I am an accountant and that's the exact reasoning I use for why I got into. Was not expecting to get kicked in the balls 1 minute into a dnd video but here we are. Well played
Lol
XD
I get it! Tulok doesn't keep using Kensai Monks because it's versatile and fits with numerous pop culture characters but because it's offers Calligraphy, it all makes sense!
what did you think the reason why all of those monk gained such great endurance was due to simple physical training, no it was because they uncovered the secrets to caligraphy
@@potatomancer4920 as the saying goes, there's nothing like a calligraphy pen to build up that lung capacity, etc.
@@Ubersupersloth It's a joke with Tulok, he claims that it is the single most powerful skill you can pick up. Joking aside, Calligraphy is one of those skills that is as useful as your imagination lets it. Need to forge a document but don't have a Rogue on hand, Calligraphy. Need to transcribe an old text and want to weasel bonus points out of it, Calligraphy. You get the idea
@@Ubersupersloth Excellent question, I have no idea
The Kensei makes sense.. sei.
As an Eric, this is semi-accurate. Numbers can be a fun little puzzle. Furthering corporate tax evasion, less fun. I have no desire to be an accountant.
Eric Eric Eric
Banana fana fo feric
Me my mo meric
Eric
There is no sin in not wanting to give the IRS more money than it is absolutley necessary, hell, it may be a civic duty
I would like to request that nobody engage with the Randian troll.
Unless it is a Ben Affleck type accountant.
My uncle keeps going between accounting and baking. I get baking is sort of the nerdiest of the food fields but it's still not the most straightforward of career pairings.
Yo my dad is Eric Brooks. He's definitely never mentioned this to me and how cool it is. And for no reason at all I've never watched Blade
Using Ixalan vampires leads to a surreal mental image of Wesley Snipes as a conquistador. Fighting pirates. And dinosaurs.
Ixalan was weird. Very fun, but weird.
The same "vampire" race exists on Zendikar too, so Blade should be wearing blood tattoos and a giant bug carapace and crawl over floating hedrons.
Sounds like something that needs an anime adaption... Urgently.
Of course Wesley is going to voice act the lead role. And preferably with a guest appearance by Dolph.
And a fancy moustache, never forget the fancy moustache.
As soon as you said "gun fu" I was like oh snap we need a gun kata build. I suggest High Cleric John Preston, portrayed by Christan Bale, from the movie Equilibrium.
Mastering the Gun Kata, you will see a rise in accuracy of at least one hundred and twenty percent.
I fucking love that movie, lame as it is :P
@@Micras08 - Saaaame
Equilibrium!!
I have a feeling the sci-fi builds don't really fit D&D... if Tulok branched out into Shadowrun or World of Darkness this would work better. There is only so much a Hand Crossbow can do.
Count Dooku from the Star Wars Prequels would be nice.
I was thinking this, so I did it myself. In my opinion, Dooku is 12 levels of battle master fighter, 5 levels of divination wizard, and 3 levels of inquisitive rogue.
@@gamecavalier3230 he's originally from the prequels, but was also in the Clone Wars
@@gamecavalier3230 doesn’t invalidate his introduction and involvement in the Prequels.
@@gamecavalier3230 I think you're the one true strike is aimed at.
@@thonham4986 I think you could replace those levels of rogue with bard college of swords for flourishes. He is quite fancy.
I really appreciate the Plane Shift PDFs getting some love. I really enjoyed those and really wish they would get official releases.
I believe they are in the plane art books that mtg released
Draco Lost Yeah I meant an official release so that they can be used on D&D Beyond without having to homebrew everything and would viable for Adventurers League.
Plane shift is where this is from you say? Do they have lycanthropy options as well? Shifter isn't really doing it for me
I would like an "Across the Multiverse" sort of book. Has all the planes shift thus far. And maybe a magic boon that grants you a planeswalker spark. Lastly a mana system? Gather mana on short or long rests, and use colors of mana to cast spells as oppose to spell slots.
