I'm genuinely confused what is up with hating on wikipedia for research so much. Especially when most wikipedia pages are just a mass collection of cited articles.
It's even worse cause when you ask these people how they do research. It turns out they just don't or they watch a bunch of clips and youtube videos to come up with their opinions with no actual backing to them
because its an easy way to dismiss someone without addressing any of their arguments
People don't research anything and then when someone points out they haven't even read the first paragraphs of the Wikipedia article, they get defensive and vaguely remember a teacher saying you can't cite Wikipedia in a paper.
Going to Wikipedia for a “source” is just as dumb as you saying others using UA-cam for their “source” is dumb.
Wikipedia is just a curation of information on a given topic, typing or searching for something on UA-cam is the same thing.
Edit! to prove my point. take a historcial event, any event. go to the wiki page about it. I bet it is close to accurate., and wiki gets its info from a bunch of other cited sources.

I am seeing a lot of comments confused about Dan ( the smiling guy ).
He is one of Destiny's best friend, they have been friends for more than a decade. He is also a regular part of the community, chats in DGG chat and played games with Destiny (lots of memes there) He was the co-founder of Tinychat, sold it and now lives a semi retirement kind of lifestyle. Dan and Destiny had a podcast before called 'Startups' and wanted to create another podcast for a long time.
Almost all long-term Destiny fans love Dan and are happy that the podcast is finally happening.

@@Yuh_mama Destiny doesn't judge other people by their missing credentials. Otherwise, Destiny is way sharper and smarter than Rogan, in particular in that he understands and judges his limitations and his strengths (and those of other people) pretty accurately almost all of the time.

I hate when people pressure others to do stuff like drink, do drugs, eat indulgent food, whatever… it’s one thing to say “You sure?” and move on if they still don’t want to partake. But stop trying to say that saying no reflects badly on them. It reflects badly on you and your inability to act for yourself. They aren’t controlling what you do. Give them the same respect back.
Dan and Steven know each other and likely have a better sense of each other’s boundaries so it’s less about him in particular and more about it reminding me of so many other circumstances. If you can’t enjoy what you are doing without others doing the same, that’s on you.

Also, I think you are under the impression that I ment "contrarian" as an insult, Im a contrarian, I like debate and verbal logic puzzles, its fun to defend the other side and you also learn while doing it, I think Destiny atracts a lot of these kinds of people, me included, who are interested in debate for debate's sake and who are under the assumption that they dont hold all the knowledge in the world and that other people probably are right on all kinds of issues

He put together a podcast with Erudite called Bridges, where they interview notable political figures. It has its own channel called Bridges Podcast, and there’s usually a new episode every month, but there have only been 3 so far. This podcast here with Dan is using the same setup as Bridges but it is something else, and the episodes will be posted on this channel

And at the time, I KNEW that Joe was sliding into the anti-Woke / low-key right wing rabbit hole himself (and back then, I was loving him for it, as I was having the exact same political journey). It's funny because people don't realize that using a General Source like Wikipedia is actually a really good thing. It gives you broad context into an issue to ensure you're not just given cherry-picked facts to support a specific narrative. But it's also important to validate the specific claims within a General Source by reading the primary sources. People make fun of him with the "Wiki Warrior" label as a way of poisoning the well (or memeing), but Destiny does a pretty good job researching and arguing.

It's threefold:
1) they just have the thought-terminating position that "Wikipedia is a bad source" which means to them that any information hosted on the site should be discarded immediately.
2) they genuinely believe the narrative being pushed by opponents of Destiny that he only read the Wikipedia articles and never touch a single reliable primary or secondary source.
3) none of the above matters because first and foremost the "criticism" is only used to avoid engaging with any of his actual statements or arguments.
I was in a bunch of different online arguments after the Finkelstein debate, and every single person who was using the "only Wikipedia lolol" talking point, and who actually replied enough to have a conversation with me, admitted that they hadn't actually watched the debate in full and were only basing it off of the clips they'd seen, and the unwarranted charitability given to Finkelstein paired with unwarranted spite toward Destiny. Anecdotal, I know, but point is I guarantee most of them haven't even watched the debate in the first place.
there are definitively wikipedia pages with cherry picked facts to support a narrative, there's a massive political bubble on wikipedia but that doesn't make it bad, just flawed
