These are symptoms of a spiritual malady. We are living in a synthetic, tech saturated and prematurely restricted world that has surpassed human adaptation. I find balance in nature. Digging in the dirt, planting, wading in natural sources of water.. this is the medicine that I require.. it works every time. All senses are activated and communion with the natural environment feeds the human spirit.
@Anna G All of the above I'd say. But basically (as I see it) you have 2 things going on: ptsd and possibly adhd. Depression and anxiety are traits of ptsd and because of these symptoms, your body is in survival mode all the time. That means you are hyperalert for any sensory input that might be threatening. I don't know if you are diagnosed with adhd, but that could be a disorder that stems from your childhood on.
This is a whole new aspect of investigating human behaviors, and how we can begin to truly help kids ( and adults ) get what they need to live their personal best, instead of just regarding it as another form of misbehaviors. Bravo, well done !!
Non-disabled people (in this context, I mean people who don't have a condition that's seen as making someone "different" and that people believe they won't ever get, so I don't mean diabetes cos that doesn't make someone an 'other' and I don't mean dementia cos people expect they might well get that one day) don't even think about about disabled people, they only think about the poor poor families "burdened" by us. As soon as you try to advocate for yourself, instead of having a non-disabled person (usually a parent) advocate for you to get diagnosed, genetic tests etc., you find nobody even thinks about it, it's a novel concept to them, that's why people thought things like autism didn't occur in adults for a long time. They only cared about diagnosing children because they only cared about the nagging parents, not the adults who struggling, homeless, poor etc. because of undiagnosed autism. I'm trying to get genetic testing and the constant assumption is that the only reason I would care is that I want to know if I might pass something on to my children, instead of that I have SYMPTOMS, many multisystem conditions and internal and visible malformations that are seriously impairing and distressing. It's so irritating, they're only used to non-disabled, asymptomatic carrier adults having an interest in genetics for the sake of reproductive screening, few symptomatic adults ever come forward for their OWN health issues because the health system and charities never even THINK of raising public awareness and reaching out to undiagnosed adults with clusters of red flags for genetic multisystem syndromes.
Thank you. I have a 3yo exhibiting some of these behaviors that was beginning to have trouble in daycare before I removed him. This and other research has helped know where to start in getting him help before he is labelled as disruptive.
Very interesting. Thank you. My 7 years does really well during the day but the more he's stimulated the crazier he gets. Grocery shopping can be very difficult for him. The school and pediatrician want to medicate him for ADHD but there's been no testing and I'm not convinced that's what's going on or at least not the only thing. Interestingly we have managed to get to a behavioral optometrist turns out he can't track with his eyes (reading is physically not going to happen right now) and he has horrible depth perception so he bumps into thing cause he has no idea how close he actually is, he also touch and kicks things to help him get a sense of were things are around him. There's obviously more but I'm happy for the knowledge we start therapy for that next week. At school he says its just so loud and busy it makes his ears buzz and it makes his body happy and gives his body the wiggles. He's spending lots of time at the office.
You should ask for an individual evaluation at school before you decide to medicate him. My son had his second evaluation and finally they found this sensory processing disorder and a learning disability but only in math. I medicated him a year ago and it didn't work on him and nobody realize why until now that we ask for an OT evaluation (occupational therapy) you have to ask that one too. Good luck!
Kate Untamed / Once the child grows up, these symptoms will lesson. Try to avoid medication as the brain is still developing & will continue to develop until about age 25. The psych meds will interfere in unpredictable ways with brain development.
Aww that poor boy, my heart goes out to him... and you, it's very hard on the parent trying to figure out what to do for them, watching them struggling thru this torment! Hope all goes well with the therapist
Thank you for this video! My son was diagnosed with adhd at age 4. He is now 13 and I’m starting to think he is SPD instead or both. We have an appointment with a neuropsychologist this month and I’m thankful to have all this information so that I can ask more informed questions. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. It's helpful to think back to my childhood and considering what was going on with the information you are sharing here.
My wonderful husband has SPD and stomps so loudly around the house and he shout-talks, when he cooks, at times, especially when he is tired, it sounds like a heavy metal band at practice. He works from home, and is always on conference calls. Does he always need to do/ be like this in order to satisfy his sensory needs? He is fine with this but at times I want to run away just for some peace and quiet. Some Professional advice, please. Many thanks for your video by the way. Just brilliant and MUCH APPRECIATED. I feel very sad at the idea of kids with only SPD being medicated for ADHD. Parents, caregivers and teachers really need this education.
Thank you for this video. My 9 year old daughter has been diagnosed with both ADHD and SPD and I welcome any information I can get to help make her life less stressful.
