Everybody acts like Mitch's part in the Singapore "A ha" was a good example but I'll take this one any day. When he belts out "the great I Am" and holds that note for 12 beats, THAT is epic Mitch!
@@bradrozelle3999 That could be, but in the Singapore show he was very frenetic and hyper. (I understand he was tired so drank 2 energy drinks, and they worked!) I just like the clear carrying tone of his voice when he's not trying to please everyone by reaching the high notes. There is such a nice tone to his voice in it's normal range.
This song takes me back to midnight Mass for Cmas as a kid at our convent with my grandma, she passed away before I got married, despite a September wedding, our musician did this song acoustically in her memory
I've come to the conclusion why Acapella moves our emotions like it does . While instruments can bring our emotions out in profound ways We are hardwired to respond to the human voice like nothing else can
KO. That "man" is quite literally not of this world. His purity in both spirit & voice are so GENUINE he authentically does justice. That is why he is so strategically placed where he is THAT guy. He, whether beatboxing, slaying Beyonce, giving us goosies with his angelic tenor, or arranging the body/atmospheric percussion, writing or arranging, he contributes that X factor. They choose to place his special voice in those places on the songs that grab our guts. That said.....PLEASE Sir Nick....you said the word a handful of times at the beginning.....Imagine is the song you need. Trust me. Blessings!
I would love to see you react to their cover of Silent Night. BUT, you have to watch the live version in a cathedral. Avi and Kirstie are just stunning. It's my favorite version of my favorite Chrismas song. 😍
@@AmandaSmith-zr8mn It's such an underrated PTX cover. When Avi's bass drops...I get chills every time. And listen closely to what Kevin is doing as well. So stunning.
I believe it’s absolutely a conscious decision when and how they unleash Kevin’s voice. TBH, I think that’s true of all of them. One of the things I love most about this group is the lack of ego. Their primary objective is who’s voice serves the music/song/lyric the best. Love them so so much. 🥰
Exactly. Hearing Kevin in the bts of Evergreen saying "I don't think this song should have beatboxing, just sleigh bells", as the beatboxer of the band, is just them in a nutshell. So impressive!
KO's voice is so light and normal human sounding, but somehow better than the rest of us even as 'small' as it is compared to the other 4 belters. and pentaholics know what the videos are about. for their big songs, we don't need it. We ARE watching your we really are. (and we like you, we really like you!)

An incredibly beautiful song along with their phenomenal talent. I always enjoy your reactions to ptx. Your expressions of your amazement of their vocal ability, talent, skill, and inner beauty as individuals is so uplifting and impressive. Thank you again!
Just a little fun fact! This was filmed in the cave from the original Batman TV show! 😅 And most Pentaholics have seen the videos dozens (if not hundreds) of times, so not a problem, Saucey Dad! 😅 🤗💞
This is the one that got me hooked on PTX. It was the first video of them I'd ever seen and I was just done for after it. Also always one of my favorites. Just LOVE it.
Did you notice that they framed Kirstin with the light most of the time? That was very deliberate. Their video-making is often simple, but also often surprisingly sophisticated.
I remember the first time I heard this song, I must’ve said, “Oh my God” dozens upon dozens of times…just blown away from the very first note to the last note. Every single one of them was spot on…absolute perfection 🎶🌈🙏❤️🌹
I thought you left the video out on purpose because of copyright. I was watching it in my head I've seen it so many times. I knew exactly where you were when you stopped it 👀 Bonus: That's not just any cave, that's the original Bat Cave used in the TV Batman series in the 1960's. 😉Loved your reaction to this beautiful song. I thought you did no video on purpose because of copyright reasons. I’ve seen it enough that I know exactly what they are doing at all times in the video! Lol Great reaction! You are currently my favorite UA-camr! I’m hoping to be able to do your Patreon soon!
I absolutely adore when Scott and Avi sing lead vocals in a close duet. Their voices sound so utterly amazing together. Drummer boy highlights this as well. I think they are very aware of how and where they use Kevin’s singing voice. His main skill set (beatboxing) is so essential and not easily covered by the others if he sings. And his voice really is so pure, it is like a beautiful treat when he sings. Gotta keep it back for the big moments for maximum impact. Also, I was raised in an industrial area.. my dad was both a pipe fitter and a truck driver. And then after i grad, i was an engineer at the steel mill.. foul language is not new to me and sometimes those words are the only way to get across the magnitude of your feelings or describe what you are experiencing. I assumed the video wasn’t up because of copyright... we’ve all seen it a thousand times. We know the video. ;)
Great reaction! And don't worry about the missing video, like you said, we've seen it before, I'm probably at least 250 of those views. I absolutely love this song, and especially their version. But the one that Home Free does sure is awesome too. ❤️
I love this version. It’s absolutely stunning in every possible way and I feel like they are talking to Mary like she’s there! If you haven’t seen Mitch’s cover of Billie E’s ‘Your Power’….there are no words. He could be singing in an alien language and I’d loop it for the day.
For sure they gave Kevin the last part 🤩🤪, same with Amazing Grace - his voice is so sweet and soft and lovely ❤️. That's the cherry on the cream cake 🥰🥳
I knew exactly what was going on in the video by listening to the song. No worries! While I love to see these gorgeous people whenever I can, I have watched the video so many times, I memorized it! Thank you for appreciating these people and their talent. I feel Kevin is given solos in most of the hard hitting, meaningful songs. Especially the ones that have a Christian attachment. Kevin is very religious, and I think they know the impact to him and the audience whenever he takes over.
Yes exactly. Especially when he was new to singing, but also now, his voice can have such a pure and innocent, almost childlike quality. It hits you in the emotions instantly, especially with how they place it in those epic or poignant songs. And I agree that they do realize the meaning of having Kevin singing in the more religious songs since he feels it. Same with how I loved that Matt & Kevin opened and ended it in Amazing grace.
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful Pentatonix performance. To be honest, I didn't even notice that the video was missing until I started reading the comments. lol. I knew exactly what you were seeing while reacting because I've watched it so many times. I love it every time.
Can a guy breathe- Mitch doesn't seem to need to (same can be said in their version of "Carol of the Bells")!! LOVE this song by them. Each one adds so much to the incredible swelling majesty of this rendition. We've seen the video, can play it back as we listen. Love your reaction!!
Don't worry about not having the video up on this one. I'm sure the vast majority of us have seen it, most likely many times. So, we know exactly what you were talking about, even if we couldn't see it right then. Fun reaction, as always, man. Catch you on the next one.
There are videos you react to that I thought you already would've reacted to by now. This is one of them. Again, you can't question them, their talent, or life; it just is, they just are.
This song is so amazing and they sing this so beautiful. Its so heart tugging. God is good. We are so blessed that God gave his only son to save us. ❤ Perfect fo Easter.
Early Kevin solos were a different breed. Now he can hold his own with the rest but in the early few years of Pentatonix, bringing out Kevin felt different. He was training with Avi to learn how to sing and his voice sounded very innocent and pure. It felt like when they bring out little Timmy to sing the national anthem at a game and you can tell he's going to be amazing if he keeps at it. But then you realize that this little Timmy is being raised by unicorns... and they might be raising a monster.
Awesome reaction! As many times as I have heard their stunning version of this song and watched this video, I still get chills from head to toe every time I hear it. & when that PTX wall of sound hits it still makes my heart skip a beat.
My favorite of all their Christmas songs! ("O Come All Ye Faithful" is a close second). Not only a beautiful rendition with the superb harmonies, but the cinematography in this is outstanding. Did you notice that in the second half of the video, they often showed Kirstie framed by the opening of the cave with the light behind her looking similar to the classic portrayal of Mary/The Madonna with a halo/aura? Absolutely perfect visual metaphor.
Thank you, thank you! I love this video so much and I just *knew* your reaction would be epic. I'm SG1Fan, by the way, aka FoxPhile aka Heidi. I think this is perhaps the greatest example of just how well PTX arranges their voices to present a song at its absolute best. How they each get solos, but then the blending of Scott and Avi - not the most common - followed by the blending of Kirsten and Mitch which is just angelic. Then Kevin comes in with that heavenly voice that is just beyond perfect for some of the most profound verses in the song. Add in the amazing sections where they all blend together - either in a round that leads to that powerful crescendo or the very soft and beautiful ending. To say nothing of the Mitch slap on “the Great I AM!” Thank you again for this reaction. It was all I hoped it would be.
I’m the only one who think that Kirstin looks like Maria herself? Especially in the takes where the light in the back is flooding around her like a aura? Love that video love your reactions
Funny that you forgot to post the video, however, having seen it so many times it makes interesting to "listen" to without the visual. That way I can really focus on the voices. Thank you! 🥰

