Thank you so much for this extraordinarily useful video. On my TEF20, the diaphragm failed causing the engine to run at way too high an rpm even with the valve spring de-compressor open. Could not stop it & eventually stalled it going backwards with the transport box on the floor scraping till it hit enough soil that the engine cut out. My relief at that time was near religious. Got a new diaphragm from my parts supplier in the U K. He had sold several, but never fitted one. It then took three of us over 3 hours to get the new diaphragm on, which I am now believe was due to the rack not moving back enough. As was it was key hole surgery, screw drivers prising the new diaphragm back, the washer put on from a grease loaded screw driver, the split pin with tweezers through the vacuum port. Then the throttle was jammed and it took me another 3 hours to get the two back plate screws out, eventually using an impact wrench. At that point I quit as I could not see how to split the rear housing & came in & saw your video & I went from despair to feeling a lot better. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Im glad the video could help you. That is the reason I do them . to help people do their own small jobs. Glad it all eventually worked out for you.
Thankyou so much for making this video. I bought a TEF 20 cheap because some one messed up the pump real bad and watching this video I figured out how to put everything back in place and she runs really well now! Emma UK
Beautiful work Lance , amazing attention to detail . A few years ago I bought a TED20 and a TEF , both more or less scrap . Your videos have been a big help on getting the first one running and at it’s first rally earlier this year . Now working on the TEF , it’s bit like doing a giant 3D puzzle as a lot of the parts were missing , but with your help , and my pal Bert , who actually worked on these tractors in days gone bye , I’m getting there …… Ha ha ! Thank you Lance a excellent video, I did the same to a International B275 2 years ago and it worked fine . The difference with them was it had 2 lines to the governor housing 1 been vacuum line and 1 line to the "atmosphere".
G Day Daryl, I suppose the breather in this case would replace the second line on your B275. I have never done a B275 but the basic theory on these pumps is all the same.
Yes that is true Lance, the B275 with the inline pump had a pneumatic governor,[ as you know] but there was no throttle connection to the injector pump , the B250 were the same. The later model B275 were fitted with a DPA rotary injector pump.
Fantastic video, thanks for making it! Just got a 1953 tef 20 from my uncle. Has been sitting in an old barn for over 12 years untouched. It has a Rotary Hoes Reduction Gear built into the back end which is interesting. Don't know much about the reduction gear but can't wait to try it out. Great vid! 👍
Thank you a lot man, it worth spending time watching this, your videos are very helpful and very easy to understand. I own tea 20 with perkins engine and this has helped me a lot. Keep making this videos men, god blest you.
Hi Lance just got the injector pump diaphragm this weekend and some brass washers to refit the fuel pipe from the venturie, I hope I spelt that right, and thanks again I'll be replacing the diaphragm on my TEF this Wednesday, as it races when started, I am checking the fuel pipe to the pump for a small hole or air leak. thanks again for all the effort on this big job it was very interesting.

G'Day Lance, really enjoying your channel, have watched most of your videos. Keep up the good work. I have 3 TEF fergies and a John Deere 2130 so your videos have been very useful.
G Day John, Sounds like your shed would look a bit like mine with the grey, green and yellow inside. Glad you like the videos, thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi Bundy. Great video. Very helpful. . How common are TEF 20 in Australia? There only 120 in NewZealand. You will enjoy the TEF engine rebuild, they are not that straight forward. Who design a engine, when you got to pull out the crank shaft out the back, before you can remove the con rods.
Hi Lance I just replaced the diaphragm into my TEF today, and all thanks to your great video, and I got it started as well, but its a fecker to bleed and get diesel to the injectors, could I ask do you have a video on repair to the levers on the quadrant as mine is stuck and I cant move the lever to het the arms up or down, thanks for all your videos.

Great work! Could you do a follow up with spill timing?! one of my cylinders is not firing and I wanted to check that, before diving in to the pump.....
John Wells - Lance gives a clue at around 41 minutes about the spill timing for individual cylinders and how it can be adjusted - 6° for a full turn of the hex nut, and 1° if you just turn it one flat. Not fully explained of course - as he said at the beginning it was about a general overhaul without going too deep into the technicalities, but you might find there’s enough detail to get you started if you want to check and adjust the spill point for individual cylinders. Bloody good video - so much detail packed into it and the finished pump looks a treat. Very satisfying watching you tap those plugs into place at the end!
Greeting from the States. Great video! I notice that your governor had a problem mine has, that is, the throttle linkage shaft was very loose. You said that you would rebush the housing, but didn't cover it in the video. How did that go? I'm going to need to do the same thing.
