I like this lying mechanism that Kokichi has. Whenever he acts emotional, he acts OVERLY emotional so its easier to pass it off as lying instead of him actually having feelings and caring.
He is over emotional and has anxiety I think so ya can't blame him. He only lies cause he thinks he has to hide how he actually feels. Also cause of the events that keep playing in his his head from when he was younger. I think.
But at the end of the day I do believe someone the things he shows are just exaggerated emotions that he’s actually having. I do believe he regretted gontas death and that he didn’t want it to happen but he acted overly emotional so he wouldn’t have to let it out that he did actually care

The Salmon mode *makes* this ship. Kokichi is a ball of checkered riddles, and Shuichi is made for that kind of person. But seriously, once you get to understand how Kokichi is much more straightforward than he appears, so many of the things that come across as lies are actually hints of his troubled background and situation. Said situation is even heavily nudged in the main game as to how he endures malicious liars, torturers even, to the point that he has so many measures for avoiding and taking down security, making escape routes, you name it. Evasiveness has become key to survival and he's constantly on the move. He isn't paranoid, he is well aware of the target being on his back and he has ample evidence for it- *he can literally see through peoples' lies* . He doesn't want to talk about him and his talent because it's dangerous for everyone involved to know. Seriously, he endures a **lot** of dangerous crap because of his talent. It's no freakin wonder he lies so much to keep himself - but more importantly, the people close to him - safe. It's why he ended up pushing Gonta away from him in the Talent Plan, even though he clearly likes him. It's why he appreciates that although Kiibo doesn't trust his words, he trusts him as a friend. It's why he's so cryptic damn near all the time. It's also why he self-blames so heavily when he cannot save Kaede.
Okay, I take back the Salmon mode making the ship - because in hindsight this was a disaster proving Shuichi doesn't actually understand or try to understand Kokichi at all - but the rest still stands..

Yeah, I heard he 'says' something to her in chapter 5 but I don't see how 'good' it must have been to warrant shipping them. Even Kaito and Maki make more sense than that, heck Kaede and Shuuichi did despite only one chapter and prologue of interactions. I don't remember those two ever interacting willingly tbh. I feel like Kokichi is supposed to be a hated character but he was build in a way that you Have to love this dude no matter how bad he can be because he's so damn adorable and funny... I love this ship, I'm sorry. Just take in for a moment that Ouma, the embodiment of lying himself, breifly considered stopping with lying just to get closer to Saihara. That's deep, in my opinion.
On one hand it’s REALLY aggravating to me that the two positive outcomes in this event are to keep enabling Kokichi to continue his compulsive lying since he even says outright that he wants to get closer to people, but his lying pushes them away. He’s developed a really unhealthy compulsion akin to that of common “addictions” as a form of coping, and just nodding your head to let him dig deeper into it seems backwards to me. But on the other hand it’s the fact that it’s completely backwards that fascinates me: Kokichi is EXTREMELY unpredictable, hell, just his throwaway dialogue requires multiple playthroughs to fully understand. For some reason, I actually sort of like how Kokichi is an outlier for this event, the “correct” thing to do isn’t actually to acknowledge or help his problem, it’s to make it worse. Something about how that’s totally opposite to what you usually would do in Harmonious Heart events just makes me really enjoy his character a lot more. I kind of appreciate how he’s fandom popular, but I really would like to see more legit analyses of his character. So many inconsequential details on a normal character are absolutely vital to his and I genuinely love it about him!

My personal choice was to tell him not to stop lying because: 1-he can't stop lying, at least not inmediatly, he needs to have someone Who he trusts and with lots of time slowly drag him out of lying for the change to actually stick around for good and 2- he actually trusts you, which is quite remarcable given his attitude, in a way It makes sense, "somebody Who can understand me without me having to tell the truth and expose myself?,Count me in!", If you aknoledge the previous point he Will Hold you In higher regard and take what you have to say more seriously,hell he even agrees with this, "do you really think you're worth changing for ?" My point is, if you do the following you'll grow Closer to him and become his "person worth changing for". But beware this influence works both ways ;). Maki, I noticed, is the same way. Her correct choices aren't to face the terrible things she's done or acknowledging that her friend probably hates her, but to have Shuichi say to forget the past and that he would still like her even if he killed him. It's fucked up but this game is all about the fine line between truth and lies, so I like this.

