You guys ask quite a bit how I go about my process so I wanted to keep it 100% and show you the real deal. I am very excited to be wrapping up the LAST makeover in Holly’s home before my next chapter but wanted to break this #bathroommakeover down as much as I could since it’s going to be a detailed one. The first thing we have to do is get this back to its original form and dissect exactly what we need to do to bring her vision to life. Thank you so much to Care/of for sponsoring today’s episode xx.

To remove wall anchor. You will need a hammer and a something on the wall to protect the wall from the hammer.
Step 1: place screw into anchor halfway
Step 2: get a hammer and guard and tug the screw out

your honesty is one of the many reasons why I keep coming back. it's so easy to DIY and feel defeated when it's not perfect, and it's good to know that most everything in DIY world is still fixable.

It's amazing what you have learned and accomplished in this house in just a few short months and the burnout is SO real. It's a humbling experience admitting that mistakes were made and changing what is necessary to create a space that's, not only beautiful/functional for Holly, but one that you can walk away from feeling proud of. Keep at it!

@@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz I don’t trust them. I’ve always thought that it wouldn’t be a good Idea to put anything really heavy on them, which was borne out when you pulled the bottom one off and I could see how one of the supports had loosened.
We’re putting in some open shelves in our new downsized home and the architect has them as floating shelves. They’ll be holding teapots and mugs and I am not confident that will be safe. Any thoughts about what would be the sturdiest type of support for open shelves?

I love that you show your mistakes. As an amateur diy-er it makes me feel better about the learning process. One thing though is that i was hoping you would have had the "makeover" video as the focal point and the voice over as the video in the corner. It would have been nice to see what you were doing and talking about enlarged since that was the focus.

I forgot to add, I redid my guest room months ago and I made the mistake and painted the room all dark colors. I realized how sad and gloomy it looked a few months later. As you know, renovating rooms is not cheap. I decided to tackle it in early november. I painted the room a mauve type color with soft lilac accents. I am in love it feels so refreshing and it just makes me smile. The room itself has a view of my garden so it's just a beautiful sight. Your makeovers really inspired me because your style is so chic and accessible. I read somewhere that plants help make a room vibrant, refreshing, and live. So i added a few plants and boy did it help. I'm actually thinking of becoming an interior designer, because the feeling of having your vision of something coming to life is just amazing. I love you so much and you've given me so much inspiration.

Viewed 3/6/2022: If you do ever try out wood slatting over tile, make sure that you are using as water-resistant wood as possible, such as acacia wood or cedar. I know there are other kinds of extremely outdoor water resistant wood, but I can't recall them at this particular senior moment. Those types of last outdoors as shingles, siding, roofing, decking, and in patio furniture that is left out in all kinds of weather, so they should last in a shower. And I'm sure I don't have to mention that great ventilation would be an absolute necessity and you would need to use it daily when showering or soaking in a luxurious tub.

I legit might be investing in the stud finder that you recently got - I have one but it's not really reliable and I don't know if it's the brand or because my house was renovated by the owner in a DIY fashion. Example: the space right above my toilet my stud finder thinks the entire width is a stud which made it very nerve wracking trying to install shelves.
Very surprised you don't like floating shelves but then I remembered a lot of your makeovers have been for other people. Can't wait to see what your DIYs will look like when you get your own house and the only person you have to please is yourself!

2nd, your try, you see if it works, if it doesn´t, congrats, you are a human being and you just learned something that did not work ;) sometimes we need these fails to really see that it might not have been the best idea, and by showing it, you make ppl like me feel a little bit better about all the mistakes I´ve made, that even pro´s like you can get something wrong, and that it´s ok :)
I really appreciate you for both showing what didn´t work and how to fix it 💜 things can look amazing and picture ready, but that doesn´t matter if it´s not livable, and sometimes you won´t know that until you´ve lived with it.
Thank you for taking us along :) can´t wait to see how this one ends up :D 💜💜💜

You are so hard on yourself sometimes. :) I'd rather you say that the space wasn't working instead of " I did it wrong". Language is very powerful. With you leaving, it makes sense that you would want to make changes before moving out and changes that will suit Holly's new use of the room. Not sure who's been pushing you to explain yourself in every video. I guess you want to direct people to not criticize but to instead be more supportive. I get that. You are putting yourself out there. Not many people are brave enough to do that.
When I am doing my place, function comes first then beauty. It takes a while to figure out what is working and what is not. I have learned not to compromise for cheaper options. You end up spending more in the end because the piece often doesn't work and just causes frustration. But sometimes just moving things around brings a miracle moment that works. I find less is more when it's the right peice.
    FYI -I think I need to get a stud finder ! :)

idea! Maybe make the shower curtain rod higher (very close to the ceiling) so it can make the room look a lot bigger! And i’tll cover like the stuff on-top of the shelf above the window 🤔 just an idea! You’re amazing 🤍

I have never trusted stud finders. I use the knock-then-test method using a skinny finish nail to test where there is resistance behind the drywall.

Definitely not the way to go! You may hit a pipe that was closer to the drywall for whatever reason. Be careful.

Y'know. I like the black hallway, but yes it is definitely really absorbing a lot of light and can feel scary at first. But i see it as such a unique canvas for wall art like. Idk how to describe it but like since you've mentioned that she loves plants, one i could have ceiling art painted onnit - painting of a large Brazil pothos vine.
Very simple 2 tone colour but it can be done sparsley. Idk I'm just thinking out loud.
I'd love to design it and in the future share a link to a pinterest post to describe it better.

Same girl! I despise floating shelves , they create too much clutter for my liking 🙈😅 I like everting to be tucked away a in a dresser 😂 nice and tidy haha
