RIP Laura Branigan (July 3, 1952 - August 26, 2004), aged 52
You will be remembered as a legend
On this day (September 5) in 1987, the late Laura Branigan performed her hit single "Shattered Glass" on the TV show American Bandstand. This would be the final broadcast of American Bandstand on the ABC Network before it entered first-run syndication a couple of weeks later.
The syndicated edition of American Bandstand lasted for less than a year. It was eventually picked up by the USA Network almost a year later in 1989.
American Bandstand eventually aired its last program on October 7, 1989, after a 37-year run on network and cable TV.
I’ve been searching for this song for 32 f***n’ years. I’m in tears.

So we were driving through Boston in 1987 on the way to my younger brother's wedding and this song played on the radio. My older brother, Steve Coe had written this song late 1970s. Hope that Steve and Laura have met up in heaven.
Laura Branigan was in my opinion a underated singer. She had such an incredible voice and really should have been marketed better.

She was absolutely gorgeous, but tbh she had the ‘wrong’ looks. Notice how it’s mainly blondes who are revered and idolised? Britney Spears voice was absolutely average in every single way but she’s blonde and cute, so she hit it big. Brunettes and especially redheads struggle in that industry and it sucks.

There is literally no one else like Laura. And there never will be.
Too bad she didn't have more creative input in her music though. Most of it isnt very good. It seems she relied on producers to get her material that was mainstream pop sounding for that time. Waste of a great voice Very kind woman from what I have seen and heard though.

It's march 2020 and this song still sounds as good today as when. It was released Laura branigan was a special talent and is sorely missed r.i.p laura
She was simply the best of pop in her time. 83, 84, 86 of course it was a time for Madonna and Cyndi Lauper but Laura was a great pop star.
Madonna got lucky and had a lot of well known producers who helped her because of her looks and sex appeal.
She used the feminine sex appeal to the max to rise to stardom as a singer. Her vocal talents were not that impressive as Laura Branigan’s.

I was blessed to listen to her live. She was great but back in the 80s, the competition was fierce! She still managed to stand out and stand alone. No bad press. No Madonna type behavior. A wonderful artist who loved her craft, people, and husband. His struggle with cancer took a lot of her time and energy. Even after he died. Clear clear voice that defined raw unbridled emotion. Her best gift to us is that ANYONE who tried to do a cover of her songs fell short. I wish they would have made a movie about her life starring Jennifer Connell (dubbed of course).

My two guy pals, and my gal pal went to club in Toronto one night back in 1987, this song had just come out. It was still early so club was pretty quiet. My friends were sitting back having drinks and I was the only one on the dance floor dancing to this song. My gal pal who was there that night passed away a few years back, so this song is super bittersweet to me now. I miss her.

....Laura attempts to 'shatter' the charts, again....: The 1st single from 1987's "Touch", was done by on-the-rise (at the time) Producers Stock, Aiken & Waterman; Laura's label wanted a sure-fire hit, and had her team up with them, at the last minute..... She got along SO well, she cut another 'quickie' track for the LP w/ them, "Wherever I Go" (a Hazel Dean cover from '84)..... (cont.)
...S/A/W asked the label if they could do an ENTIRE LP with her, but the main Producer of "Touch" would have to be bought out of his 'contract' to do the LP (which meant a LOTTA money), and so, it never happened....THEN, afterwords, S/A/W worked with Rick Astley, Bananarama, DONNA SUMMER, Kylie..... and THIS Song bombed on the charts..... 'shattered', INDEED......
