The Hero class gets very broken the more spells and ablities it learns, now that I think back on it, maybe I should've put in S tier. Considering that the main selling point of this game, aside from the connection to the prior two games in the series (especially at the time of the original release) was the party system, but it's entirely possible to solo the game with only the hero, yeah the hero probably belongs in S Tier.
I feel like ironically the hero ends up being the best healer of the game. They’re the only one that gets a party full heal. This allows the other 3 members to focus more on dps. With the war drum on the hero this allows them to also buff everyone’s dps. I think Omniheal alone puts them on S tier. They’re okayish at metal farming though its hard to compete with Martial artist critical strike skill 💀 I would even go so far as to call the Hero the real priest of the game 😂
This monster wrangler class is already broken because of monster pile-on's late game scaling, they decided to also give it the ability to act twice per run. Almost sounds ridiculous 😂
The first question any dev should ask themselves when giving a "can attack a second time" ability in the game to a class should be: "Okay, is this character already strong?"
I transferred my Monster Wrangler abilities to a martial artist, and with Monster Pile on and Wild Side he can do ~600 damage per turn. The balance of that is that he's an absolute MP guzzler, you can't keep it up forever
@@excadrillo99 you could always make your MW into a sage with genius or wit specifically so they can have a stupid amount of MP at their disposal for any dungeon !
Or play on Dracky/Can't DIE mode and replace the Hero and use 4x wild side pile ons instead but it still took me a minium ON dracky mode 10 to 14 turns DEPENDING on how many times it puts 1 party member TO sleep to cure it immediately.
I agree with this list. My monster wrangler started as a thief and has the ultimate utility while also being fast and hard hitting. Is definitely a great addition to the game in my opinion.
With the information on the new damage formula and a quick note about the Falcon Blade (bought in Kol) That works with some abilities, but not all. (Works with Hero's elemental Slashes but not Gigaslash, Doesn't work with Sword Dance or Multifist but Does work with Persecutter) I have ~3 main points to discuss. First: Warrior is expensive in the early game, and late game outscaled by MA/Thief/Sage - With how nice Merchant/MW/Thief are as starting classes I Can't see Warrior as anything but a stepping stone to gain STR before Reclassing to something that can Equip the Falcon Blade. It feels a little bad the Iconic DQ Warrior is just outclassed as everything but a Meatshield Second: Overall I think that Separate tier lists for a Casual playthrough and one for Post Game pure optimization would be useful. Casually Priest is great because if you hold off on Reclassing until you learn Multiheal you'll have it available without having to wait for a Sage's slower exp gain in the mid-late game, But Optimally Priest/Mage might as well not exists because of Sage. Similarly Casually Thief is good enough early but kinda falls off, but then Thief gets a huge Spike in the post game because some of their Abilities double hit with the Falcon Blade which Pushes them over the top of Warrior/MA. Third: Love the DQ Content man, keep it up, good job, much love
Damn, I love comments like yours, im glad youre enjoying the content. I agree with pretty much everything you said. On a casual tierlist, the priest would be higher. The warrior being a good tank but outclassed by everything else is what makes him A tier and not S. I dont think he deserves lower since its the best and kind of the only tank class in the game. so it has its place. Especially coupled with skills learned from other classes. The thiefs low atk stat and MA's garanteed crits makes it hard for me to belive that its dps can be higher. But I would be glad to be proven wrong, i love to learn more niche stuff about this game. I'll try it out one day!
Mages have generally better stat growth for casters than Sages do. A thief>mage or sage>mage are both extemely effective late game characters. Meanwhile, priests are pretty mediocre and made entirely obsolete between the hero and sage.
Thats why the priest is in B tier and not A. I dont think it should be in C because of how useful it is in the early game with sap and ailment cleansing, also having the hero as your only healer is rough on harder difficulty ngl.
Monster wrangler to Thief to Martial artist or Warrior. High speed with wild side and multifist or sword dance. That with oomph is insane. Monster pile-on is great but the damage can't get higher with oomph.
True, thats one downside of pile-on, cant get boosted by oomph. Which is why I said that I belivd the martial artist has the highest dps in the game. I recommend to get both a monster pile-on and a wild side MA in your party anyways.
I use thief as a transition between warrior to martial artist or marchant to monster wrangler. MA and marchant are super slow and need to up speed via thief which helps my team to find transures during finding orbs-quest. When they are hitting level 20, you just transition to your final desired vocations.
My final party was going to be a Sage, Martial Artist, and a Warrior. I haven’t gotten far into the game yet so I’m asking if I should change the warrior for a Monster Wrangler?