We are on a waiting list so we dont have a diagnoses yet for our 3 year old. But Im using my youtube channel to document everything I am trying at home to help him until we get a clearer picture.
Dev's day2day Was your son diagnosed yet?? I have a 5 year old son who’s not diagnosed yet either, just wondering how your son is doing & what was his diagnosis. Thank you and I hope all is well!!
What is the difference between SPD and dyspraxia? And is dyspraxia, in essence, ASD without special interests/repetition?? Does dyspraxia fit inside SPD? Or am I way out of the ballpark with my understanding??
How do you handle a 3 year old that is out of control with hitting and throwing that has been diagnosed with SPD? We shy away from yelling or spanking him but time out etc doesn’t work with him but just trying to change a diaper, clothes, getting in the bath, getting out of the bath etc are a nightmare.
I can be walking around community and while crossing street if I'm looking at corner lights I can get them crossed in my mind I figured out if I look at light down the street I know when to cross
If you didn't happen to catch it on our social media announcements we just had a Virtual Summit about Sensory Processing in Autism which we will be releasing recordings for in August. Join our mailing list (members.spdstar.org/page/SUBSCRIBE) to receive announcements on when those will be ready for purchase. We also have a two part webinar series with speaker and Advocate Kieran Rose this week, you can learn more here (www.spdstar.org/basic/monthly-webinars-0)
I always thought I had ADHD, but in grade school I did have postural difficulties. I used to fidget and lean a lot, leading to a curved spine. The teachers told me to sit up straight or else I'd need a back brace. I sat up straight and the problem went away. Now I wonder if I might have SPD.
Awesome video and pointing out that it’s not one diagnosis or the other, but possibly a combination! My sin has been diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, depression and DMDD. But, he has not been diagnosed with a Sensory Processing Disorder and I’m beginning to think that some divides may help him get a better night’s sleep and focus better during the day, in addition to the meds he’s taking. Thank you!
I recommend trying weighted blankets if he is having trouble sleeping (easy to make if money is an issue) it helped me so much I get overstimulated easily but no stimulation drives my adhd nuts.
I'm a new step mom without the ring! With love and concern and determined to help this little girl, named Cass! Please help me find resources! We live in Dayton Ohio
Just here to congratulate you for your concern for that girl ❤️ she will really appreciate it one day. You are doing something that not everyone is willing to do. I myself have bipolar 2, tinnitus and suspecting of having spd, and the crappiest stepmother of the world. She’s my biggest illness 😅 take care! 🍀
Well I had this as a child CFS fybromyalgia as an adult bi help at all at 43 related to hypomobility if you get hypomobility it's gateway to it all it's fhtmr gene my mother has same but severe ms.
Would you suggest that the child would benefit more if the medication was given to 13 year old each day or not on weekends or summer when they don’t need to stay on task as much? I’d appreciate any help on this please.
(Assuming you're talking about stimulants here) Personally, I try not to take my adhd meds when I dont need it. I build tolerance extremely quickly. Just beware he might go through withdrawal even if you just take him off on the weekends. I sleep all of Saturday and am grumpy on sundays. Mondays are golden. I'd definitely talk to your dr first.
Serotonin reuptake inhibitors are used primarily to treat depression and anxiety. They are sometimes helpful for people with Autism spectrum disorder though this is usually when the person has some comorbid anxiety and/ or depression. They are NOT GIVEN FOR AND DO NOT HELP ADHD.
How do I get help? I am 28 & I was homeschooled until 5th grade where I had already had acting classes and intense behavior control at home. (Im great at masking yet once i hit a very intense emotion it all melts down into a raging fit lol) i this yr was diagnosed with sensory processing disorders . No therapy till talk therapy at 16 & then moved to nantucket and bounce back n forth between there n home. Cant work anymore cant handle stress. Nobody has said how to deal w my sensory processing avoidant andhypersensetivity? Im told im bipolar and depressed but honestly my life has reasons to be depressed ans i think some of this is triggered by being u comfortable and frustrated confused. Autism? I need to be part of a study or something they told me - how couldI get in a study? Please help
I'm glad I wasn't the only one!! They're talking about sensory processing, personal space, etc yet they are literally in each other's personal space! Wayyyy too close. I found this almost painful to watch because of that and what appeared to me to be almost staring at each other. Very uncomfortable.
Sensory processing disorder is your thing and yet you record a video with highly distracting noise going on in the room like a window air conditioner. I can't view this video.
Dear Brunette, could you re-do this and not smíle and look away as you talk, and pronounce the blurry words better, please? "They look look like space and theirs" ? Speak to your audience in the camera, not your partner. Practise first is good, because it sure is strange to talk to a camera. But it takes my time and energy and nerves to not have a chance of getting you..thanks
Are you hypersensitive? I can get that way...not looking at the video helps (putting it on in the background). Or turning on captions and focusing on those. In person I definitely focus a background object
they won me with their smiles at the start
Ptsd, depression, anxiety, adhd, spd no one knows wtf is going on with me lol.

