It’s been a month since you posted this? Which do you find you prefer the button size/layout more, the R16 or M16+?
Hey, no worries I appreciate you watching and hope they're helpful :) Maybe one thing that will sway you is the slide technique? It's much easier on the M Plus. You can almost do it in any way you want. With the R16 if you want to slide, it's difficult unless you do it with a particular part of your finger or you angle your finger slightly. The button spacing is slightly wider apart on the M16+ compared to R16. I find that I don't have to stretch my hands as much with the R16. Having said that, I still use the M16+ a lot because I've gotten used to the spacing. The pressable part of the R16 buttons are smaller, but including the rims the total diameter is about the same as the M16+ button cap. Great review. I was waiting for someone to do a thorough comparison between the M16 Plus and Kitsune. I currently have a Kitsune but am in the market for a 16 button layout. I was worried that the quality of the M16 Plus wouldn't stack up but it sounds like it does. A couple of quick questions: (1) Do the caps feel significantly higher than Kitsune's caps? And (2) is the M16 Plus compatible with Keychron low-profile switches? Thanks in advance.
In terms of build, the M16 Plus definitely stacks up. The act of playing with the controller feels robust and tactile, but the Kitsune does beat it on bells and whistles (the different shaped function buttons, edge lighting and tournament lock). 1) The keycaps don't feel significantly higher than the Kitsune caps. I just placed them side by side on the table. The keycaps look like the same height to the naked eye, and the Kitsune is also slightly thicker, so you would have to raise your hands higher if it's on a desk or your lap. I think to my fingers they seem lower when I do sliding, but in reality it's very close. I also just noticed something about the Kitsune keycaps... some of the buttons are slanted, like they're not sitting on the switches properly. This may be due to heavy use... check yours too and let me know if they're the same. I can't seem to push mine in. 2) This I don't know as I don't have any of the Keychron low-profile switches, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to find that info somewhere. The Crystal/Wind switches are quite new but I think they might be interchangeable with the Kailh Reds on the T16?? Info on those should be quite easy to source. Let me know how you get on with that. EDIT: I just pulled off the keycaps from both to take a closer look. The M Plus keycaps are about 1 or 2 mm higher, so it's not significant, but it's there.
@@VidVayder I guess an easy way to find out is to see if the Kitsune switches can fit the M16, as Keychron low-profiles and the Kitsune stock switches are nearly identical. In any case, I do appreciate the quick response. I'll likely buy mine once I get back from Evo next week. Thanks! 🙏🏼
@@ciscorey6520 I just pulled out one of the Kitsune switches, the connectors are completely different. But then the Razer switches are optical, not sure about the Keychron ones you mentioned. Have fun at Evo bro!
@@VidVayder Cool. I may have to invest in the Wind Engine switches then. I do recommend trying those Keychron low-profile brown switches on your Kitsune though. You get 87 of them for about $25 and they feel considerably better than the stock switches-especially if you like that tactile bump feel. And thanks, I'll try to win a few sets for the team! :)
Yeah I'm very glad that they went and iterated on things. The R16 could have just been a T16 with rims and a change in layout. It's cool that they made changes to the buttons and updated the stock switches.
For my print, cut and delivery it was 30 euro (delivered to UK), which I think is money well spent since I have done it myself before and it was difficult and time consuming. With a design it’s extra. But I would encourage you to speak to them. Very friendly and responsive.
Ngl I’ve been really stuck between the R16 and M16+. I’ve looked at tons of reviews but I’m not really sure. The R being cheaper and the L3 button being the pinky are really the selling points to me, but the quality of the M seems much better… any advice?
From the sounds of it, the R16 is right for you. After modding your art and splash screen I think you would love it. But ideally, both 😂 get R16 first and go for M if you can’t stop thinking about it. They’re both good in different ways as you’ve gathered.