I've noticed a consistent pattern with these harmonious heart events (spoilers if you want to watch them yourself) : Rantaro's focuses on his talent. Kaede's is about her obsession with the piano. Ryoma's is about his cat that he unfortunately had to leave behind after his arrest. Kirumi's is about her one weakness - being unable to cut konjac. Tenko's is about her deciphering how she truly feels about "degenerate males". Korekiyo's is thinking of a way to not bore Shuichi with his constant talk of anthropology. Miu's is focusing on her inventions, and how not to weird Shuichi out with them. Gonta's is focusing on how to be a gentleman - and what makes a gentleman. Kaito's is about him trying to stay strong and not show his weaknesses to anybody. Tsumugi's is about dressing Shuichi up in a cosplay. Kiibo's is about an incident that occurred with his professor a while ago. I left Angie and Kokichi out for last. They're both pondering about their feelings for Shuichi. But, there's a difference is between the two's events: Angie's love for Shuichi is more based off of her cultural and religious beliefs - constantly asking Atua for his guidance and knowledge to help Angie find her way through relationships - well, practically through her entire life. It's also a part of her culture from her island to marry someone around that time - and correct me if I'm wrong - I don't necessarily think it's a very love-related thing, more like a principle of life. In that you have to marry someone. Kokichi's, on the other hand, is not guided by any of the above factors - and is simply what he wants to do with his life. I think we can all agree that he is actually quite an anxious person (as shown throughout the killing game), possibly because he doesn't want others involved with his personal life, maybe due to dangers and/or him having a traumatic past. So him warming up to Shuichi and wanting to get closer to him is a big achievement - and shows that he truly loves and trusts him. Him also considering possibly giving up his *entire lifestyle* to just be close to Shuichi is enough to decipher that Kokichi does have romantic feelings for the former. Just my take on everything!! You can, of course, ship anybody you want with anybody. This is my opinion, but I truly believe that there is some cannon chemistry between Shuichi and Kokichi. peace y'all
I just love their dynamic. Saihara is willing to tolerate Ouma's lies and see through them like a lie detector, and Ouma wants Saihara to figure him out, detect his lies, and even considered to stop lying just for Saihara! I just love everything about Saiouma, I find it comforting 💞

Honestly.. this made me understand Kokichi's character even better. To all the people who say that Kokichi is a monster or whatever. I respect your opinion, but.. You just don't understand him good enough. That's what makes his character complicated.
Kokichi really just wants to get closer and get to know the people around him, but he developed such an unhealthy coping mechanism that’s pushing the people away from him. He’s so hurt from his past experiences that he thinks if he ever dared to build close friendships/relationships with others the same thing will happen again. He wants to built new friendships and relationships with people, you can just tell that he wants to so badly but his mindset is making him believe that he’ll get hurt by them. He’s afraid if he got attached to someone or more, they’ll betray him or he’ll lose them. That’s why he pushes people away because he’s so afraid of that happening.
Its been 2 years but i am still watch Danganronpa videos and i'm happy when Kokichi is happy too :') He was trying to stop lying just for to get closer with Saihara

Man, I’ve had each one of these convos with people. I know most people can’t relate but I sure do. It’s anxiety inducing trying to meet new people and getting them to understand your compulsive lying disorder. Which then makes the lying worse lol For anyone wondering, being a compulsive liar is like having a bug bite on your ass cheek. You can either give into the urge to lie and scratch it while people judge you heavily OR you can concentrate on telling the truth while the bite gnaws at you. Eventually, you WILL scratch the itch and usually it’s completely reflexive. Comes as naturally as breathing and near impossible to correct by yourself. 😅 And yeah…stress(like being in a killing game) makes it much worse and exaggerates the lies. On one hand it’s REALLY aggravating to me that the two positive outcomes in this event are to keep enabling Kokichi to continue his compulsive lying since he even says outright that he wants to get closer to people, but his lying pushes them away. He’s developed a really unhealthy compulsion akin to that of common “addictions” as a form of coping, and just nodding your head to let him dig deeper into it seems backwards to me.
But on the other hand it’s the fact that it’s completely backwards that fascinates me: Kokichi is EXTREMELY unpredictable, hell, just his throwaway dialogue requires multiple playthroughs to fully understand. For some reason, I actually sort of like how Kokichi is an outlier for this event, the “correct” thing to do isn’t actually to acknowledge or help his problem, it’s to make it worse. Something about how that’s totally opposite to what you usually would do in Harmonious Heart events just makes me really enjoy his character a lot more. I kind of appreciate how he’s fandom popular, but I really would like to see more legit analyses of his character. So many inconsequential details on a normal character are absolutely vital to his and I genuinely love it about him!
Tenko's is sort of like that as well. Thought to be fair, 3 out of 4 times the event ends with Tenko telling Shuichi to kill himself.
Well take no ofense but...
He's a pathological lier Who has been lying for his entire life, do you really think that he's going to stop just because you tell him so?
My personal choice was to tell him not to stop lying because:
1-he can't stop lying, at least not inmediatly, he needs to have someone Who he trusts and with lots of time slowly drag him out of lying for the change to actually stick around for good and
2- he actually trusts you, which is quite remarcable given his attitude, in a way It makes sense, "somebody Who can understand me without me having to tell the truth and expose myself?,Count me in!", If you aknoledge the previous point he Will Hold you In higher regard and take what you have to say more seriously,hell he even agrees with this, "do you really think you're worth changing for ?"
My point is, if you do the following you'll grow Closer to him and become his "person worth changing for". But beware this influence works both ways ;).

