Here comes Moza with their entry level DD wheelbase featuring all metal construction. That alone will blow you away. Of course, I had my R5 for 2 weeks and exchanged for the R9. Micro Center is their retailer. Had the R9 for 2 years and got myself a Simucube 2 Sport and mounted on a 80/20 profile rig.
I like how you're quite bluntly honest (particularly about the negatives) about Moza R5 review despite receiving it for free. The Fanatec's availability here is very limited, so my choices are only Moza or Cammus. If CSL DD Bundle is available here at fair price, then I would choose it over Moza R5 because it possesses a big advantage which both Moza and Cammus C5 do not have: The CSL DD Bundle's force feedback can be buffed up to 8Nm with a boost kit while the other two counterparts need an entirely new wheelbase for stronger FFB. I think a Moza R5 bundle without the pedals would be a great option or just put loadcells in the bundle. The Alienmods for SR-P Lite pedals is a popular mod, people say that that mod gives the pedals proper loadcell modifications. But after trying both T300 RS GT Edition and Moza R5 once, I can say is skip the Logitech G923, Thrustmaster T300 RS and even the Moza R3 and go straight to Moza R5 or CSL DD Bundle when you can. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're a competitive sim racer, more expensive gears can save you more money while trying to cut costs can make you spend more money in the long run because the higher quality your sim race gear is, the less you need to upgrade. But this doesn't mean we should disregard our sim racing budget.
Thanks for your feedback mate! Yes the r5 is a great little wheelbase but there’s definitely some changes that MOZA could make to make it a completely solid experience. I definitely agree with you on skipping the Logitech/thrustmaster non-DD wheels as they are just old and outdated technology which is still heavily overpriced for what it is. In terms of better gear being better in the long run, I think this depends. There are people on iRacing with 7k irating that use Logitech gear driven wheelbases. I think as long as you become used to your equipment then you can become competitive. I honestly think 5nm is more than enough to let you push the car or its limit this days. First time DD wannabe buyer here watching lots of YT videos. From what I can see it is bit of a shame that if you buy the R5 bundle your upgrade options are very limited as far as I understand a) if you wanted a bigger wheel you will have issues in lower fidelity and potential heat issues so you have to go to the R9 or higher, b) the peddals can only be ‘upgraded’ via a mod otherwise you have to buy a whole new pedal set. If you instead buy something like an R9 bundle and the CSP pedals you have proper pedals and now you can also more easily buy different wheels without having to worry.
Indeed, most are 2 pedal sets with a clutch as a possible add-on for more money. even when buying pedals separate you will sometimes seen this so always check whats listed in the description and watch a unboxing here and there.
Bought the R5 bundle brand new on 27 July 2024, took it back on the 12 August 2024 (2 weeks and 2 days) as it stopped working. Waiting for technical department of the place I bought it from to get back in touch with me. I'm praying that I haven't just bought a 509 euro lemon. Going to hold off adding to the MOZA ecosystem for now. In the meantime, I'm back on my decade old G27.

Hi kiwi yes when using the brake performance kit on my racing stand it was fine. If you just have the pedals on the floor though, I think you’ll need to at least have them pushed up against the wall. They make the brake noticeably firmer
I just screwed it to my floor aye. i have carpet over a wood floor tho so this option is probably a no go if you have bare wood or carpet over concrete
i heard that moza r5 and r9 have overheat issues when they work on 80-100% ffb, and the wheel reduce the ffb to save the wheel, that basically mean if i buy R5 i wont get constant 5nm for longer drive...am not fanatec guy but the only reason why would i buy it is ps5, however i have a "older" pc and a ps5, so am btw 2 fire, buy moza (with H shifter) and stay on pc , or buy buy fanatec gt dd and play on ps5 (with no H shifter)....in the and am not pro player, playing almost everything with wheel Ets/Ats,Farming Sim,AC,ACC, mud/snow runner,Beam NG, drifting,carx....any advice?
I am doing long term review of this wheel so we will find out if the overheating issue happens. For me during the testing so far it’s enough happened, the wheelbase is only warm but not hot. If you are just wanting to do drifting etc and not be competitive then this wheelbase will be fine for you. I can’t comment on CSL DD cos I’ve never used it before. I’ll keep an eye out to see if this overheat issue you mentioned happens👍
Just some more long term info if you or anyone else wants... I've had my R5 for about 18 months now, zero issues. I have the R5 at 100% in pithouse and in ACC at 85-90%. I've had no issues of overheating during an 8hr race. It gets warm as it was probably designed as a passive heatsink, but never overheat and loss of force feedback. I have my eq settings flat at 100% and no major clipping of the signal, maybe a quick flash of red on the most loaded up corner of the track.

They offer two faceplate mods for this particular rim. One turns it into F1 style wheel and the other one is a larger and completely round 12 inch wheel. They are also cheaper to get than buying a whole new wheel.
Why do a video about it if it was launched so long ago and there are already so many video reviews? Honest question, did something change? Is this a V3 or something?

There are plenty of people out there who may not be caught up on all the sim racing gear that’s available on the market, or they may only be particular UA-camrs that they watch and rely on for advice about this stuff. Thanks, makes sense. It would be great if you get the r3 to do a comparison between the 2 as I have never seen anyone do it, and since the r3 is actually 4nm, it would be very interesting for people who are casual but want the real feel. I have plenty of friends confused about the r3 vs r5 choice.

Personally I think 5 nM is as low as you should go. If console capability is an important factor I’m sure MOZA will end up releasing a higher nM console wheel in the future, personally I would skip the r3 and wait though.

Indeed, most are 2 pedal sets with a clutch as a possible add-on for more money. even when buying pedals separate you will sometimes seen this so always check whats listed in the description and watch a unboxing here and there.

you can use this with the PS5 if you get the Reso1ution 2 adaptor, correct?
That’s a third party product I believe yeah? I would ask Reso1ution directly to confirm if it will work just or be safe 👍