@@SomerandomguySSJ4Probably stay MW at this point cuz youre wasting exp to go back to a class that you already learned its skills. But if you prefer having a tank or just like the warrior, go ahead!
Merchant is a must character in the early game. Without it, you cannot buy the crazy expensive equipment to fight the boss before the piramid stage. Yet, when you hit the finding orbs, marchant became uselss since the good weapons are not to sell, but to find on the map.I evolved to another career like thief because the marchant is super slow and serve no point in earning money. However, i still need to keep the "service-call skill" to save game or inn to heal my team in dungeon.
My party *Milly-Warrior(leveled up to all abilities)>gadabout (leveled up to all abilities)>Sage *Carver-Priest (leveled up to all spells)>Merchant (leveled up to all abilities plus dropped him off at merchantburg)>Martial Artist *Ruff-Mage (leveled up to all spells)>thief (leveled up to all abilities)>monster wrangler
What was funny about my playthrough of hero/monster wrangler/thief/priest was that at some point I was always moaning about one of them, why aren’t they useful, and then suddenly they’d be pulling weight and somebody else would be nigh useless. But yes, at the end of the game MW just cleared stuff out, and then my sage could transform and well… final boss ded
I will say that while the Mage is a bit down on the tier list, it hasn't felt bad for me to bring one to start. With Hero/Monster Wrangler/Priest/Mage, I have three characters who can do group attacks, and the Mage's Buff + Kabuff spells have been nice in adding protection against harder enemies. Since your characters fully heal both HP and MP on level up's, MP for the Mage has not been an issue for me. Were I to start over I would choose a different class than Mage, probably Thief for that insane and wonderful Agility. (A Thief becoming a Sage later to make a fast Sage is really cool, I've done it before.) I would say it's ultimately not a wrong choice to pick Mage, so don't worry about it if you do. Ironically, I might change my Monster Wrangler into a Sage and my Mage into a Monster Wrangler in order to have the most efficient transfer of class abilities. (FYI the opinion in my comment is based on playing Draconian; currently on the way to the desert with the Pyramid.)
I find I agree with this tier list -- where the vocations are in relation to one another -- but still think the Mage is underrated. Deserves more recognition as a solid early game class (imo). My starter comp is Thief, Priest, Mage, and I find that all the things the Mage is "redundant" at are actual selling points, not weaknesses, at least from Aliahan to Alltrades. Another character that can focus target enemies or join the area attack firing squad provides a stronger alpha strike, not overkill. Moreover, at least for the first 3rd of the game, I find my Mage often cooks harder than the Hero and Thief, and when he is spending more MPs my Priest spends less. I'd probably put Mage at the bottom of B-tier. I think you're spot on about where the class belongs in the big picture. Similar to the Priest in when/how it's strong but falls off harder as the game progresses.
Well, tiering is kind of a dillema, cuz no matter the class. Some people will thinks its underrated. But at the end of the day, its a comparison. Mage is good and useful but when you think about what other classes bring to the table, its a bit less good than them. Its useful skills are learned by the sage. And early game, priest brings more to the table with useful ailment cleansing, healing and a rez. Mage only gives damage and kabuff before lvl 20. Kabuff is good but the sage will get it and when it comes to dmg, you have other options that are more MP friendly. I can settle for bottom of B tier🤝
Monster wrangler ability s tier with wild side+ monster pile on later game it scale based on how many monsters you rescued before you get rhose would say B
Changing the Sage into something else is better for postgame imo, but if you want a great support unit, you should experiment with changing your Sage to other vocations so they can get more abilities But if you want your Sage as an awesome magical DPS, the Duplic Hat pretty much cements them into NEEDING the Sage class so they can wear it (it makes every spell be cast twice, including Kazap if you use Morph to turn into Hero). Since the Duplic Hat only affects spells and not abilities, and single-target spells don’t need to stack (unless it’s damage), a support character would need the hat far less, so trying another class wouldn’t hurt as much.
ITs 100% of the time BUT in this game I believe you still LOSE the MP per spell instead of it costing 0 so if you use like Wild Side to trigger 4 SPELLS in 1 turn you will end up losing 4x as MUCH MP per use even on Dracky/Can't die mode I still find attack magic Kaboom/Kafrizzle to be worthless for the POST game bosses both of them.
Mage in c tier is a bit of hot take ngl. Mage is one of the only classes that can carry you from the very beginning of the game into the final boss. Maybe not post game, but that could be said of all classes.
Really? I've seen other CCs ranking it quite low. Look at it this way, its not that the mage is bad, its that the competition is fierce, at the end of the day you can only have 3 party members. And compared to other classes like MW or sage, the mage doesnt stand out. I hope you understand where i'm coming from even if you disagree. And I hope you enjoyed the vid!
