You can take the battery out without removing the taptic engine.
That could lead to broken pull tabs and forcing you to pry the battery out making easier the break of cables going under the battery, and they are so fragile.
You can, its just more complicated.

Nice. Seems like quite a surgery with sophisticated methods & tools, compared to the battery replacement I did back in 2014 of my iPhone 4S with just a screwdriver and a battery purchased on eBay. We have come a long way since then. Thanks for the video.
I did that and also replace a screen three times because my parts were defective. And it was easier to take apart the whole phone than changing just the battery in an XR!
I changed the iPhone 6 screen many times, it was ultra easy not like now
he also removed the speaker and Taptic engine which you don't really have to do, and if you screw up the pull tabs you just squirt some alcohol under. Home button iPhones are harder

Exactly, my phone stopped working but I can hear a rattle on the inside (probably the battery connector) and figured I'd just open the phone and plug it back in. Nope, got to have 3 one of a kind bits made specifically for this phone. $20 for each bit. Not to mention the $30 sealers and more overpriced junk. Had it for a whole 2 years before I have to spend another $1000 so I can have the same problems in another 2 years.

at that point bruh just buy a new phone that already will come with a better battery anyway. Like an iPhone 11 from apple or something, or even a XR although it's not great value anymore at 500. The XR right now imo is worth depending on the storage I guess in the 400s.

Changed a lot of xr battery's but never removed the taptic to do so....
almost have to. the godamn pull tabs always break!
You can break pulltabs if you don't do it because you can't pull adhesive parallel to the battery
@@absolutely1337 you can heat up the bottom of the phone to soften the adhesive and then pull the battery our
@@mohammed.baig. I have literaly done that before yes. and have used fishing line to go up under the battery. work back and forth to remove. works great!

Can you tell me, where we can find apple internal technical guides for repairing iPhone?
you dont have to take it all apart.. ive done hundreds of these.. leave the screen connectors on! just remove the 3 tri screws to access the battery, swap battery with new, replace the 3 screws, put 2 screws that hold screen on done done!
Honestly that is bad practice..will be worse for amateur

I don't see the point of putting those adhesive strips on the back of the battery , once the case is closed that battery is not going to move even a little bit

The XR battery kit bought by Ifixit doesnt come with a standoff bit or a flathead to remove that last 2 screws. Why not add it into the kit? Now i have to purchase the bit for another £10 and wait for a few more days.

well i was going super slow and with not much presure, and the thing came of from the bottom part (where you put the flex cable in). What do i need to do now.. :(? Can i buy that piece new? Or what else can i do? I am talking about 7:15 in the video

I have Apple Watch Series 3
Today I experienced with a big problem.
The watch turned off and when pressing the side button its not turning on, even apple logo is not showing up.
When put to charge, apple logo appears then goes away then comes back and goes away again and this keeps on repeating until I remove from charging
I have no idea what to do, tried resetting/hard reset the watch by pressing power button and digital crown together for 10-15 seconds
Still no apple logo shows up
I don’t know what to do! Tried contacting apple, they say if its hardware problem I will have to replace the whole watch because apple watches are unrepairable.
Please let me know if you have a solution, I am in real need for help. Thank you in advance!

Yea, I’ve had my iPhone for about 3 years and it’s getting to that point where I need to change the battery. I absolutely love iPhone, but on my Samsung I had to take the case off, take the back off, take the battery out, put a new one in, pop the back on and done.

I just replaced my iphone xr battery at some local store he literally scratched the frame with his screwdriver and i hope he didn't lose any screws that holds everything inside

I’m 13 and I don’t remove the screen or the Taptic Engine and if the pull tab breaks then I use tweezers to get them again

Guys, you forgot to mention, that the speaker is glued in with a faom sealant as well. It’s nice that you remind us to glue the screen back in place, but in order for the device to have a chance of being tightly sealed again, you would also need a new sticky foam gasket for the speaker.

i got my battery replaced on my iphone xr, but it says 0% remaining and it doesn’t show it charging
So no mention of the battery heath not working after???

6:15 Also iFixit: *presses down on battery while removing adhesive strips*
That’s for the last strip so the battery dosen’t fall out.

Isn't there a software thing that prevents you from checking your battery health afterward?
Apple paired the battery to the phone , so once it doesn’t detect that battery you’ll get the error... but it doesn’t affect anything

Connecting the battery BEFORE the screen is a BIG MISTAKE. It could bring the phone in a bootloop state. You can just place the battery in his bay and allign the connector without attaching it

How to check battery cycles on android?
Now at step 741 be extremely careful and remove the 4,362 polyangonal screws that hold the filter swan screen on and then pop off the seven 3 way octagonal 14 pin ribbon cable swivel heads. step 742 place the smudgepuffer against the heating slodger and pull ever so gently so as to not undo the frozen hinge gap point swagger node pin assembly. Keep in mind this will have to be replaced exactly the same way or a reverse image will be not unavailable. Then simply do the 742 steps in reverse and you will end up with one extra screw. Throw it in the junk drawer and use your iPhone XR as a paper weight.

Replacing the adhesive as shown in the video, it should have the same water resistant properties. Without replacing the adhesive, there's no reason to count on it having good water resistant properties.
Yes, but ONLY if you replace BOTH the screen adhesive AND the foam speaker adhesive.

So $40 for the battery replacement, $60 if you break the screen. I was ready to order the battery kit until I watched this, plus when your done the battery health no longer works. just scheduled an appointment for the alternative method: $89 to have my local Apple store replace the battery.
Just use a program like imazing to get all the battery stats…

The adhesive you can easily remove with isopropyl alcohol.
Would I need to take my screen protector off?
not to replace the battery no, just opening may be a bit trickier as the isclack cant be used as it would just pull the protector from screen. just a thin pry tool and the picks to lift screen and your all good.
why do you remove the whole screen?
I guess it's just easier to work with that way, otherwise you risk accidentally damaging it

you cannot see battery stat because the phone now knows you changed the battery.
So that means you should never update your OS, they can stop the health app, they can stop anything with a patch.
Thankfully when they remove the taiwan flag for 'no reason' in hong kong I stopped updating my phone

Ifixit says iPhone prioritize battery replacement and gives this phone a 6/10 for repairability. Sure. Rather change the timing belt in my car. There is no such thing as a repairable cell phone anymore. 5s was the last consumer friendly phone.

This method will take you 45 minutes, all you need to do is pop a nice thin metal pick at the bottom right corner. Pop up the display but still have some care when opening. This isn’t the strong adhesive like on the backs of Samsung’s.
What I do is heat the phone, take a plastic pick to not break the display and put the pick in the top left of the display because there is a groove to put a pick there

I know Apple is anti-repair, but I am glad that Apple didn't patent their pentalobe screwdrivers or bits so that way no one can manufacture them.
It doesn't matter, you will always have people that manufacture them especially those in China.
If Apple is “anti-repair” then why iPhones get better iFixit scores than most of the other phones?
Samsungs, for example, are much more difficult to repair.
@@veke1372 so because another company harder, Apple is not anti repair? Apple gives you a warning on XR and above if you changed your battery or screen on 11 and above.

@@veke1372 I think Samsung's are easier to repair than apples. It's really easy to replace the back glass on a Samsung compared to an apple. Also Apple phones have a lot of different screw types and brackets.
I think I just need to let Apple do this one....
Just get the Apple one, no mess opening, no BS, pay to get serviced
Better to pay 65$ to do it including battery and labor , any person who will try will loose screws and forget how to reinstall back look like king process