G Day Michael, I still have not done that as Im not up restoring the TEF20 just yet. Everything else gets in the way. I do machine a lot of carb butterfly shafts though so I dont imagine it would be a problem.
excellent film. one question … i watched Cherry top Farmstays little film ferguson tef20 diesel injectors and he stated you fill that oil cavity to the top with oil , and its not mixed with diesel as a lubricant. Im a bit confused with this bit. you cover it (at time 1hr 20min in. )the end of your film and say fill with oil to the drain plug and it gets mixed with diesel , Its the only bit im confused about.
Due to the design of the pump the oil in the sump of the pump will dilute over time with the diesel that has leaked past the elements. That is just how it is, you start with clean oil and end up over time with runny oil.
Great video as usual. I am just about to sort my tef pump.Do you have to spill time the pump again after the rebuild if it has come off a working tractor.
Hi Bundy, greetings from Ireland. I have a similar pump on my TEF20 and have air in the injection pump. Diesel is draining down into oil sump. Injector spray pattern is good. Any idea where I need to look for this leak. The pump reservoir will have air in it which I bleed before I start. Engine is constantly hunting when running. Any ideas where I need to look.
Hi I am giving trouble with my TEF20 revving up and down. I appear to have air in two injectors when I crack them open. 2st two from steering wheel side. The appears to be a slight bit of air in the pump when I open the bleed screws also. The other two injectors are clear. I got the pump checked two weeks ago, new diesel, e.t c. Any ideas where I should be checking? I replaced pipe from filter to pump also.
That would be great if you can fit that in !! I've just rebuilt the engine with pistons and liners and need to rebush the pump throttle lever (like yours) and do the spill timing.
Those screws for the filters might even be 1/4" Whitworth or 5/16" BSF. If so they have a grip across flats of 13,34 mm. I have noticed that some of the bolt heads on my FE35 is Whitworth and the only spanner that fits is the adjustable one. The screw at the bottom of the fuel filter and also on the starter engine are Whitworth. We can find the sizes here: www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/psc/spanner_jaw.html But we can't easily find any spanner nowadays.
The kit and diaphragm total would have been around $160 but I had to import the kit from England. The fuel dose is set with the clamp screws that you can loosen the element and adjust it on the rack. I left these in the same position just to be sure.
I've a massey ferguson 20 that won't rev all the way up i have tried rev it off the pump by pushing the bar all the way but still no luck.what do I need to adjust for it to rev thanks
G'day lance... I also have a lot of play in the shaft controlling the diaphragm. Unfortunately I had to drill the housing fixing screws out, as they were seized solid. Inside was full of rusty water and the 'plunger' (at 14:30) was seized solid too. Only way was to bore it out on the lathe, as it resisted heating and 'plusGas' release fluid......amazing as the tractor (and throttle) was working ! I've made a replacement but are you sure its the throttle control ....and not the 'stop' lever?
G Day Duncan, About all you can do is remove the injector lines and turn the engine over and check they all look the same with regard to fuel squirt and that the stop is working etc. Pull the side cover off and check for oil and rust etc.
Hallo. Greetings from Sout Africa. The videos are great and realy helpfull. Well done. Need info on the sizes of oil seal on outer drive shaft or half shaft. Thank you very much.
Hi Lance. Firstly just to say thanks for all your videos which have been a great help on numerous occasions. I have a '55 TEF that I use on our 6.5 acre plot in Herefordshire in UK which constantly needs large or small amounts of attention. The cold start button on the injector pump seems reluctant to stay in and I wondered if you knew what holds it in and then releases it and is there something I could do short of stripping the pump as per your fine video? Cheers Greg
Thank you for making an informative video. I learned a lot from it. At around the 5 minute mark, you open the back plate and take out the fuel filters. Du you have the part number for the filters ? I am having a hard time finding them.
Hi. Mate , received the diaphragm and replaced it also freed up the plunger , throttle is now working but the engin is hunting in all rev ranges What is my next thing to look at …….thanks
@BundyBearsShed thank you for your response i bought the tef20 and previous owner iserted a 20mm Welsh plug where the plunger needs to be so the guy told me its a conversion 9n the pump so that it could run
Great video as usual lance, all i need to do now is find a tef20 to practice on 😆. You have made a daunting task look quite doable for someone with a small bit of patience & diy knowhow. Makes me wonder how many pumps will be sitting in the living room next to the computer while they gets a refurb. cheers, Derek
Thanks Derek, I often wonder how many pumps are chucked out and the tractor wrecked as people don't want the expensive charge from the big diesel shops. Shame really. we have spent over $1200 on them over here for customers as the big shops want to replace every thing in them.
Hi great video just wondering when you bleed the oil out of bottom of injector pump of Ferguson 20 diesel because diesel mixes with it when you put some new oil in what type of oil do you use .Thanks Kevin.
