    I've watched roughly 8 or 9 videos on this specific cam and you are the first one to mention a subscription.... much appreciated, and thank you for doing the review!!

    Steve, I would love to see two things.
    1- a head to head comparison of the camera systems you have reviewed.
    2- a review on how well the solar panel works for the various ring products.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 років тому +1

      I'll be working on a head to head video in the future. I'll also take a look at their solar panels too.

      Thank you. And that’s all I ask for, a little more up front transparency with the subscription cost. Other than that they are good cameras. And I do really like their app. :)

    Ring should offer a home base unit with local storage (SD/micro SD) for those who don't want to pay inflated prices for cloud storage.
    Would not be hard for them to do.
    I have a Ring Doorbell Pro and two Ring Floodlights, so I'm invested, but wished I would have waited.
    I like Eufy, but no-one has the "whole package" yet... Doorbell, long battery life, local storage, great video and audio.
    Great review.

    • @cantire1234
      @cantire1234 5 років тому

      Guessing they don't offer the local storage because they want that recurring revenue. It doesn't seem to bad with the monthly monitoring for their security product included in that protect plan if you have the Ring security alarm too

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 Рік тому

      The only problem with that is that you would then NOT be able to view timeline events outside the house, as it requires the footage to be uploaded to the cloud to be accessed whilst out and about as it's uploaded to ring's servers.
      If you had it stored locally you could only access the footage whilst on your home WiFi network, as soon as you leave and go to work, or go out socialising you wouldn't be able to access the recordings as they are stored on a device on your internal WiFi network.
      The only way to get around it would be to have a base unit that ALSO uploads it to some form of cloud, I looked at this solution as I wanted the best of both, cloud viewing but also with no cost, I considered BLINK as it has local storage option but no cloud viewing, it's one or the other. And any cloud storage option will inevitably have a fee somewhere.
      In the end we went with Ring's premium protect plan as we have a doorbell, a chime pro, and 4 spotlight cameras all with solar panels, so it was worth the £7.99 a month or £90 a year for cloud recording across all devices.

  • @thefiestaguy8831
    @thefiestaguy8831 Рік тому

    People might complain about the subscription..
    We have a ring doorbell, a chime pro, and 4 Spotlight cameras all with solar panels, we pay £7.99 a month for the premium plan or £90 a year (UK based) and personally I'd say it's great value. You can only use ONE device on the basic plan which is £2.99 a month.
    On the premium plan we're on we get 10% discount on ring devices from their site, and I believe they also extend the warranty of your devices so long as they are less than 1 or 2 years old at the time of purchasing the plan.

    Good job on the review. Some videos are scattered but yours was nice and calm and your voice was relaxing to listen to. ha. I am curious about the battery life on these things though. Are you still using it now? Have you had to recharge it? I saw mention of 2 year battery life but I am guessing that is only in very limited situations. A post on Homedepot said they got 21 days out of it. I am thinking of getting one of these and one of the solar panels

    • @David-hy7rn
      @David-hy7rn 5 років тому

      Not sure how much more transparent they could be. Their site tells you exactly what you get with the plan. And it does, in fact, extend your warranty as long as you keep the plan. I confirmed this with a Ring rep the other day.

      That's the only reason I'm watching this video. My Ring video doorbell 2 was atrocious with battery life. It uses the same battery. If I get this I will most likely get the wired version. Saves the headache of having to change it, even if it's once a month. There is also battery degradation so it will last less and less with time. But I guess you can always get the solar charger, but not sure how well that works either.

Also what’s the battery life like?

  • @jrgaln
    @jrgaln 3 роки тому

    It is a protection plan. If any of your cameras get stolen or break they replace it. I have 4 ring cameras along with their security system with keypad and sensors. I have had the service for 4 years and have had several cameras break and security components break and I just call them up and they replace it. It cost me $100 for the cloud monitoring along with professional security monitoring as well as the protection. Worth every penny. You need to edit your video to be more accurate.

    have a few questions: 1) do you think it would hold in place on a ceiling with one of the 3M velcro sticky? b/c i really don't want to drill holes into the wall. 2) i am thinking of using this as a baby monitor for my toddler's room, so i would want to use it only at night for a few hours, and i would NOT need it to be triggered by motion. 3) can I turn off the camera from my app during the day time when he's not sleeping in there? to save battery? or is it just on 24-7? THANKS!

    Hey buddy let me start off by saying I love all your videos very informative and very professional please keep up the good work
    I’m actually in the market to picking up a system for my house there are so many options out there.
    I was thinking of getting the Arlo pro two because the 4K is very expensive and still has issues I’m also considering the ring floodcam as well.

      Between the 2 i would recommend the Arlo Pro 2 because of the free 7 days of cloud storage. With Ring you're locked into a subscription plan. If you're ok with the subscription than both cameras are about equal in picture quality.

    very good video. Question: How long does battery last before having to re-charge?

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 років тому +1

      It all depends on how active the area is and what your settings are but, about 2-3 months.

    I love this camera den all the people complaining about paying a subscription need to chill its 3 dollars a month and that is nothing compared to a 10 dollar Netflix subscription

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 років тому

      I agree, $3 a month isn't bad. I think the reason most people have a problem with it is because it's not really advertised. Plus if you have multiple cameras is can add up quick.

      Im so used to adjusting the angle 180° in the app but, for the camera you physically rotate the camera on the mount.

    Great video as always Steve, can I ask, which wireless camera is best between the arlo pro 2, arlo ultra 4k and this nest cam in your opinion? Thanks in advance

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 років тому +3

      I haven't tried Nest because they don't have a wire free camera yet. Also something that turned me away from Nest is that they have continuous video recording (CVR) as opposed to Arlo that is motion based recording. CVR sounds nice until you realize that HD video is being uploaded to the cloud 24/7. A lot of Internet providers have data caps where they would slow or internet speed if you hit that cap. One camera probably wouldn't be a problem but if you have more than that it might be something to worry about. Arlo is coming out with a feature later this year that will allow you to ditch the cloud all together and just record directly to the base and still be able to view that footage over your phone. I'm really excited for that to come. If you have any more questions let me know.

    Great review - thank you. I was also frustrated at their lack of transparency around the subscription needed for recording video. The protection proud is very misleading.
    Also - as others indicated below. It would have been nice if you mentioned the battery charging frequency.