@@nomadrl91x Advanced Arcana from DM's Guild has the mana system for you. It's not official of course, but it does the job.
"He doesn't act like an Eric"
Meanwhile Riddick's first name is Richard.
You trying to tell me this man's name is Dick Riddick??
@@themightybullfrog Dick B. Riddick, technically
I thought his first name was Riddick and his last name was yulous
@@TheNoDachi He do be ridic though.
He DOES act like a Dick.
I feel like Tasha's Cauldron is going to be fantastic for you. now if a races abilities work flavorwise but the ASI's don't match up with what the fictional character is good at, you can just ignore the standard ASI's and put them where you need them. Pretty nice.
@Barry Clown No it's actually smart
In one way it is really smart because it opens you up to play any race you want no matter the class, but in a RP way it sucks because there is a reason each race had those stats. For example the Kolbolt is described as cunning, but weak. Well not anymore now a tiny Kolbolt is as strong as a Goliath.
@@marks2807I’d argue one character doesn’t cheapen that lore, and by making that exemption part of rp it can benefit your character. For example, if you’re in a high elven society but you have an odd propensity for “brutish pursuits” that can be interesting, or hell a vampire build. Strength and con fit the idea of an apex predator more than the traditional manipulative seducer, but both are aspects of vampires in pop culture.
Halloween fast approaching, time for some seasonal builds; "How to Play Goliath from Gargoyles in Dungeons & Dragons (Disney Build for D&D 5e)
winged tiefling barbarian maybe?
I've been trying to think of Gokiath for ages. You think aarakocra? Probably a monk, haunted one background? Noble? Hmmm
@@AzLolFun What about an actual goliath, and give him some levels in draconic sorcerer to get him some temporary wings, and an AC boost and claws?
I just checked, and Draconic Sorcerers don't get wings until 14th level. I had them confused with Aasimar, that get wings at 3rd. I just don't see Goliath the Gargoyle as have 14 levels of sorcerer. Maybe winged Tiefling is the way to go. Aaralockra are just too "bird" to be a gargoyle.
@@bskec2177 winged tiefling for sure
"Maybe they should call you Fist, but then a Krogan is gonna kill you ..."
Now I want a Wrex build
"Shepard."
Somebody was talking about Rex from TCW last video and it made me think of asking for Wrex. Would be awesome, however unlikely it is.
I heard it and went looking to see if he had already done one! Unfortunately no :(
Wrex or Grunt.
In addition to being redundant, it's also a bit redundant is probably my favorite joke on this channel
Finally, someone else points out how odd it is that the monk, a class partially reliant on wisdom, only has one of five wisdom skills included in its proficiency options. Like, the perception and medicine skills fit pretty well with the monk thematically, so I don't get why they couldn't be included at the very least.
I thought the ranger levels were a good way to distinguish him from other kensei monks.
I would think blood hunter would have been more thematic
@@Ubersupersloth well if hes using Ixalan vampires, wouldnt be too far of a stretch to use blood hunter printed in Wizards Wildemount book
Even before he started I said there would be levels of ranger to myself. Blafe literally has a favorite enemy.
I am surprised that D&D does not have a half-vampire race choice. Since D&D humans seem to get it on with the other races with a human-ish face.
@@Neutral_Tired Well it's a fantasy game, people reproduce with devils, angels, dragons and even elementals. I don't think undead is where we draw the line, I mean they aren't rotting away like zobies either. Honestly at this point humans should get advantage in charisma roles when they try to seduce someone, they seem to fuck anything that moves.
Nahuel Contrera I mean, that would be thematically appropriate but I don’t think the bards need the help.
Neutral Tired i think the inxalan vampire aren’t actually corpses
I built one on DnD Beyond. Look up Daywalker and find WillKyram's
Ehhh, with vampires being known for their charming abilities, I feel like the implications of a half-vampire might just be a little too... gross for WotC
Wow. You just casually dropped that Mass Effect reference in there and walked away.
