So helpful! I'm due in a few weeks, and it was still helpful. I didn't buy many things, and it seems like my A list is basically the same as yours. Even the B list in my head is quite the same!
But it was good to hear that I don't need all that stuff right away, so I feel a lot calmer 😌

The "B list" (future needs) concept seems like a smart idea. I haven't had kids yet but I can imagine you'd be so exhausted the first few months of baby's life, so to have already done that research for high chairs etc before the birth when you're less sleep deprived and have more time for research seems smart.

Would love more baby content, sleep training, routines, lessons learned kind of thing. I know it's hard to put yourself out there as people are so judgey but would be great to get practical tips based on your experience. New mum to a 6 week old here!

Lily... this was SO helpful, even though my baby is now 8 months but really broke it down so well for new mamma's. Why aren't you making more baby videos. You're so practical about it! Should be more videos like this that are sensible!

Yes! I'm 31 wks pregnant and appreciate how practical Lily is, we think so alike I believe. My list is similar to her. I agree she doesn't need to be scared of baby content bc she has a great perspective which is great for FTM

Just as a comment as a paediatric doctor - we would normally recommend under arm thermometers - especially in young babies. Forehead/ear thermometers mostly under estimate temperatures - especially ear ones as they generally wont be put in far enough. An under arm thermometer is generally the best to get a good accurate temperature in

Thanks for mentioning (by not mentioning lol) the reasons why you're not including feeding. I definitely "knew" I'd breastfeed.. Ended up not being able to produce enough, quick enough and baby was (happily) formula fed from 2 weeks. 200 breast pads/feeding cover/loads of maternity bras and tops wasted 😂 lesson learned... However you end up doing it, the only important thing to remember is FED is best ❤️

Maybe this will help someone, I want to recommend a type of stroller we used second time round - the one where the bassinet and pushchair seat(?) are the same thing. So you can easily transform one thing into other while out, depending on the situation(like little one goes into sling and older child can be pushed if they are tired). Game changer if you have kids less then 5 years apart. Swear by it! I’m sure there are lots of brand for this type, we have Kinderkraft Juli and it’s our best purchase yet❤️

I love our Eufy baby monitor - to me it’s above the universally bad. That being said, my baby is only 5 months old, so there’s a chance the battery dies later on.
For buggy, as a fellow Maxi Cosi car seat lover, I wanted to also recommend the Maxi Cosi buggy. It folds really easily, it’s lightweight, and it works from newborn on.

I am not currently pregnant, nor do I have any children yet, but I found this video so interesting and helpful. I will definitely be revisiting in the future when i do need it. I loved the “no nonsense” approach. I think I have a very similar attitude but like Lily can be easily pressured/panicked by others. Love that I can print out the pdf and just tick things off as and when. So so great!!

I agree with a lot of your checklist. We didn't have a dockatot, slings also didn't work out as did swaddles but still think it's essential for majority.

I would love more honest, simple baby advice like this. I appreciate all your disclaimers, and hope you know there are more of us nice, ordinary people who value your work than the small cesspool of haters who judge. The clarity, level of detail and personality of your videos have actually made me look forward to having this baby, more than anything! So.
Feeding is the thing intimidates me more than birth tbh. And you can’t have an open, pros & cons chat with your midwife because they push breast. I’d love to know if you did combo, and if not, did breastfeeding affect your sleep in the night because you were on demand so much? Or, if you bottle-fed, does the decreased time taken to finish the feed make up for the fact it takes longer to prep the bottles?