Thank you! I personally use L2 for Drive Impact, but manually press two buttons for parry and throw. I talk a bit about it here: ua-cam.com/video/Vxx7Y_-OSAM/v-deo.html On a 16 button controller like the M Plus I think it could be a good idea to put parry on RS (the button below medium kick), and throw on LS (the button above light punch). I haven't tried it but it looks like it can be a good idea. If you put Drive Impact on RS and accidentally press it the punish can be devastating.
Can't you just plug the Brooks adapter into the end of the cable running into the PS5? Or does that big ass adapter have to be hanging out the top of the M16?
You can yes, it depends on your setup bro. Examples: 1. Do you want the dongle jutting out of your console? (Kids/pets might knock it) 2. Would the Brook be in the way of the USBC next to it? My bluetooth headphone dongle blocks off the USB A socket for example. 3. Are you willing to plug everything in every time you want to play fighting games? On my setup, I have a long cable plugged into the back of my PS5 permanently, and it’s routed and tucked away (clean and tidy). When I want to use a fightstick, I just slide open a little door, take the end of the cable and plug it into my fight stick which already has the Booter 5 dongle plugged in. Haute42 also recommends to plug dongles directly into the EXT port, could be for latency issues? But to answer your question, yes you can use a Brook. The Brook even has a helpful USB A socket for controllers that don’t have an EXT port. But the question is, are you OK with the footprint/size of the Brook?
Just asking, does the booster work for P.C play? The listing for AliExpress just mentions PS5 so as it's £22 alone, if it's not usable on the P.C I'll just stick to the M16 and using the USB c cable provided.
If i have the t16 and love it, which i do, do you see any reason to get the r16 or m plus? I was thinking abt m plus only because i know it will feel more premium but id lose the art of my t16. I mainly want to try it because the few creaks you get with the acylic sticks is a tad annoying
I assume you tightened your screws a bit after modding your T16 art, and the creaks still bother you? In that case, the M Plus would justify a spot in your collection. Maybe go for an M12 Plus in silver? That way they will be different enough for you to use one depending on your mood. And as mentioned in my review, if you don’t mind hiding the RGB, the Wind Engine switches do feel and sound different enough for a change as well. The only reason I would get an R16 in your situation is if you have a nice display for your controllers and you can show off the art in your setup, so it acts like an art frame when you’re not using them :)
If I had the choice I would go silver. And yes at first it feels cold but warms up as you play. The 3m cable depends on how far you sit from the screen. Btw the Wind Engine switches is currently on sale you might want to consider those too.
Trying to decide between this and the r16. I want the additional buttons but can go either way with the position of the L3 button. I play on my lap and I dont plan on modding it. Is the button height on the m16 lower than the r16 and are they the same size ? Thanks
The buttons on the M16 look like they’re 1mm taller, which is practically nothing. The M16 is a very slightly taller controller but I use both on my lap and both are comfortable. The dimensions are very similar, both gorgeously large. If you were asking about the button sizes, then the M buttons are bigger. The rims on R16 make them look a similar size though. Hope all that makes sense!
Many thanks for the video 😊. Maybe you will be able to help me : I have 2 Haute 42 T16 and I'm so annoyed because with the Mayflash Magic Boot PS4 1.1 and the Brook wingman converter I have some trouble on my PS5... But I don't understand why, with both (controllers and converters) I have totally random disconnections on my PS5 on Tekken 8...😭 I checked many time the GP 2040 settings that are sdt on PS5 mode+arcade stick and I have the lastest firmware on them but it is still disconnecting sooner or later... It can take 2 hours or 5 minutes with both of my controllers and usb converter but it is not consistant. I don't know if I should buy the converter you use in this video... If you have some advices that would be very kind. 😅
Do you play on your lap or table? My M Plus was disconnecting a few times, and I realised it was because the USB C cable I was using stuck out too far. It would sometimes get loose or I would nudge it on my lap. I tried playing with a right angled USB C cable (the newer Haute42 models come with one) and it did not happen again so far. If you have a right angled USBC, try that first before buying the Booter 5. There is also someone on the Haute42 Discord with a similar issue to you and they're still trying to figure it out.
