Finger Flickin' Good | Haute42 Cosmox R16 Review

- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- Haute42 / Cosmox's latest controller is here! It looks very similar to the T16, but has some important differences. Let's go over some of the features today in my review for the Haute42 / Cosmox R16.
NOTES:
1. The "T16" on the screen refers to the turbo setting and not the model number.
2. GP2040-CE is an open-source software aimed at running on RP2040. One is hardware the other is software. The R16 does have an RP2040.
Thanks to Pelsinen for the info.

Does the rim job on the R16 do it for you?
*The WHAT...*
A classic feel is great. The rim analog of arcade buttons are a great idea
@@blaximum DID HE STUTTER!?
came from the haute discord and just wanted to buff the algorithm, this is really well edited. keep up the good work, love the stick!
Thanks bro. Really appreciate it 🙏 loving the stick too!
Awesome review! I'm really loving the R16!
Thanks. Same! It's quickly become my favourite leverless so far. I haven't put any time into the M16 yet but it looks to have potential as well. Will be trying it next week :)
Top notch review, as usual! 👊
Thanks 👊
This video convinced me to pick one up. Awesome review. You have a stunning controller!
Appreciate the compliment, thank you 🙏
Great review 🔥
Thanks bro 👊
Dude i just came across this review interested in buying the controller for myself, and wow your editing is FIRE! Keep up the good work bro this was an awesome watch :)
Thanks for the kind words bro! 🙏
After falling in love with my g16, I really wanna pick up a larger leverless from haute for lap play. This review was amazing and the editing was incredible, and now the R16 is at the top of my list, great work!
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate that 👊
Their bigger models are nice for sure. I've been enjoying this R16 and also been testing their M16 Plus, both are great. Do you have trouble with the RS button on the G16? I'm still hitting it by accident with the bigger models, so that is something to be aware of if you're having trouble with it on the G16. If you float your hands (like we're supposed to!) you'll be fine though.
@@VidVayder @VidVayder oh no I actually don't find myself hitting it by accident too often, but that could be because I put my G16 on a cutting board while I'm playing on my lap so my hands have somewhere to rest 😅
@ArkAynJoel that’s good. I need to rewire my brain. I’m too used to 12 button controllers!
Was torn between getting a new leverless stick cause I'm moving away from traditional arcade sticks (QANBA QR RAF that I've had for 15+ years). Got a Crossup HITBOX but not a big fan of lever anymore. Gonna buy this R16 next (was looking at the T16 originally from Haute 42). I really hope R16 works well! Thank you for your input!
Hope you enjoy using it :)
Nice review.
The R16 buttons size are smaller compare to T16?
Yes the R16 buttons themselves are smaller. Including the rims they are a similar overall size to the T16 buttons.
Thanks for the review! Which of the two switches do you prefer?
For looks, definitely the Crystal (you can see I switched back) but for sound I like the slightly thockier Wind Engine. I enjoy the feel of both.
Very nice review. Btw, have U compared it to the S version in term of buttons sliding? which one is easier to slide?
I don’t have the S unfortunately. I have the G. I believe the R16 has new style buttons that are rounder on the edges. It looks like the S buttons are similar to G, which are slightly flatter. That’s what I think from looking at the S anyway.
The R16 buttons do help with sliding, and so do the rims, but it’s definitely not as easy as sliding on the Kitsune. As mentioned in the video I have to slide with the right spot on my finger with the R16. With Kitsune I can do it without thinking.
3:05 The T16 in the oled screen is the Turbo interval. Not that it's recognised as a T16.
Thanks for mentioning this. I was notified earlier so updated the description. I will make sure to address this in my review for the M16 Plus.
hello what bind did you put for the "pinky button" in the WASD buttons?
Right now it’s my parry button on SF6 (LS on PS5 controller).
Loved the review! I was wondering when swapping the switches, do they just come out when pulled or do they need to be desoldered and resoldered like with some keyboards?
You get a switch puller with in the packaging. It’s not a very good switch puller but it does work when you get used to the technique. The key is to squeeze very hard!
Thanks for the kind words 🙏
Sorry I just realised I didn't fully answer your question. There is no desoldering at all. You don't have to dismantle or unscrew anything either. Just pull off the button caps, use the switch puller to pull off switches, and then pop in the new ones. Very easy!
@@VidVayder Haha no worries, your previous response was more then enough but I appreciate the clarification.
