    Thank you for this. I'm glad you put this on UA-cam, I wish my grandma could've captured her old recipes on UA-cam, they are lost forever. A lot of younger people like me never learned canning, it's becoming a lost art. We need videos like this to remember and preserve recipes.

    Thank you for this. I am canning for the first time and I just used this to can my juice. I was so glad to find a simple "grandma's way" type video, I appreciate this a lot more than the longer higher definition videos I had to sit through before finding this. (I did add the lemon juice, but otherwise did exactly as you did.) Here's to another 30 years of this method working!

    If it’s good enough for grandmother it’s the best for us all! Thank you 🙏 Dear for this. My youngest son has brought home a tomato 🍅 plant for pass 3 years at school. Two of those years I have been giving away tomato’s. It just hit me how much my family loves Macaroni and Tomato juice with hamburger meat, fire roasted diced tomato’s, plenty of pepper, butter and peppercinis and some of the peppercinis juice. Delicious 😋, and that’s store bought, I can only imagine the taste of Homemade juice! Love and Light!!

    I make delicious tomato juice from one 6 oz can of organic tomato paste (I use Costco Kirkland or Whole Foods 360). I add 6 cups of water and 1 heaping tablespoon of celery salt. Mix well, refrigerate and enjoy.

      For many years I didn't either, because my grandmother didn't and I had no idea until someone else gave me that tip. It always bothered me that most of the time the rings would start rusting and would leave a rust ring around the threads of the jar, but taking them off solved that problem. Thank you for your video. I tried to make a batch (and unfortunately added the lemon juice in. Bleh!). I saw my juice separate and wanted it to stay thick looking. How did you keep your tomato juice from separating?

    • @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot
      @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot  4 роки тому

      My juice does separate a little after sitting for a long while, just not much. Canning recipes normally just have you draining the fluid off the cooked tomatoes, However, during the straining process, the more pulp that is pushed through the strainer, the thicker the juice will be and with less separation. Personally, I mash as much through as I can, normally only having a small amount of skin and seeds as waste. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching!

      There is nothing wrong with separating, you should just shake the jar/bottle/can vigorously before use and it will mix together right back.

      @@urosmarjanovic663 This is true. I've had other's tomato juice that separates and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it... it was delicious. I stay confused about canning and water bathing times. I live in an area of 4475-5000’ altitude. Can anyone tell me the correct amount of time for my altitude. I tried looking it up, but I guess I’m just dumb. I raw packed homegrown tomatoes today. 7 quarts and 3 pints plus 4 pints of juice. I did the water bath for 110 minutes. I salted the tomatoes slightly before putting them in jars and added some citric acid. I did a batch of pint tomatoes a week ago and only did them for 45 minutes. Now, I’m wondering if I should throw them out. I wish I had a canning buddy.

    If I wanted to make the juice but not can for long term storage, could I skip the boiling in the jar part? And how long would it stay fresh in the refrigerator? I only have enough tomatoes left to make one jar for Bloody Mary's

    • @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot
      @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can skip the boiling if you are not planning on storing. If you put the seal and ring on while the jar is warm, you may still get a "seal", but, it's not safe for long term. However, if you refrigerate, it should last for a couple of weeks or maybe longer, depending on the temp of your fridge. I can only guess on that, my juice is used too quickly to test that time. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching! Have a blessed day!

    • @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot
      @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot  6 років тому +1

      Brett White I prefer Beefsteak or Better boy tomatoes because they are larger, meaty and full of juice. However, any medium to large tomatoes will work. In this video I don't know exactly what they were, I failed to ask, we just call them field tomatoes. We live in an area where there is an abundance of tomato farmers and these were a gift from one of them. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching! Have a blessed day!

    How long does homemade tomato sauce last for that have been canned and still sealed tight?thank you

    • @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot
      @OurresourcefulhomeBlogspot  6 років тому +2

      According to the USDA guidelines: if it is canned properly and kept in a cool, dark place, they should last at least 1 year. Disclaimer~ this is not guidelines, but my own personal experience: the longest I've had any in storage was 4 years and none of them went bad, we just used them all. As a child the longest I saw my grandmother store them was 7 years, again none went bad that I know of. You should be able to tell by smell if they're bad when you open them. I hope this helps! Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions. Thank you for watching!!! Have a Blessed day!

Usually if I have any doubt, I throw it out. I'm not sure how to describe the smell of bad tomato sauce, except it smells rotten and unappetizing. I've never had onion or garlic give off a vinegar smell.....maybe the peppers? :)