Hi Lily, thank you for this! You shouldn't apologise! It is super helpful for people who are looking for these things!
I am currently expecting and it's quite overwhelming to think about all of this. I ALWAYS think: my Mom didn't have this and she didn't have more work and I am here! and also I think: what would my Mom think if I told her I bough this! ahahah! but this one obviously plays a much lesser part.
Also, I appreciate that you have added UK. I find these things vary SO MUCH from country to country! I see american videos and all is an essential and super expensive extra things for me, but it is cultural. and it is important to realise this as well when we watch videos. for instance where i am living now in asia it is almost a blasphemy not to take a live in nanny... they really are adamant that you have children you have nannies in the house for them - that is super stressful to me.
I found all of this super interesting and thank you for the video! :)

Dear Lily, I have been a Montessori nanny for 9 years and now expecting my first baby. I have loads of experience but when it comes to buying your own stuff can be overwhelming. I absolutely loved your video. Your approach is practical and clever and I am totally on the same page as you. I think the pdf is SUPER handy and I’m going to use it. Such good advice you gave and I love your style of parenting- very honest and very hands on. I loved when you said you give Grey cold milk. I remember when I first started nannying and I always warmed up their milk. Of course they love it and it’s a nice thing to do specially on a cold day; but really, they don’t mind the cold milk at all and like you said works best if you are out and about and can’t always do it. Grey is a lucky girl to have such great parents. Thank you. Sending love to your family.

About the waterproof mattress topper: in the Netherlands we're not allowed to use one until the baby is able to roll over. Without the waterproof cover fluid drains away. With it on the mattress a young baby could choke for example on their spit up.

I thought I would disagree with lots of things since I have a baby the same age as grey and I've compared and seen that I'm more a minimalist mum. But I agree with most of the essentials and especially to get things when you know you need it. For the babyphone we live in a small flat and don't need it. For when we are away we use dormi, an app that use two phones.

With regards the calpol and nurofen, avoid under three months unless under medical advice, I.e, vaccinations. Fever in a baby under three months old is a red flag and they need to be seen by a doctor, unless it’s post vaccination.

Mine is almost one year old but I still watched the video :D IMPORTANT though: Do NOT put your baby in a bouncer when feeding them solids. They need to be in an up right position always, so that when they choke or gag they can properly get the food out. Please google it, that's why doctors always say the baby needs to be able to sit (even if assisted) before they start having solids.

That was a epic A list! As a first time mum I purchased A, B and C list items. What a waste. Lol. All my A list items have been kept for baby no’2.
The temperature egg was my absolute saviour. I had one in the living room and the other in the bedroom. My little boy overheated really quickly and would get sick quite often as he was born during winter. If he had any viral infection, he would have febrile seizures. An absolute nightmare. That egg kept me in control of the temperature of each room. Especially during winter when all you want to do is increase the heat of your home. X

Great video!m and advice!! Baby #1 is on the way and I am trying to stay minimal in a world that suggests 1000 things for baby’s arrival lol that being said I have added somethings she won’t use right away to my baby shower registry and if someone buys them great and if not I know I can get them later!

A bedside crib! A must! We had a normal crib given to us second hand so we did not get a bedside crib before the baby was born. I had a vaginal birth but was still hard to get up of bed or move at all. We had to buy a bedside crib after 2 nights and all the ones with a good price were sold out. We had to buy a really expensive One, but is a must.

Well done! I agree with pretty much all your comments (give and take a few things that I found useful/ not). Thanks for this. Would love a video on the 6 month + recommendations

I'm glad my list is similar to this!!! Thanks a lot! I hate those ETERNAL list bc it's obvious you dont need that many things in the start and/or plenty of things are unnecessary or even anxiety-inducing. And of course it's not smart to buy tons of breast pads or other things that you dont know if you'll use.
I'm 31 wks pregnant and we have more than half of this list ready - including the big item things, luckily some where inherited or borrowed! - just waiting for the baby showers to see if there's something left then to buy😅😅
And thanks a lot for making your list without brands, for all your international viewers like me☺. We do have many Americans or European baby brands here, but lots are insanely expensive.

Love this! I have a 10.5 month old and agree with basically everything (only differences due to our baby’s preferences for things etc ☺️) have forwarded onto my friend who is due in June! 👍🏻

Lily, I have been there but a long time ago and some things don't change, at the beginning everyone has opinion and other mom's can get competitive. It all works out.