@@VidVayder Thx for the reply bro. 😀I play on my laps. First I played with the USB C cable (Normal sold with the T16 not right angled) with a USB extension and when I started to have disconnections I changed and used my Dual Sense Edge cable (offcial Sony Cable) that were also longer so no need of extension but it changed nothing... I will give a try with a right angled USBC cable as you suggested, maybe it will work... I hope so... I modified a PS4 Hori RAP as a hit box and never had any disconnection on T8, the same with a Nacon Raija (also licenced PS4 official AS)... Looks so random like the firmware was unstable on my PS5. When it disconnect, sometime it changes randomly the SOCD mode and also the stick mode (from d pad to right stick for example)... Very strange and so annoying to be honnest...😔
@@ogamitaicho77 Hmm, to me that doesn't really sound like a USBC issue because even if the USB disconnects, the settings should stay the same. It very well could be the Mayflash/Brook Wingman having issues, or the PCB itself messing up. Hopefully it is the USB issue though. Fingers crossed for you 🤞
@@VidVayder Yeah I hope so. As I have 2 models of T16, I tested many configurations as possible, I alternated the different USB converters and even different USB ports on the PS5. The strangest is that I have this trouble on my 2 T16... One was bought on Ali Express on January and the other one on amazon 3 monthes ago. Strange that these 2 have more or less same PCB problems... The worst is that my first T16 model worked perfectly during 2 monthes... Maybe it's my PS5 (1rst launch model), For some reasons, I intend to buy a PS5 Pro on release, maybe it will solve the problem. I may give a longer try on SF6 or GG Strive to check if it's simple not coming from the game itself and a Tekken 8 latest update. Since T8 is released, to be honnest I did not played that much other fighting games... 😅 I have seen that the hit box brand will release new buttons very soon similar as these Haute 42 Leverless. Maybe I give try and set it on my modified Hori RAP4 that works well on my PS5bbecause the Sanwa buttons are making so much noise comparing low profile... 😅. It is a metal pannel bought on Jasen Customs website so it may be compatible.
Is this suitable for WASD play for platform fighters? I've been curious about this layout since it mimics it and buttons can be remapped for different profiles, but the buttons look large and not sure how comfortable it would be with that great of a distance for the middle finger.
I don’t play platform fighters so can’t report on that, but it is already setup as WASD by default (jump button above the direction buttons on the left). If the buttons look too bit for you (I personally don’t think the spacing is that big, certainly not as spaced out as Kitsune) look at my review for the Tikitaka controller. The spacing feels smaller on that. They do a deluxe model and aluminium model too.
Hey, the standard versions are smaller (if it doesn't say Plus). If you mean the M12 Plus, then it's the same as the one I reviewed except it has 12 buttons instead of 16 buttons. You can find the M12 Plus listing in the same page as M16 Plus page, but you have to click on the little squares to change the item. You can get a detailed breakdown of each model on their website: M details: haute42.com M Plus details: cosmoxgaming.com
Yeah it does catch, but have you tried my suggestion of using the joint instead of the tip of your finger? Another option is to angle your wrist out so your finger is sliding downwards but across the buttons.
I disagree I think the optical switches on the Kitsune are better as being an owner of both Haute42 R16 and M16. Will be testing out the wind engines soon
This one is not wireless, but wireless ones do exist (I reviewed one on my channel called Maestro S3). Wireless is fine for labbing and arcade mode but if you’re playing competitively or at locals I would advise you to plug in anyway. Just my opinion of course!
Ah ok. Well even the wireless S3 can be plugged in as an option. If you’re on PS5 you will need a Brook Wingman though. The S3 doesn’t have an external port for dongles. I don’t know of any other wireless leverless controllers at the moment.
This is what I found on the GP2040 website: "Choose the default SOCD Cleaning Mode (Neutral, Last Win, First Win, OFF). Please note that PS4, PS3 and Nintendo Switch modes do not support setting SOCD to off and will default to Neutral SOCD." I play SF6 so I haven't tried the other modes, I just keep mine on Neutral.