Maki, I noticed, is the same way. Her correct choices aren't to face the terrible things she's done or acknowledging that her friend probably hates her, but to have Shuichi say to forget the past and that he would still like her even if he killed him. It's fucked up but this game is all about the fine line between truth and lies, so I like this.
Pathological lying is a mental condition that can’t just be up-and-stopped, he would need therapeutic treatment for sure

It takes sooooo long to fix a person's flaws and by letting him be will make them grow closer and closer to a point where saihara can read ALL ouma's lies and ouma would have no reason to ever lie again

I've noticed a consistent pattern with these harmonious heart events (spoilers if you want to watch them yourself) :
Rantaro's focuses on his talent.
Kaede's is about her obsession with the piano.
Ryoma's is about his cat that he unfortunately had to leave behind after his arrest.
Kirumi's is about her one weakness - being unable to cut konjac.
Tenko's is about her deciphering how she truly feels about "degenerate males".
Korekiyo's is thinking of a way to not bore Shuichi with his constant talk of anthropology.
Miu's is focusing on her inventions, and how not to weird Shuichi out with them.
Gonta's is focusing on how to be a gentleman - and what makes a gentleman.
Kaito's is about him trying to stay strong and not show his weaknesses to anybody.
Tsumugi's is about dressing Shuichi up in a cosplay.
Kiibo's is about an incident that occurred with his professor a while ago.
I left Angie and Kokichi out for last. They're both pondering about their feelings for Shuichi. But, there's a difference is between the two's events:
Angie's love for Shuichi is more based off of her cultural and religious beliefs - constantly asking Atua for his guidance and knowledge to help Angie find her way through relationships - well, practically through her entire life. It's also a part of her culture from her island to marry someone around that time - and correct me if I'm wrong - I don't necessarily think it's a very love-related thing, more like a principle of life. In that you have to marry someone.
Kokichi's, on the other hand, is not guided by any of the above factors - and is simply what he wants to do with his life. I think we can all agree that he is actually quite an anxious person (as shown throughout the killing game), possibly because he doesn't want others involved with his personal life, maybe due to dangers and/or him having a traumatic past. So him warming up to Shuichi and wanting to get closer to him is a big achievement - and shows that he truly loves and trusts him. Him also considering possibly giving up his *entire lifestyle* to just be close to Shuichi is enough to decipher that Kokichi does have romantic feelings for the former.
Just my take on everything!! You can, of course, ship anybody you want with anybody. This is my opinion, but I truly believe that there is some cannon chemistry between Shuichi and Kokichi. peace y'all

Honestly.. this made me understand Kokichi's character even better. To all the people who say that Kokichi is a monster or whatever. I respect your opinion, but.. You just don't understand him good enough. That's what makes his character complicated.
Kokichi really just wants to get closer and get to know the people around him, but he developed such an unhealthy coping mechanism that’s pushing the people away from him. He’s so hurt from his past experiences that he thinks if he ever dared to build close friendships/relationships with others the same thing will happen again.
He wants to built new friendships and relationships with people, you can just tell that he wants to so badly but his mindset is making him believe that he’ll get hurt by them.
He’s afraid if he got attached to someone or more, they’ll betray him or he’ll lose them. That’s why he pushes people away because he’s so afraid of that happening.
Kokichi is awsome, but being a supreme leader at such a young age. .must have lots pressure on him. Hope it dosent" crush him"

Man, I’ve had each one of these convos with people. I know most people can’t relate but I sure do. It’s anxiety inducing trying to meet new people and getting them to understand your compulsive lying disorder. Which then makes the lying worse lol
For anyone wondering, being a compulsive liar is like having a bug bite on your ass cheek. You can either give into the urge to lie and scratch it while people judge you heavily OR you can concentrate on telling the truth while the bite gnaws at you. Eventually, you WILL scratch the itch and usually it’s completely reflexive. Comes as naturally as breathing and near impossible to correct by yourself. 😅
And yeah…stress(like being in a killing game) makes it much worse and exaggerates the lies. And many of us commit suicide due to social and societal rejection. Whoever wrote for Kokichi’s character either did their homework or more likely, knows someone with the disorder.