Which would recommend for a newbie the T16 or the R16 ? Also great videos dude. 🤜 for my OCD brothers
Haha thanks bro, appreciate the kind words 👊
Since you said you’re a newbie I assume you don’t have a preference on where the extra left button is placed. I would recommend the R16. It’s slightly more aesthetically pleasing imo. As far as I know the R16 has newer buttons (I like the buttons) and the rims look great. The switches are the same as the T16 Pro, and better than the standard T16.
I have to mention though that depending on how you plan to play, the button next to jump on 16 button models could potentially cause you grief. But you can unmap them in the web configurator to stop accidental inputs.
I guess was unlucky with the T16 I ordered, because it was Haute trash. Some of the buttons were sticking when pressed, so returned it.
That sounds bad. Was it the old T16 or T16 Pro? And do you know if it was the switches causing the sticking?
Man, that Yor spyxfamily artwork R16 mod you have done is amazing 👏 🤩
Thanks man. Took ages looking for the right images ngl! I am happy with the outcome 🙏
@VidVayder Yeah, the Deviant Art search for the right artwork can tough one.🙏
I'm really enjoy your videos covering the haute 42 leverless controllers. They are nice and informative. My favorite parts is the modding section. I hope one day i can pick up haute g16 myself and join the leverless world. Since I play fgs on keyboard.
Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Keep doing you and enjoy your day
Yeah 100%. Scrolling through pages of Deviant art all day!
I appreciate the kind words mate. I don’t usually mod stuff but started doing it with these controllers so viewers can get an idea of what it’s like. It’s really growing on me now and I finally get the appeal 😅
Hope you have a great day too mate.
what do you think about the adapter input delay vs native ps5 compatibility of the kitsune?
I don’t feel much difference to be honest. The only input delay I have noticed is when using the Brook Wingman incorrectly by plugging it directly into the PS5 instead of the EXT port on the controller.
I will update you when I get a chance after some testing but for now I haven’t noticed a significant difference between the Kitsune and GP2040 devices for input delay.
Hello again, I just compared the two controllers in lab. I didn't notice any difference between the Kitsune and R16 (with Booter 5) with input lag. If it's there, it's minimal enough to not affect me personally. I was able to pull off my usual combos and movement seemed snappy and natural.
@@VidVayder thank you for the response, Im currently entering in the leverless space and I am really struggling with learning cammy dive kicks, did you ever consider making a video about it?
@GiianK_ hmm I do have a beginners tips video that talks briefly about dive kick.
The gist is that I find it easier to dive kick if I use my right thumb for jumping. A lot of people dislike this idea, but I find right thumb jumping allows mobility for my left hand to do the qcf motion.
One more thing, always go for accuracy first BEFORE trying to go fast. Dive kick in this game has a minimal possible height, so it’s not useful to rush/try and execute dive kick as soon as possible. Working on accuracy of your input will naturally allow you to execute it quickly enough.
Have you had a chance to compare this to the duelpad a16? I'm deciding between the two. The r3 seems a bit too close on the r16, but I do prefer the look of the button rims
I haven't tried the Dualpad A16, no. But I do feel like the R3 button is too close on the R16. I can't be lazy when I play because the bottom of my thumb can hit it if I use 'bad form'.
Having said that, if you're able to stay aware of it, it's fine. Or maybe unbinding the button is a good idea.
@VidVayder thanks for your input I'll have a think about it, do you open on taking a look at the duelpad a16 at any point?
I mean, if they sent one to me I would review it yes. Unfortunately I can’t spare the funds at the moment to buy one for myself. If they have a review programme hopefully they will stumble upon my channel :)
How is the travel time, on keyboard I have trouble performing frame perfect inputs since pressing a key gives 2-3 frames instead of a one frame press due to the nature of my switches
For the stock Crystal Switches: total travel 3.2±0.25mm, trigger travel 1.2±0.3mm
For the Wind Engines: total travel 2.8±0.25mm, trigger travel: 1.2±0.3mm
Those numbers don't really mean anything to me 😅 All I can tell you is that it feels fast enough, faster than Razer's optical switches (that is probably more due to operating force), but then I play SF6 and that game does not require frame perfect inputs, there's a massive buffer window for everything.
Hi, would you recommend purchasing if I already own a kitsune?
If the modding appeals to you, then yes. I would recommend that you try different switches on the Kitsune first if you can find a good price for replacements, because after using the Crystal Switches and Wind Engine Switches by Haute42/Cosmox, it's quite hard to go back to the Kitsune. The stock Kitsune switches feel mushy, wobbly, and heavy in comparison.
At the moment the R16 is around £55, and the Booter 5 dongle is £29. So that's around £94 to get a controller you can experiment with. Not a bad price if you love the fighting game hobby and you have the money to spare. The R16 is also different enough in looks and feel to justify a place in your collection.