Omg I have those tooooo!! Like all of those broooooo YAY IM NOT ALONEEEE
@@phillipestlund9871 I’m agree with you.
Same here Anna G

When are you guys opening a centre in Australia? It's needed. Not JUST for children but for adults too. Those of us who were missed stuggle.

australia is on its own , good luck
Hi as a person with SPD, who had it at a very young age, this helps alot
Thank you. I have a 3yo exhibiting some of these behaviors that was beginning to have trouble in daycare before I removed him. This and other research has helped know where to start in getting him help before he is labelled as disruptive.

Fantastic information, thank you so much. Would it possible for links to the research being referred to in this video to be provided please?

Excellent
lovely video :)
I'd love videos with more specific topic, like "commons hearing sensory issues" and so on.
Thank you for this video. My 9 year old daughter has been diagnosed with both ADHD and SPD and I welcome any information I can get to help make her life less stressful.
How might insomnia make a diagnosis more difficult. Should this be supported first in order to be certain about a possible ADHD diagnosis?
We are on a waiting list so we dont have a diagnoses yet for our 3 year old. But Im using my youtube channel to document everything I am trying at home to help him until we get a clearer picture.

What’s your UA-cam channel?
What is the difference between SPD and dyspraxia? And is dyspraxia, in essence, ASD without special interests/repetition?? Does dyspraxia fit inside SPD? Or am I way out of the ballpark with my understanding??
Spd is so much like autism more than dyspraxia it's so hard to explain (i do have spd for anyone that's gonna hate)
Dyspraxia is a subtype of SPD. Just for info - any diagnosis of ASD has an SPD element within it, that is, anyone with ASD will have some type of SPD.
Are adults misdiagnosed from childhood and what are the symptoms as an adult? 😞
Can qEEG discriminate between ADHD and SPD?
How do you handle a 3 year old that is out of control with hitting and throwing that has been diagnosed with SPD? We shy away from yelling or spanking him but time out etc doesn’t work with him but just trying to change a diaper, clothes, getting in the bath, getting out of the bath etc are a nightmare.

Cereal.
I don't understand ?
Can you tell me why serotonin uptake drugs are prescribed for those with ADHD but not those with autism ?
I’m on SSRIS for Anxiety and Depression that are comorbid with Aspergers and ADHD Inattentive.
Where in houston can my child be diagnosed?
Question to Sensitives, What medications work the best ? 😲🤯
Never could drive I get thing's and information crisscrossed I'm sure I'm dyslexic I'm 70 a senior and now also vision impaired
Very helpful! Thanks!
I have both lol my child likely has both, he's a toddler currently showing signs of spd, and he can't pay attention for crap lol

Justina CatMomma you just described my life...
I wonder if this is mis diagnosed with bipolar disorder..........or does it overlap sometimes ?
Stacy Easter ADHD is quite easily misdiagnosed as bipolar. That happened to me. Not sure about sensory processing disorder.
It overlaps with Autism and ADHD
👁️👄👁️ the body language in this video was so confusing.
I got distracted 👁👄👁
After a while I was thinking: get a room!
dude same it was all i could focus on literally

Very interesting. Thinking about my over complicated family in 3 generations,wait,4. Oh boy,you have your work cut out for you.
It's both in my case.
The way you both kept looking back at eachother is very uncomfortable to watch 😂😂😂
this vid is recorded WAY too soft. I would have loved to listen to it
Headphones work well.
Found the person with auditory issues 😉 (just teasing)
well it's ******* both for me :/
Sensory processing disorder is your thing and yet you record a video with highly distracting noise going on in the room like a window air conditioner. I can't view this video.
Great video and they are so beautiful!!! 😭😍😵😍
Everybody in the USA is ADHD