I played the translated snes version on my analogue pocket, it was amazing, but I stopped when I reached the class changing palace (I paused and when I got back I didn't know where to go) so I welcome the objective marker since I have zero experience in the world. Anyway I picked merchant coz you recommended it and other perks like more XP and service call
Gadabout's get an ability that doubles spell strength, which makes them a good base class for turning into a sage. I think optimum is gadabout -> Sage -> Warrior
Yeah, thats what I said in the video. They get good skills but most of them are very late and the class is gimmicky. Thats why it has its own tier. I never said the class was useless.
Can the Priest still cast Healall on the final boss (of the main storyline) for considerable damage as in previous versions of the game? If so, the Priest might not be so bad for the final boss. Also, in this version the Wisdom stat seems to contribute to spell damage, so a Mage with the following three can do more AoE damage than nearly any other class: (1) the hat that allows them to echo the effect of their spell cast, (2) the skill from the Monster Wrangler that allows them to go act twice in one turn, and (3) the Gadabout skill that increases magical damage.
its not bad at all. But you just have better options for the end of the game. And yes, the new wisdom scaling is good, but that makes sage even more broken. There is no reason to bring a priest to the final boss other than you liking the class honestly. You can make your priest into warrior for a tankier healer or a faster healer with thief. Staying as a priest doesnt seen ideal to me. But yeah, it does have viability for sure, its just outclassed
@@acwanoexcept that mages have better wisdom growth than Sages along with much higher luck and agility. Priests are largely obsoleted by Sages but that's less the case for mage.
So i main 3 gadabout cuz i like the challenge and I dont really see it as a worst class but a fun class instead. Love the list but i like chaos so i would put gadabout to S tier for a challenge run
So what should I go to from the following: thief and a priest. My other 2 char are hero and monster hunter (only 15-20 or so monsters so far). Everyone is around level 28. Did I wait too long? I'm struggling with a few boss fights like the troll.
For the priest, you might as well wait until you get multiheal. Then change to warrior or sage. Your thief shouldve swapped at lvl 20 or at 25 when he learned hypnowhip. But 28 is not that late, you got extra stats. Your thief can become a monster wrangler himself to get wild side (50monsters). And your first Monster wrangler can become martial artist after wildside for a broken dps. Your final could be MW/MA/Sage or Warrior/MA/Sage. Or any 3 of these 4 honestly as long as you get a sage at some point to learn all the spells.
Your level doesnt matter. You just need to find 50 monsters and win one fight. Use youtube video that list and show all the monsters. There are a couple out there
I would put warrior in b because they need to be changed from. Thief or martial artist to be a good metal slime killer, thief is best early game metal killer,A for me.
I could see both honestly yeah. A lot of people like merchant and of people dont. Same thing for warrior. I just feel like, being the only tank class in the game and having good late game abilities, it has enough value to be A. But yeah, i can see where you're coming from
Very much think the opposite with the mage vs priest. Never needed a priest. Mage have higher wisdom, and never really needed healing. I didn't have a single party member die until Thwacking entered the picture, but by then I had Hero and Sage.
Maybe my judgement is coulded because im playing on draconian difficulty😂. The priest getting a rez early was super clutch, I died so many time in the pyramid. Didnt grind at all i guess.
Glad to see another merchant enjoyer! Some other content creators consider it the worst class after gadabout, I disagree. Now, I couldnt really put it S tier just cuz its a really versatile stepping stone. You could argue maybe A?
See, thats the thing. I never said they arent useful. The sage ALSO learns oomph and kabuff so unless you started with the mage its not that useful to play it. Its a good starting class but i personally think there's better. So im saying theyre good but not as good as others. I hope you understand my pov even if u dont agree, its all about comparisons.
mage is still good. don't know what game you guys are playing. you get a ton of MP too thats all you need. total destruction in the late game. martial artist is way better than warrior because of the constant crit hits and first attacks. skils are more important in DQ than stat numbers. my party was HERO / warrior to gadabout to sage to MATRIAL ARTIST / mage to PRIEST / priest to MAGE and i have everything i need. everyone can do magic damage and buffs i ran through the orbs and to zoma.
You have priest and mage backwards. Mage is one of the better classes for both early and late game while the hero makes early game priest superfluous and sage makes late game priest obsolete. Otherwise agree with the list.