Thanks for the great video Lance! I have just got a tef20 and had an issue with the injector. Found a hole in the diaphragm. Plan to go over the whole injector now after watching this video. i have seen a leak from the back cover as well. What grade of oil where you using. Cheers
At this point i'm afraid I'm going to have to free up my injector pump, my DP3 runs good and slow to start but when it heats up it starts over revving a lot. The biggest problem is that I don't have nice conditions like yours to work in, and I'm a big old cluts so I was avoiding any thing to do with the injecshon pump itself.
@@BundyBearsShed oh, sory, I must have mis heard I thought that it looked like a vacume controlled pump and that you sed that it had a diafram, but I heard you call what looked like a stoper to me the throttle, I think.
I'been analysing sum more of my situation and I'm now quite sure that that the diafram is my main problem. Also the pump is an old in-line CAV pump, so chance of finding parts for it would be very difficult.
Great video mate, wish I had watched it before I dropped the cam followers out and mixed them up! Hopefully they will be near enough and my TED20 will forgive me when she eventually fires again.
G’day mate, first off fantastic video, I’ve been looking for something like this for ages, I have the same pump on my TEF with roughly the same problem, so this video has helped a hell of a lot, I don’t suppose you could tell me the place in England you got the kit for the pump from, or by any chance you got a couple of extra kits to sell through your business? Any help would be much appreciated, and again fantastic video, glad I stumbled across it so now I’m following the other ones you are doing on your tractor.
Hi Lance nice rebuild of this in line pump if a a/f spanner does not fit try Whitworth on this old English stuff, could you share with us contact details of the company in the uk that provided the gasket kit.
Yeah well it was either him or his oriental mate sumkunt. Hard to tell sometimes. Last time i boobytrapped the fridge to catch them at it the apprentice got in the way and didn't i cop an earful from his mum about that! Ah, shenanigans!
I’m going to do this. Mine has old diesel in it which has made it really dirty and it doesn’t pump anymore, diesel reaches this injector but not the cylinders. My plan is to paint it when I have it off, if I want to replace the text signs, the small one, are they screwed or how are they fastened. It doesn’t look like screws, perhaps you can’t get them off?
I have to say that your film has helped me 100 percent in getting my injectors free. They sat for ten years and were all siezed up. Now they are perfect. Thanks again.

Thanks Duncan, Glad you got something from it.
Looks good Lance. I believe it will work just fine.
Thanks Shain, Yes I'm pretty sure it will go alright too.
Great video, my maximum fuel button won't keep in do you have any tips on how to adjust the screw or ideas why it won't stay in? Thanks matt
Not really just turn it to a new spot might help.
@@BundyBearsShed turn the screw inside the cover? Thanks
Can I remove the Coldstart assembly off the pump to investigate whilst still on the tractor thanks matt
Check the diaphragm on the governor and the small orifice on the inlet manifold that goes across to the diaphragm
Great information much respect Ireland 🇮🇪.
Much appreciated
Sorry I'm not use to English, how do you put in place the 3 others pieces that needed a measurement ? the first needed 3.0
Im not sure I ubderstand this.
Hi was looking to know how to set the pump timing on a tef 20 ferguson.
G Day Kate, Im sorry but I havnt got to that on the TEF yet.
We can find the sizes here: www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/psc/spanner_jaw.html
But we can't easily find any spanner nowadays.
Yes I suppose it could be Whitworth, I would have a spanner but it is not often used now a days. The little shifting spanner fits well lol.
Hey Bundy, how did you get the throttle shaft out of the end cap to bush it?
Cant be sure now, Roll pin?
well done . How much does it cost to repair this pump? How to set the fuel dose in this pump?
The kit and diaphragm total would have been around $160 but I had to import the kit from England. The fuel dose is set with the clamp screws that you can loosen the element and adjust it on the rack. I left these in the same position just to be sure.
I've a massey ferguson 20 that won't rev all the way up i have tried rev it off the pump by pushing the bar all the way but still no luck.what do I need to adjust for it to rev thanks
Try moving the rack manually, if not you may just have a fuel blockage
Do you have a video about re fitting this pump and checking the timing?
No not yet but I do have to do a full restore on that tractor so I will cover it then,
G'day lance...
Yes probably stop lever as the diaphram will adjust speed.
Excellent viewing Lance , thanks very much
Thanks Dave, I hope you got something from it.
Hats off my friend !Just wondering how to check my Gardner 6LX pump (on engine). Any advice....?
G Day Duncan, About all you can do is remove the injector lines and turn the engine over and check they all look the same with regard to fuel squirt and that the stop is working etc. Pull the side cover off and check for oil and rust etc.
