Had a brilliant test drive of this new X1 and just ordered one! Non-M Sport suspension and 19” alloys and the ride was great.

Interesting Chris. I couldn't find one to test drive. Like you, I am considering ordering a non-Msport on 19". Was it soft/floaty/very comfortable or less comfortable than most cars? Is it still a firm car in non-msport? Thanks for any opinion you can give based on your experience.

@@mad4tar77 We’ve had our car for 2 months now and have done just over 4000 miles. It’s really comfortable and not crash, but still plenty firm enough, especially on the UK with roads that are full of pot holes and bad surfaces. We bought the XDrive23i which has plenty of power for us and is returning about 40 mpg which is brilliant. Also spec’ed the bigger fuel tank (definitely recommend for only £50) and the Technology Pack (also recommended). We absolutely love the BMW X1 after having Land Rover Discovery Sports for the last 7 years (the suspension on the Disco Sport was too soft and floaty!), and really recommend it.

Great review Bob. The only negative about this car is the absence of knobs and the complicated touch screen. - Bring back knobs ! There is a strong case for ignoring EVs and Hybrids for about another 10 years.

VW are brining back real buttons on the steering wheel I think which is a small change in the right direction. The touch screen is such an awfully unnecessary fad that no one asked for or wanted. Second only to voice control which drives me nuts.

Great Video Bob. I have always maintained that ICE vehicles are what we need. Even Diesels are cleaner than most people think. only Nox from exhaust, but it is a tiny, tiny amount - same as any petrol engine - and potentially 600 miles to a tank. 5 minute fill up. £20k cheaper than Electric (how much fuel is that, how many "free" miles)

I wonder if you went for the 19" wheels the ride would make the suspension more acceptable. Also you were driving the M sport car. I kind of wish this came with a PHEV. That way when I'm driving around town I could use electric only. I am probably going to order this car anyway. The local dealership finally got their X1 tester here in Toronto. I think the NA version has 240hp so it's almost as fast and big as the X3 now.

Great video. during your test drive have you experienced some lag/lack of responsiveness when moving off from stationary ? As i could understand it would seem there isn't any hybridization in the US model 28i and all reviewers / car journalists all reported the hiccup upon moving off the line. It takes a split second for the car to move once you push the gas pedal. Once on the move they all agree to say it's a smooth ride with quick gear shifting. In Europe, i figured our models being equipped with 48V battery to boost could help resolve this issue. Since electric motor could output power all at once, it should be fast off the line. What do you think ? THX

Looks like that one has big wheels, the garages love to sell them but an owners experience with smaller wheels will be much more comfortable. I love BMWs. I have owned a few and loved nearly all of them. What about the PHEV option? I bought one earlier this year for my wife, she hardly ever uses petrol, I would say less than 2L per 100km. Granted she does most mileage around Dublin.

I saw this review and still don‘t get why should it be the best small SUV on the world… cause it‘s good? Cause it‘s not a plugin or cause the seats are good? Look around… still it‘s suspension is not confortable and it is still a strong point for me - I do prefer comfortable sunspension. Sorry but I don‘t get it, why should it be the best small SUV… and why shouldn‘t I buy it? Cause it‘s expensive??

Electric cars are better because they are cleaner they are quieter, you do not have to waste time with an electric car at a petrol station you just plug them in at night to charge and it will cost less than a dirty diesel or petrol car. Then off you go the next day. A petrol car anyone will leave this for dead at the traffic lights. Electric wins. How much is Shell or BP paying you Bob?

It should cost 40 to 50k starting price at least but what the hell the whole World has gone mad with prices the last year or so.

You're saying 680km like that's alot Bob. My Renault Kadjar 1.6 diesel would trounce that amount of Kms, on a run I'd get at least 550 miles which is well over 800kms so whilst it's commendable for a petrol it'll never usurp a diesel and being a BMW it'll be hideously overpriced plus the indicators will be optional as no one who drives a BMW uses them! 😂 I have a friend in work who when he had a 3 series and complained about not being allowed out of junctions and I said the reason is because of that badge on the bonnet! I'd have the Dacia you drove in the desert over that every time.

You’re right Bob, time is critical and our planet is running out of time. Instead of going back to the same oul status quo, we should be voting with our preferences on where the motor industry should be moving to. I know electric cars are worse for the environment at the moment and infrastructure isn’t there, but buying more ICE vehicles will not solve any of this.
