    Do you ever use braided line when shooting docks? I use hi vis 4 lb mono line. I broke off several times on Hartwell on Monday. Was thinking of trying braid to see how well the line comes off to get back under the pontoons and docks.

      Forgot to say...good video, keep them coming.when you shoot under there and let it fall watch your line for that tick,I'm a line watcher,takes time to figure it all out.Lot of the time the bigger crappie will be under the smaller ones,closer to the bottom.

    can you explain how to set up the side imaging to show the crappie with black background and not faded into the ground? like at 2:03 you can see the the crappie very distinctly and i can not figure out how to set the side imaging to these settings. The black is supposed to be the water in between the transducer and the ground due to the angle, so does that mean you just angle the transducer more to the side or is there a setting for that?? sorry if this is a dumb question but im new to the marine electronics

    What’s the max wind speed u can shoot the docks in. I imagine not much more than 10mph....would affect boat position

    • @ClearWaterCrappie
      @ClearWaterCrappie  5 років тому

      WILTmusic you can shoot docks in as high of winds as you can stand it. When it is extremely windy and if i have somebody with me, I will run the trolling motor and just let them shoot the dock. You usually have to use a heavier jighead to even attempt it. But you are basically right, anything over 10mph and I sleep in! Thank you for watching!

    I know you say 7' rod and 6lb line but what about the action which is better a medium light or medium etc?

    • @ClearWaterCrappie
      @ClearWaterCrappie  5 років тому

      209chevymon medium light is my preference. It is MUCH more sensitive than a medium, and it also varies rod to rod too. The southern crappie rod I was using in the video is a medium light. If you even want more sensitivity use 4lb line, but it just sinks quicker than 6lb.

    • @209chevymon
      @209chevymon 5 років тому

      So why not light or ultra light?

    • @ClearWaterCrappie
      @ClearWaterCrappie  5 років тому

      209chevymon 2lb+ fish aren’t uncommon under docks around here, so I found a happy medium where I can feel a bluegill bite with ease but yet flip a 2lb donkey in the boat. It’s ultimately what you are comfortable with though!

    Love these types of videos! Great look of fish under dock(s) on electronics- in fact best I have seen. Do you always depend on seeing fish on electronics before you fish a particular dock or will you sometimes fish a dock even if you are not seeing fish on electronics? Another comment mentioned your particular settings - I am curious as well. I have a 899 SI combo that I have used, but have not seen nearly as good return(s) as you showed. That said, unit in video is a newer unit with a bigger screen than mine. Lastly - is there a particular knot you use to tie on jig? Again- great video. Thanks for sharing.

    Great video , thanks for sharing.Any chance you can share the correct model number for the 7 ft rod you are using , medium action, etc.
    Also it appears they have to be purchase online. Do you know of any retailers or tackle stores that sell them. I am in Gaston County/Lake Wylie area.

      Rockfisher the model number is SCR71. I think Ed (southern crappie rod owner) is out of stock of those. If you are near lake Wylie you aren’t far from his shop near concord NC. His website has his contact info!

    • @ClearWaterCrappie

      William Parish in my personal experience the muddier and murkier the water is on a “clear water” lake, the fish will totally leave the locations they typically are until conditions go back to normal. Now is spring in muddy water you bet I’m using a bright color! Thank you for your feeback and for watching!

    Here's my take on this. My relatives feed the fish to keep them around their docks. And yet others come harvest the damn fish they have fed and bulked up for the kids to catch NOT for strangers to come by and reap what my relatives have worked and paid for their kids to enjoy. Another thing how comfortable would you leave to work with strangers around your boat and docks.

    What kind of reel do you use and how light of line?

    • @ClearWaterCrappie

      Tim Fisher generally any reel that is suitable for 4-6lb test line with a smooth drag. I like the abu Garcia cardinal series reel. For shooting docks I use 6lb stren clear mono.
