Absolutely love this 🥰 I have been trying to have the bluebirds come to my feeders without any success. I have 2 types of bluebird feeders and they won't go on them . The babies the had do feed on the ground while mama and papa watch. I will try to do what you're doing . I know they are use to seeing me around the yard . Thank you for such a wonderful video 😘
once they associate you with food and you have a call and a dish you can get them to eat everywhere... I have a few more videos on feeding them with a different bluebird feeder..Look around for it....I think i made one in 2020 or 2019...I never got a pair this year to film.
Thank you! Sweet dad feeding mom. A month ago i started “farming” mealworms!!! I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying the process! Hope my mom n dad will train quickly as mom has been incubating eggs for a few days now. When I set mealworms out other birds enjoy the feast 🙄
What a blight on a perfect "bluebird feeding morn" - the neighbors with their their wretched leafblower, chainsaw, maybe. Birds may be used to it - I AM NOT. However, enjoyed your video. Thanks.
5:20 😍 cutest. I’ve got new blue birds trying to check out a house I placed in the yard but the mocking bird is chasing them away every time 🥺 Thank you for sharing.
Awe wish I could get a pair of blues. I’ve had a nest box up 3 mo. no bluebirds only once back in oct when they drank out of the bird bath. I have a pair of mockingbirds who gobble up the mealworms as soon as I put them out. How am I ever going to get bluebirds since these mockingbirds are so territorial and chase all the other birds away except the finches and CA Towhee.
Habitat is the key... Bluebirds are RARE where I live.. You can only find them on golf courses where people put up boxes..My place sits on the edge of undeveloped cut grass. They use this area as a migration/feed route..I never get more than one pair one year I had two...
I have been raising these beautiful birds for about five years, in my front yard tree. Feeding jumbo meal worms now, because all the birds are adults. When the babys start hatching i will go back to the smaller worms. They know me and if they are hungry they will let me know. I get about three clutches a year sometimes four. Average three to four birds per clutch. Thanks for sharing this video.
I have had Bluebirds for about 15 years now. I have never had more than one clutch or more than one pair. Some years I get a female that just doesn't seem to know what she's doing and She lays only two eggs and that's about it. I suspect this past year the male got a new mate after the old ones screwed up to clutches. Some years I only get a male that can't find a female. I live in an area where bluebirds are very uncommon. And I work extremely hard to try to maintain what is here
Hey crzrck We live in California and in all my life had never seen a bluebird, until 2015, Iam 67 now, anyway my first pair i called them Ma and Pa they living in a abandon woodpecker hole. So my son gave a bluebird box for my birthday and i put it up over the woodpecker hole. The took to it right away, I didn't know at the time about meal worms ,so i was finding bugs in my garden to feed them. These two were the best they told me if there a cat or a squirrel in the yard they would follow me around the yard. They were chased of by a younger pair , man that hurt. But i just had to take care of the new ones.
@@jackgilbert1264 you must have Western bluebirds then. I'm sure they could use your help. I raise mealworms now I have plenty throughout summer months
@@crzrck I tried putting the box out on the front lawn at first , they went to it but really did not like it there. Moved it to the tree and success.Right now I have eight birds feeding, the mating pair and off springs. These birds can catch bugs in flight, so i toss the worms to them in the air and they catch them.
Awesome video! Though I do have a question for you: When you walk up to put more mealworms onto the feeder, do you gently knock on the box and say ''Room service!"?
Fritz Jagr , this is how I initially train them. After this I can put that little tray anywhere. I typically use a fence post. I don't do bed and breakfast
I started trying to tame the bluebirds at my parents' house. They don't come when called but they do show up daily promptly at 11 am and 3pm for their mealworms.
It's very simple to do if they're already coming at predictable times. Go out there with mealworms at those times and whistle a specific whistle or have a specific call. They will associate that with food after a few times. If you leave mealworms in there all the time that's not going to happen. Take the mealworms away and then do it. It's just simple operant conditioning like Pavlov's dogs
Yes. Call nature Unlimited voicemail 260 593 0610 extension 1.. tell them you want a Gilbertson bluebird house. And tell them that Rick Cruz sent you. These are my Amish friends. They will know what you're looking for thank you
They do love those mealworms! So sweet seeing him feed her. I've seen Cardinals do this but until now never have seen bluebirds di that. So cute!
I only feed them live mealworms I raise my own
Harbor Freight magnetic tool tray is next-level genius

If they want the Box badly enough they will take it. Mockingbirds are not Nest site competitors. They will eventually reach a stalemate
Love it at 5:18 when the male force feeds the female. Lol
Cuties.
