I've been obsessed with this game the past few months and your channel has been a great resource for learning the ins and outs of Terra. Love the videos man, your analysis is always on point! Thanks for the content :-)
I totally agree. I've not played Merchants of the Seas, but I'm really into Fire and Ice. They do have the Lakes map and the mini expansion which wasn't an option when TM first came out on BGA. I played games at that time where you had to rush to found your final town for fear of missing out on a town tile altogether.
Another excellent video. Your experience definitely shone through here. Your economy won you the game, along with good strategic play. There were a few occasions where your opponents built a second or third temple rather than a second TP to boost coin and power income. It always feels good when you have 10-15 coins on turn 6 and take the 7 coin power action because you are not sure if that is enough. Lots of teeth gnashing from your fellow players.
@@onlytm981 I really like the witches, but was surprised how high your score was given how messy the game looked at the end. What's your average score per game?
You played the opening very well, I wouldn't have thought to get the 6C tile, and instead would have taken +1 SHIP/3PW. It was smart of you to realize that you'll get enough leech to afford a shipping upgrade and a dig anyway. I also would have rushed to get a 3rd town in the final round, but I think upgrading digs and going for network was optimal there. I do have one question, though: What was your logic for building the bridge in round 4? I thought your original plan (3w dig to make the city) would have been a better move. It would have made it so at most 1 of the cultists and darklings could get a city in that area, and you could save your power to use as coins and/or for another dig in a later round.
Good point! I think I was concerned about getting two TPs out as the following round was a TE round. Looking back I would agree that the 3w dig was better - following that with a TP in the east where I had a neighbour or perhaps passing to ensure the coin power action. I was fortunate that in the following round the cultists didn't take the coins because they were holding their power to use for digs. (That cultist town was very expensive for them costing two double digs and a single dig which prevented them from challenging for the network.) One mental note I did take from the game having played a lot of Fire and Ice recently and only coming back to this since I started uploading again is how fast the Water 1 favour tiles get taken. I feel I could hone my favour tile strategy a little more with this faction. This game may have been slightly more competitive with regard to favour tiles as with no bon 8, fakirs, darlings and cultists were building TEs/SAs like crazy. This, however, worked to my advantage somewhat as their coin economies were never developed and too many TPs in the final round, whilst nice, is a distraction from the more important network points.
Are you live streaming these matches here on the youtube channel or on another source? Will try and catch the next live stream if you are planning on doing one.
I played the game live and recorded it with Zoom in this case. I thought about a live stream, but if were to do too many, I’d end up with opponents watching the stream whilst playing against me. Another option is the premiere feature on UA-cam where I can have a delayed stream with a chat window. I might do that next time.
@@onlytm981 The BGA community seems pretty good outside of a few players. I doubt you would get any stream snipers. But obviously I understand that sentiment as you never know with people.
It's another feature of Terra Mystica for choosing a faction. It's optional to have this auction in the game, but I feel it makes things fairer because you always have a chance of getting the faction you want. You may just have to sacrifice a few victory point to get it. No more complaining that Darklings and Engineers have been chosen before you :)
I declined that power because myself (Witches) and the Fakirs were both choosing whether to receive power from the Cultists. The Cultists' special ability is if a faction receives power from them, they can move up one step in any cult. In this case, I decided I didn't need the power, waited to see whether the Fakirs would decline, when they did I also declined the power to deny the Cultists getting too much of an advantage in the cults.

I'm afraid I haven't found the cure for this obsession! lol Glad you enjoy the content.
I'd love for BGA to get the expansions. Such a pity, only being able to play the base game there; the new expansion is amazing...

Always love your content man. Watching you plan out a bunch of possible moves for your opponents is very helpful.
Cheers! I enjoyed playing this game. Witches tend to be a bit hit and miss for me so I was pleased about this game.

I tend to consider anything over 140 as good unless it’s a particularly scrappy game.
