    It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who gets a bit frustrated with their service dog. He's not a bad dog, he just likes to test the boundaries sometimes, and that's hard when I'm already anxious or irritable.
    But I tell myself neither of us are perfect, often I get him to do deep pressure too, and we move on.

      Yeah. It is important to remember that my mood affects her mood so we need to help each other out.

    What was the play you cast yourself in and how did it go?

    • @OakCroftFilms

      It is called "Aut Is Love". It went very well, sold out all three nights. It was also recorded so when the people send it to me I'll put it on UA-cam.

    I'm glad you were able to stop the meltdown, Nathan, but sitting on the floor of a public bathroom...

    Ahh the famous mirroring 😁 This happened to me when I was on vacation with my family and then my SD refused everything except going to a quiet spot for me to calm down and only later I realized he was busy trying to prevent me from having a meltdown and I was SO PROUD of him for doing that! He was really the most amazing little dog ever! 🐶❤️
    Thank you for this nice new video Nathan! And good job Blake! 🐾💪🏼

    I have a question. So.. I feel like I need a service dog sooner or later. I get overwhelmed easily and typically wind up accidentally hurting myself and breaking stuff in my meltdowns, and I feel having someone with me at all times when I'm out would help loads. (Even now, I don't feel comfortable going out of the house by myself, but when I'm walking my dogs it's a little easier to handle, and they're anything But trained lol)
    However, I'm not entirely sure if a SD would be good for me, or if I would be good for it. One of the sounds that sets me off is.. dogs whining. For some reason I've always reacted negatively to it, and I'm worried if a SD would do more harm than good in that case. And another problem with me getting a SD is, when I do have my meltdowns, it's about as close to a stereotypical tantrum as you can get. Mostly slamming my hands on whatever surface is closest to me (typically the couch or table), but I can also end up biting whatever I have my hands on. I've never hurt anyone else in my tantrums, as I have just enough self-control to direct myself away from anything living, but the thought of having a service animal by my side when I go into one.. does still scare me anyway. Is there any way for me to try and redirect my meltdowns into something less violent that you know of? I fear I might not be good for a SD the way I currently react to things, but I'm not sure what else would be able to help me.

      @OakCroftFilms  6 років тому +4

      So part of what my service dog helps me with is preventing the meltdowns in the first place, but when they occur, the service dog knows to be there for me. I think your concerns are valid but I don't think they are ultimately deal breakers.

    Hi! I have a suggestion for a video topic, I know your videos are your ideas but I was hoping you could talk about SPD? Or if you have made a video about it do you mind telling me the title? Or a little information on how you cope with it ^^ please and thank you!!!

    • @OakCroftFilms
      @OakCroftFilms  6 років тому +1

      So I would need to do some extra research on SPD just because my primary focus is Autism and I don't want to misrepresent anyone. I do understand that they are similar and have a lot of crossovers.

    The deep pressure therapy has been catching my attention in all service dog videos I’ve watched. If you have made a video on it can you provide the link. Otherwise please make one from your prospective include a question of does it help in you have physical pain. Please and thank you

    • @OakCroftFilms
      @OakCroftFilms  5 років тому +1

      I haven't done one that specifically focuses on deep pressure therapy, but I discuss it in several videos. I could try to make a video that goes more in depth.

    Make sure that you have a backpack with you with all the supplies you may need with you if you had been to school more than you had not already. That is my advice for you, Nathan

    Great video! I was wondering if you could make a video about meltdowns. How do they they feel when you have one, how can you prevent them (for people without a service dog) and also what should someone present do or not do when you are having a meltdown. Maybe you could touch also on the reason behind meltdowns. Thanks!

    • @OakCroftFilms
      @OakCroftFilms  5 років тому

      That might make a good AAS. I can't believe I haven't done that yet. I'll put it on the list.

    Lucy GSD SD helps a lot, she seems to know what causes me anxiety and if I am anxious or angry as she does certain behaviours.
    She knows certain things will cause me to get anxiety so she stops me by moving sideways across my legs so I can't go anywhere until whatever is gone like a huge crowd or noise. Other times we can be sitting somewhere and she puts her head on my lap to comfort me. If I do get angry she pushes me away from anything I am smacking in anger.