On the Gardner 6lx pump you have priming levers on each injector element that you can operate to see if the pump is operating the injectors.
Hallo. Greetings from Sout Africa. The videos are great and realy helpfull. Well done. Need info on the sizes of oil seal on outer drive shaft or half shaft. Thank you very much.
Not sure as I usually just buy the kit as the collar will need replacing as well.
Perfect video. Where can I buy new parts for a tef20 injector pump?
In Australia we do a seal kit only.
@@BundyBearsShed I found a diaphragm on eBay so I'll start there. Cheers.
Are there any overseas websites were I may get parts? Cheers.
Cheers Greg
G Day Greg, I would just check for corrosion on the front little housing where it is and free that up a bit.
Thank you for making an informative video. I learned a lot from it. At around the 5 minute mark, you open the back plate and take out the fuel filters. Du you have the part number for the filters ? I am having a hard time finding them.
G day Tom, I bought a complete pump kit from Agriline.
Quality video just the type of video i was looking for
Glad you liked it , hope it helps you.
great video lance i am looking for input filters and gaskets on the sparex website cannot find them may be u can help with ref nombers
G Day Jim, I dont think you will find them there. I had to look at Agriline for my parts, they do a full kit.
thanks lance found the kit on agriline
Hi. Mate , received the diaphragm and replaced it also freed up the plunger , throttle is now working but the engin is hunting in all rev ranges
What is my next thing to look at …….thanks
The orifice in the inlet manifold would be worth a look.
Hi can you help me with dimensions on the throttle plunger please
Look in the workshop manual it may have it there, I dont have a pump available to play with at present.
Engine oil
Thanks for the great video Lance! I have just got a tef20 and had an issue with the injector. Found a hole in the diaphragm. Plan to go over the whole injector now after watching this video. i have seen a leak from the back cover as well. What grade of oil where you using. Cheers
Macwhirter Locomotive Company I was just using engine oil so if the front seal leaks I’m not mixing oils in the engine
Bundy Bears Shed Thanks. Makes perfect sense. Luke
Hi mate was wondering why my TEF 20 When started runs at full revs , when I put the throttle up or down it makes no difference …….thanks
Either a sticky rack in the pump, hole in the diaphragm or a gummred up orifice in the inlet manifold.
Another problem is my one has vacume control from tha air inlet.
This one is vacuum governed as well, just go slow and steady.
@@wmffgeorge1589 you may well be correct I do miss speak at times and not pick it up in the editing.
Great video mate, wish I had watched it before I dropped the cam followers out and mixed them up! Hopefully they will be near enough and my TED20 will forgive me when she eventually fires again.
I hope so too lol.
Have you any videos on te20 diesal timing
No I have one to restore but I have not got it into the shed yet/
@@BundyBearsShed can u tell me or send me a diagram on the timing of u have it
hi just wondering how do you refill it with oil
I filled it up through the side cover if I remember correctly.
Awesome work here, Lance. An epic!
Thanks Sam.
I got my kit from Agriline in the UK, www.agrilineproducts.com/parts/engine/fuel-injection-pump-gasket-repair-kit.html.
Hi Lance nice rebuild of this in line pump if a a/f spanner does not fit try Whitworth on this old English stuff, could you share with us contact details of the company in the uk that provided the gasket kit.
The kit came from Agriline and it is a good kit in my opinion.
Please use a small torch to augment ambient light
Great video, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Very encouraging video. Well Done!
Thank you!
Great video Lance :)
Regarding the cold-start feature on the pump, do you know if the pump from the A3.152 engine (35x) also has such a feature?
Karsten Jorgensen no theres cold start on them engines
No they don't, with the rotary pump they are a very different set up.
great stuff. must be time for smoko!
Shit yeah, did ya make any scones or pikelets?
i did but old syd out the back got to them
the bastard
Yeah well it was either him or his oriental mate sumkunt. Hard to tell sometimes. Last time i boobytrapped the fridge to catch them at it the apprentice got in the way and didn't i cop an earful from his mum about that! Ah, shenanigans!
Ha Ha
Excellent job ❤
Thank you! 😊
G Day Ulf, I think from memory they are small rivets
thank you Lance, relay enjoyed this video
Thanks Michael, Glad you got ssomething from it.
Have leant much with this
Thanks.
thank you Lance.
My pleasure!
Brilliant I learned a lot
Thats great.
Very good video, thanks Lance. Obviously from your youtube name youre up in Bundy?

Thankyou.
Not cheats cheares sorry mate my phone go to predict I've text sometime

Dommage que c'est pas en Français
I dont know how to do that.