Try Up Priority Mode: HOME + START + UP (according to the instruction manual) If that doesn't work try Last Input Priority: HOME + START + LEFT I usually leave mine on Neutral so I'm not certain about this.
if the kitsune had the extra buttons, it would be the best controller. Kitsune has the best buttons and feels so nice. The m16 feels really good though.
The Kitsune is nice in its own way for sure. Definitely not a bad controller, but I find it hard to go back to now after using the Haute42 controllers. It’s mostly down to the switches and the activation force I prefer. I should probably try some different switches on my Kitsune.
Someone made it for me. I got the Mai image from Deviantart so you can grab it from there too and make your own design. Alternatively you can ask one of the designers in the Cosmox Discord channel to do a design for you. Their prices are reasonable.
I almost like the s16 more. The compact size of the buttons make it fit a more natural hand placement then the slightly more spaced out version on the m16. Maybe it’s me? Also the s16 sounds better stock then the m16 imo
No I'm sure there are plenty who prefer the smaller models too. I find the G16 (I don't have the S) hard to play on because my thumb hits the R3 button by accident, because of the way I use it (probably not a problem for some other players like yourself). However, I do like the sound of the G series as well. I think it's possibly cos they're more compact, and it's harder to make the large controllers sound good? For my preference the M Plus sounds better than any other leverless I've tried so far though.

Nice video. Whats the shelf you use to store your leverless controllers there?
Thanks. It’s a paper rack. Check my pinned comment the link is there.
@@VidVayder thanks. Missed that. I have 4 haute42 controllers and a Kitsune and never thought of using something like that to store them. Great rec.
@MikhailMadnani got a nice collection going! Temper your expectations for the rack since it was originally designed for paper :)
@@VidVayder I just got something similar from Ikea since I couldn't find the one you linked locally.
@MikhailMadnani nice. Does it work well?
After trying the smaller buttons of the R16 the T16 just feels clunky and less smooth when pressed. The bigger caps just make it feel much heavier.
Yeah I'm very glad that they went and iterated on things. The R16 could have just been a T16 with rims and a change in layout. It's cool that they made changes to the buttons and updated the stock switches.
Just got mine last week and love it. How much was the AyanoAyre service? I’ve been thinking of checking them out for a design.
For my print, cut and delivery it was 30 euro (delivered to UK), which I think is money well spent since I have done it myself before and it was difficult and time consuming.
With a design it’s extra. But I would encourage you to speak to them. Very friendly and responsive.
Let's go! 🔥
👊
Sick as always 🔥
Thanks bro 👊
I learnt a new word today, "Chamfered".
Haha! Hope you get to use it soon mate.
Where did you get that shelf you have them on?
It’s from Amazon UK. It’s a paper rack and the link should be in the description of the video.
@@VidVayder Yessss. thank you.
Man i wish the silver m16+ were stocked
The silver does look sick man.
I need an Angel version
Fantastic review video! By the way, what are recommended setting for parry, drive impact and throw button when playing SF6?
Thank you! I personally use L2 for Drive Impact, but manually press two buttons for parry and throw. I talk a bit about it here: ua-cam.com/video/Vxx7Y_-OSAM/v-deo.html
On a 16 button controller like the M Plus I think it could be a good idea to put parry on RS (the button below medium kick), and throw on LS (the button above light punch). I haven't tried it but it looks like it can be a good idea. If you put Drive Impact on RS and accidentally press it the punish can be devastating.
@@VidVayder Thanks so much for your suggestions!! That's really helpful!!
Can't you just plug the Brooks adapter into the end of the cable running into the PS5? Or does that big ass adapter have to be hanging out the top of the M16?
You can yes, it depends on your setup bro. Examples:
1. Do you want the dongle jutting out of your console? (Kids/pets might knock it)
The Booter 5 is only required for PS5 play. For PC, Switch and PS4 you only need to change the mode by holding one of the buttons when plugging it in.
@@VidVayder what about xbox?
Should I get the black or silver one is it cold when you play?
and 3m hyperlight usb necessary or not
If I had the choice I would go silver.