Another incredible version: Voctave with Mark Lowry. Mark actually wrote the lyrics originally, and is a Christian singer and comedian. And you can truly hear the difference when then the vocalist believes the words with his whole heart and soul.
I didn't think anything could be better than this PTX cover, but Mark sings his original with the 12 member (or about) group "Voctave". You owe yourself a listen!

It's definitely deliberate - in the particularly epic songs, Kevin comes in as the last (if not always final) soloist, and after the wall of sound. It's the same in Imagine and Amazing Grace, for instance.
Filmed in Bronson Cave in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. It was the entrance to the Batcave in the TV show. Cave acoustics are so resonant. In another cave in St Paul, MN Chris Rupp was joined by Home Free for a different Xmas song, What Child is This. That is a rare one with both Chris and Chance.

I don't know if you noticed, since there's no closeup, but those first "Oo-oo--oo-oo-oos" at the very start were also Kevin. Don't feel bad if you didn't notice--it took me at least 30 times through this song before I said, "Wait a minute...that's not Kirstie, it's not Mitch, it's not Scott or Avi, so who...oohhhhhhhhh."

Not sure what you mean? Home free released theirs 4 months ago. Ptx has had this song since 2014.
@@PtxXtp Sorry about that, I only saw PTX's the first time after I saw HF's, and thought it had just been released. Didn't actually check, just assumed because of when I saw it. Yes, I know what the breakdown is (face palm).
I've loved this it came out. My initial reaction was to be at a loss for words. It's just stunning.
Excellent reaction
Home Free just did a What Is The meaning of Canadian things.
I believe that the cave used in the video was the same (bat)cave used in the old Batman TV show from the 60s
Keep the Slappy your unicorn handy if you ever do a reaction to Postmodern Jukebox rendition of Radiohead’s Creep featuring Haley Rainhart. She is a female unicorn for sure! Love the reactions coming 👍
Yes, this!
If you liked this song, you should listen to "Coventry Carroll". Unfortunately, ptx never made a video, but they recorded it... It is sooooooooooooo gooooooooooood!
This is a top 3 PTX song for me with Little Drummer Boy and Daft Punk.
Pentatonix did a great job with this. I like how the added Kevin in. Their voices were perfect in this version however I think Homefree’s version was more profound.
Have you reacted to their Season 5 of the Sing Off, special performace christmas medley yet. Since you love live singing, check that out. Very good.
Home Free's rendition is also gorgeous.