One thing I need to warn you about if you do go for the R16; it might take time to get used to the extra buttons. I've accidentally hit the R3 button a few times already (the one near the jump button) and it doesn't feel good during an intense match. You won't have this problem with the Kitsune since it's a 12 button controller. Be prepared for a learning curve.
Any tips on how I can get this in the UK? The AliExpress shop doesn't ship here apparently
I just checked and was able to get all the way to the checkout and place my order. Are you on Haute42's official Aliexpress store?
s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dcxh8OX
Yes. I'm getting "This product can't be shipped to the selected country"
@tasinnazir7509 have you turned off VPN and logged into your Aliexpress account? If so I recommend messaging the store via Aliexpress.
Tried it through incognito. Got to checkout and PayPal. Then order was closed due to "security concerns"
@tasinnazir7509 have you tried on laptop/pc instead of mobile?
at the end you mentioned a "split layout leverless controller" does that mean the movement and keys are on different boards?
No, the movement and keys are further apart and there is a jump button on each side. Look up the Tikitaka split layout on aliexpress.
Not sure if it’s still on the way though since the seller has been ghosting me.
@@VidVayder thank you!
Wow. Where are you finding this art? and how do you do it?
I found both pieces of art on Deviantart website.
On the Haute42 discord channel you can download the controller template. Open it in Photoshop and place the art under the template, print it and then cut the lines.
In my G16 review I show the process better.
@@VidVayder thanks man. That’s awesome
where did u get the artwork printed out?
I printed it at my local printing shop. You should be able to find some near you on google. In my G16 video I go through the process a bit more, and there is also a link in the description of the G16 video for a detailed guide that I used: ua-cam.com/video/wonmAhQ7DUY/v-deo.html
Note: I went for 160gsm paper for this R16 print. 200gsm was too thick for me to handle (which is recommended in the artwork modding guide).
@@VidVayder thank u so much, that's very appreciated 💕💕
No problem. Good luck on your mod!
What is the difference between t16 and r16?are the size is the same?
Size is very similar. R16 has button rims, crystal switches and I think new buttons. T16 uses Kailh low profile red switches, no button rims. I think T16 Pro has crystal switches though. I recommend the R16, it’s newer and feels great.
its a rasp berry pi pico if you wanna know
Thank you. Will address this in my M16 Plus video 🙏
@@VidVayder Not to be that guy but this is isn't completely accurate! To clarify, RP2040 is a microcrontroller made by raspberry pi. This microcontroller is used IN the raspberry pi pico circuit board which is a microcontroller board made by raspberry pi. But the pi pico and the RP2040 are not the same thing. The RP2040 is also used in the custom circuit board for all the haute42 boards. And GP2040 is the name of the firmware that is running on the RP2040 microcontroller. Which is why GP2040-CE shows up on the board. It's similar to how your computer says Windows 10 and not Intel Core i7-13700K.
The GP2040-CE firmware COULD be run on a raspberry pi pico board too as it can be run anywhere there is a RP2040 microcontroller but as far as I know haute42 uses custom circuit boards rather than wiring a pico board inside.
Thanks for the info. I promise I did Google the significance of RP2040 and GP2040 and came up with nothing, but my google-fu was probably too weak. I will make sure to address my mistake in the M16 Plus review that I’m working on.
I appreciate the correction 👊
I came across this video right after I got the M16 controller and now I want to return it🥲
M16 or M16 Plus? I’m currently reviewing the Plus and in my opinion, the R16 and M Plus feel and sound different enough to both justify a spot in your collection. If the M16 feels too small and you prefer a larger controller then yeah I think you might want to consider returning. I do prefer bigger controllers though whilst others prefer them smaller.
@@VidVayder The regular M16. I do like it but it is too small for my hands, my other problem with it is that it leaves too many fingerprints since it is full metal. I prefer the design and customization of the s16 but that was too small as well so I ultimately avoided that. I did do my research but that was before the R16 came out, I really wish I would’ve looked into leverless again as this is exactly what I was looking for.
@Rayketsu I agree the smaller ones aren’t too good for my hands either. I have enough trouble with the 16 button ones when it’s the large controllers! I like the G16 for the feel and sound but it’s hard to play SF6 whilst avoiding the extra button next to jump.
@@VidVayder Yeah definitely agree. I primarily play Tekken so I’m currently in the process of rebinding my buttons to have to big jump be left and the one to the right of it be right. Since I won’t be pressing up as much as you would in SF6, I don’t have a problem using the top button instead