Fingers crossed for you
🤞
I don’t recall if you mentioned this but have you updated the firmware?
Can you slide with the haute42?
Yes sliding is excellent with the Haute42.
How smooth is the new caps compared to the m16+ stock caps?
They feel the same to me. Just different colour.
Hey I just wanted to ask if the M12 is exactly like the M16 plus but with less buttons? I can’t find it in Ali express
You can get a detailed breakdown of each model on their website:
M details: haute42.com
M Plus details: cosmoxgaming.com
@@VidVayder Yeah I meant the M12 plus, thank you.
i wish the r16 buttons was not that high. i cant sweep over the buttons without getting caught between.
Yeah it does catch, but have you tried my suggestion of using the joint instead of the tip of your finger?
Another option is to angle your wrist out so your finger is sliding downwards but across the buttons.
That's early for Mai 😂😂..
You can tell I'm excited for her arrival!
Hi. are the crystal axis basically default switches for haute42 M series?
Yes the Crystal Switches are stock (pre installed) on the M Plus. On the smaller M models it is Kailh Red low profile switches.
@@VidVayder hi. thanks for your reply. how about the button? I bought the wind engine switches for modding already but struggling to choose m and m+.
Go for M+. Larger controllers are easier to use.
And yeah the stock buttons on the M+ feel really good.
I disagree I think the optical switches on the Kitsune are better as being an owner of both Haute42 R16 and M16. Will be testing out the wind engines soon
That's fair bro. It's all preference at the end of the day isn't it. I'm just glad that the options are growing so we can fine tune our experience.
@@VidVayder absolutely! I do agree, for the price that the M16 is a very exceptional leverless controller! I think it is well worth what you paid for
I'm new to hitboxes and I'm wondering if I can play wireless with this thing. Or should it be always connected to power supply?
This one is not wireless, but wireless ones do exist (I reviewed one on my channel called Maestro S3).
Wireless is fine for labbing and arcade mode but if you’re playing competitively or at locals I would advise you to plug in anyway. Just my opinion of course!
@@VidVayder I was planning to play online anyway 😂
Ah ok. Well even the wireless S3 can be plugged in as an option. If you’re on PS5 you will need a Brook Wingman though. The S3 doesn’t have an external port for dongles.
I don’t know of any other wireless leverless controllers at the moment.
What is about socd in the m16...? Is the right and left neutral or what
This is what I found on the GP2040 website: "Choose the default SOCD Cleaning Mode (Neutral, Last Win, First Win, OFF). Please note that PS4, PS3 and Nintendo Switch modes do not support setting SOCD to off and will default to Neutral SOCD."
I play SF6 so I haven't tried the other modes, I just keep mine on Neutral.
Hey do you know how to change the socd to were if you hold down and press up it does the flash kick
Try Up Priority Mode:
HOME + START + UP (according to the instruction manual)
If that doesn't work try Last Input Priority:
HOME + START + LEFT
I usually leave mine on Neutral so I'm not certain about this.
I have that hitbox, the way the soft touch on the button is makes my execution a little harder but its still amazing tho!
Bro I thought you had 2500 MR, I almost spit out my drink
Haha nah I got to Masters and just get bodied by my mates all day. Maybe one day if I have time I will do some rank again!
if the kitsune had the extra buttons, it would be the best controller.
Is the M12 are the same but less buttons?
M12 Plus, yes. But M12 without the Plus, no. There are two sizes, M and M Plus. The M Plus is the newer, larger one that I have reviewed here.
Where did you get that skin from exactly?
Someone made it for me. I got the Mai image from Deviantart so you can grab it from there too and make your own design. Alternatively you can ask one of the designers in the Cosmox Discord channel to do a design for you. Their prices are reasonable.
@@VidVayder thanks bud
Anybody know where I could find a business that makes inserts for mine?
Check out the Haute42/Cosmox discord and find the marketplace channel. Ask around there 👍
I almost like the s16 more.
99 pound ?! I had it for almost 140 euro
The price fluctuates, and take into account exchange rate. £99 is roughly the average price.
