this is really interesting.... there seems to be 7 unique footstep sounds for each surface (not counting metal mario and shallow water steps)...... what i'd really like to see is a hack that assigns a color to each of the 7 step sounds and accordingly shades each surface based on what sound it makes. a lot of them are unintuitive, like how outside of the castle the sides of the cannon platform make a different sound than the top, and how the sand uses the stone sound, so it'd be cool to see them visualized rather than just having to test each surface individually by stepping on them and listening...... i've got no idea how to do such a thing tho lol