But can’t it also just go the other way? Hero ALSO gets magic spells that can make your Mage less desirable, alongside Boomerangs and Whips for the rest of the party to do damage that can CRIT on multiple enemies. And of course, Sage ALSO learns Mage spells as well to make them “obsolete”. And as for a support Mage in earlygame, Kabuff sadly becomes useless when bosses start using Magic and Breath attacks, and by the time they learn Oomph, you’re better off making them a different class to join in on the Physical bonuses imo. So by being an earlygame Mage that swaps Vocation, the most you get out of it is Oomph and maybe Bounce if you farm some more. If you DO keep your Mage as is for lategame, they can be pretty good with all their high-damage spells, but I’d rather advise swapping classes over that, especially when Sage is on the table. By the time you NEED the stronger spells, a Sage is likely to picked up some of them. For Priest, they suffer from having very few ways to get off damage, but they’re useful because nobody else has to play the support role, freeing Hero up to pull off all his Zap spells to do bonus damage against most bosses. The video already talked about the status-ailment removal spells, but at Level 22, Priest learns Moreheal which is seriously important if you’re not going to be grinding your Sage up, as Hero doesn’t get Fullheal until 33. Moreheal will do WONDERS compared to the Hero’s Midheal, and especially the Special Medicine item (164 HP VS 80) that I feel like it’s more important to pick up than Oomph. The Priest doesn’t have a good mid-late game, but they perfectly setup a mid-late game for class changing I think Mages are best in postgame actually, when you can grind however forever without worry, as they’ve got the best Wisdom growths and will have time to learn all their spells without competition. It may be best for a Sage to wrap around to Mage with all the spells and abilities they want so they can get that sweet Wisdom bonus + Duplic Hat.
The Hero class gets very broken the more spells and ablities it learns, now that I think back on it, maybe I should've put in S tier. But my reasoning was that this class doesn't have access to class changing and its stat growth are okay in everything, really good at nothing.
I wish but no that bug was pretty much removed from all the Remakes including the SNES DQ3 so no.
@acwano how does it work with timing with monster wranglers? I have like 15-20 months and am level 28ish with him
Your level doesnt matter. You just need to find 50 monsters and win one fight. Use youtube video that list and show all the monsters. There are a couple out there
I would put warrior in b because they need to be changed from. Thief or martial artist to be a good metal slime killer, thief is best early game metal killer,A for me.
And merchant I would say C
I could see both honestly yeah. A lot of people like merchant and of people dont. Same thing for warrior. I just feel like, being the only tank class in the game and having good late game abilities, it has enough value to be A. But yeah, i can see where you're coming from
Lightning Blade!! *charges arm*
Merchant is S tier stepping stone call to arms is busted, sage is useless affer you learn all the spells.
Glad to see another merchant enjoyer! Some other content creators consider it the worst class after gadabout, I disagree. Now, I couldnt really put it S tier just cuz its a really versatile stepping stone. You could argue maybe A?
theif to martial artist only level 15 and she hits like a truck
Pity there are no bards in this game
Would be very cool.
@@acwano You can't have an Adventuring Party in fantasy without a bard, right?
Indeed, brother, indeed.
Disagree about the mage, They have access to a lot of support spells that are very very useful against bosses. Oomp and Kabuff are must haves for me
See, thats the thing. I never said they arent useful. The sage ALSO learns oomph and kabuff so unless you started with the mage its not that useful to play it. Its a good starting class but i personally think there's better. So im saying theyre good but not as good as others. I hope you understand my pov even if u dont agree, its all about comparisons.
mage is still good. don't know what game you guys are playing. you get a ton of MP too thats all you need. total destruction in the late game.
martial artist is way better than warrior because of the constant crit hits and first attacks.
skils are more important in DQ than stat numbers.
my party was HERO / warrior to gadabout to sage to MATRIAL ARTIST / mage to PRIEST / priest to MAGE and i have everything i need. everyone can do magic damage and buffs i ran through the orbs and to zoma.
who said it wasnt good? I said I played and it was good. Its just that compared to other classes, it brings less to the table.
The Priest doesn’t have a good mid-late game, but they perfectly setup a mid-late game for class changing
I think Mages are best in postgame actually, when you can grind however forever without worry, as they’ve got the best Wisdom growths and will have time to learn all their spells without competition. It may be best for a Sage to wrap around to Mage with all the spells and abilities they want so they can get that sweet Wisdom bonus + Duplic Hat.
Hey, im totally open to other opinions. I can see where your coming from. the mage is a good class but i still think priest is more useful
Hero is kinda boring I wish he could dabble in other classes. He's very good, but he's on rails the whole game.
Yeah I agree with that. I wish it was like metaphor refantazio, where even the MC can play with class system.
