My Manticore should be here this week. Bought my DFX in 06 and not been out digging since 16. Should be interesting getting back out. I'm keeping the DFX as I have 4 coils for it. Those Manticore coils seem like hens teeth.
Good luck on the Manticore. I think you are going to like it but put the time and dedication to it. Most people don't give it enough time to learn it properly. You need at least 100 hours or more to master the Beast.
@@MentalMetal I'll be retiring in 284 working days ..cant wait! Should give me time. You ever use the DFX? Wonder the comparisons. Or day and night difference. Mine will be here tomorrow. Tks!
Scott, your enthusiasm for the manticore, and the 2-D screen has changed considerably since those videos you made, when you first tried the machine out! I have found that with the manticore, 2-D screen, when it shows that circle on the line, it is very reliable, but I have found many coins, and rings that showed bizarre 2-D screens that I almost decided to pass on, but curiosity made me dig. Just like the Deus 2, X/Y Screen, There are times when it’s reliable, and times when you just have to ignore it, and rely on the tone and the number. I have put my name on lists with several metal detecting stores for the manticore, 8 inch elliptical coil, and I’m looking forward to using it.
My enthusiasm got better? or worse? LOL. In the beginning I found the 2D screen to be very fascinating, I mean I dug 2 nails and a coin out of the same hole and it was telling me that there were 3 targets there! That was cool and while I don't spend a lot of time looking at it now, I believe it still has its purpose but you really have to listen to the tones and with the update (ferrous indications/red numbers and stabilzer) the Manticore is a much better machine and right up there in my opinion. I just recorded a hunt today where I dug every signal (good or bad) and predicted with almost 100% certainty what a diggable target was over a nail or ferrous target. People who don't put the time into their machines will never understand this but you have to put the hours into a machine in order to learn what it is telling you. Right now, I'm really enjoying the Manticore even more so then when it first came out. Its my first machine for the beach and rivers now. I still prefer my D2 for relics but coin shooting, its dead even now with the D2.
Scott, the 2D screen does help on figuring out if you should dig or not. When I first started using the manticore I didn’t use it much. I have a test garden (after watching your videos) where I have coins and square nails in the same hole. It does mess up the screen but if you get the right angle it will show on the target line without numbers in red. Mostly I’m like you and go by the sound mainly. I dig a lot less trash with manticore versus nox 800. I found a cartwheel penny the other day and both screen and sound wasn’t great. But at one angle both were good so I dug it. It had multiple square nails in hole with it. It was an awesome pull and first British coin for me! The update has really helped me with square nails. I almost always know when it’s a nail but still talk myself into digging it just in case. Lol
Yep I have the same problem of convincing myself not to dig something. LOL I wish folks would take another look at the Manticore. There are some features in there to explore.

@@MentalMetal have you noticed that in ATHC you have more iron falsing than in ATG? Or if you have sensitivity above 27 you have more? Or after you pin point then go back over target it stops falsing. I keep my stabilizer at 3 but filter off. That seems to help also
Yep-the 2D screen tends to confuse… If it’s a good tone, numbers good, solid, tight target, you really don’t need the screen. I do like my Manticore so far but I wouldn’t say it’s that much better than my old 800 with the coiltek coil!
I run mine a little lower than stock so I expect to pick up more but I pretty sure I was saying those were iffy signals but I dug them anyway to just show what it actually was. I would recommend running a stabilser of 3 to make it even more obvious that there is something ferrous under the coil. Once you tweak that machine, it really begins to show its value.
@Kevinscott4747 I've been through so many pairs of Cabelas boots and I always crack the sole, I was told to try a pair of Irish Setters and I've never looked back. 100% love them. Here is the pair I have but you can get them insulated as well. amzn.to/3virFED
I'd like to see that coil at work in the turnip field and the rattlesnake den area....you blew #1 Fanboy off last year....maybe you'll like me again this year....😢
You dug everything out of that field.. and I didn't blow you off. I do believe there is a vide of us last year. Stop thinking of your Fans Only page. :-)
@MentalMetal you never find everything, I got a "1850 bank of upper Canada " penny or half penny last year, Indian along with many other period relics.....was only in there once or twice with my #1 Fan Boy Sentsitive FT Relic Program....many trips still needed....and I'm 98% you hated me last year ..no 2023 vids of #1 FB
Wow you are right, I feel like that last hike with out headphones down tunnel hill happen last year. Damn man, we'll do better in 2024. I'll be up there every 8 weeks starting in April. I'll be up weekend of Feb 15 but it will probably be frozen.
Just a quick note! A nickel is not a clad coin. It is most commonly nickel and copper metals mixed together instead of placed in layers like a clad. Enjoy all your videos...
LOL I think if you really know how to use it (many don't and won't put in the time to learn it) then, I think you might have a different opinion. But hey that's my opinion. Do you actually own one?
So true…the learning curve on the Manticore is definitely steeper than with most machines, but man is it ever descriptive when you begin to dial it in! I’m coming upon a year with mine, and honestly just now beginning to start to feel comfortable with it. I still dig a few nails, but I’m very seldom truly fooled by them, just decide to dig them as if they’re an iffy signal. Thank you for your content and for not giving up on the Manticore.

Excellent vid. Thanks for explanation on machine, program your using and hunt.Nice finds.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video as always Scott. Quick tips rock.
Thanks 👍

Enjoyed the video. Ice storm here in Virginia. I will try tomorrow with the M8.
Good luck!
Got mine from fort Bedford great people awesome service
Yes they are, thanks for giving them your business.

I use the equinox 800. Tempted by the Manticore but more expensive over here in England than you can get it at. Grrr!
Its a great machine if you put the time into learning it. Most of the people bashing it don't know how to use it.
Digging all the nails made me winder where you were running your ferrous limits?

Just wondering what brand boots you’re wearing and are they warm

How do you know if it’s picking up iron when the numbers keep fluctuating?? Yes I’m a newbie lol
Iron has a distinct sound. You will know especially if you put the machine in all metal mode.