Hint at a future build maybe?
@@patrickjones9265 we would be blessed if that was so
You’ve made Samurai Jack, now you should make Scaramouche, everyone’s favorite robot mercenary.
I just think it's hilarious how people keep getting mad when all the people who do the SAME STUFF that THEY ASK FOR get made the SAME WAY. You don't want monks? Quit asking for people who do martial arts!
One could argue similar or better results might be able to be obtained with other classes.
@@clothar23 Maybe, but this channel is about being as accurate to the character and their abilities as possible, not just what's going to make the build stronger.
@@alphaxtitania5597 What do you mean. The man himself admitted the last two levels of Monk were wasted and only taken to increase the die.
And unarmoured defense is not at all appropriate. As the vest Blade wears is light body armour. Not to mention while he does a lot of hand to hand Blade isn't above traps , poison in the form of silver nitrate, and the occasional bit of blind rage. Does any of that sound like a monk to you ?
@@clothar23 That's where the sprinkle of Ranger comes in.
90% of anime characters are Monks or Barbarians. Seriously, no armor, big weapons, martial arts and when the 'get serious' they shrug everything off and absolutely wreck things...
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite UA-cam channels. I'd love to see some Firefly or Farscape builds (UA-cam needs more early 2000's sci-fi content).
Blade in D&D: Ever heard of a Glass Cannon?
You could probably just drop the levels in Ranger and take the Tough Feat. Then again, if you roll well, your Constitution is likely better too
He was one in the crappy PS1 game if that makes you feel any better ;)
Anyone else hype for the Blade mood that’ll be coming out in a few years? Also get that Predator build
This looks like a fun build. Nice work Tulok. I have 3 requests: Gandalf, the Predator, and Martian Manhunter.
I second all of these, especially the Manhunter. Sounds like a tricky build but would be really cool.
Gandalf is literally just a deva with the status/importance of a solar.
Deva (MM p15-16): wise and charismatic (20 wis/cha) angel who is sent to the material plane as a messenger and advisor, lending aid, hope, and courage to good-hearted folk, and takes on an appropriate mortal-looking form to do so.
If you *really* want to make a PC gandalf, you could approximate him with an aasimar divine soul sorcadin (his power is innate and his presence bolsters his allies and wards off the terror that things like the nazgul bring) and that background feature about knowing where to find info you don't know.
I can't second this enough
Alien and Predator are getting a video at the end of the month
With the new Gothic lineages, you can totally make a Blade character even better since their bite syncs well with the new bite attack.
Episode #204 of the Fire Emblem stats: Eric Brooks.
Blade is great with swords, brawling, and bows (guns of course). You might think he has weaknesses in faith and spears but nope, he doesn't have a normal vampire's weaknesses.
He has high HP and dexterity but bad magic since he doesn't fight with magic.
Fire Emblem?
...okay. so we got Trevor Belmont, Blade, Alucard from Helsing, and father Anderson...now we just need a twilight cleric and we're all set
TULOK!! I COME FROM THE FUTURE TO SAY TWO THINGS!!! ONE: yeah, we are still in the pandemy, but TWO: WE FINALLY HAVE A DHAMPIR LINEAGE!!!!
As an Eric, I have to say, never before have I been so offended by something I 100% agree with, numbers are a fun little puzzle
Love how you called out all the people who get mad for asking for the same thing and get it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Loved the vid. Keep it up
DM won't let you be a vampire but you still want to kick ass with cool teeth? Half-orcs get tusks!
Pros: better strength and con along with relentless endurance to make you way more combat immortal, tusks are cooler than fangs, and you get bigger crits. Plus half-orcs are hot.
Cons: strength isn't a super essential part of the build, but hey, neither is a +2 to charisma so that's not too bad. I guess you miss out on the cool vampire stuff too.
Verdict: half-orcs are hot, play a half-orc Blade
Counter point, play a half-orc and get bitten, now you have two sets of cool teeth!
Me: “Will this build be good for Curse of Strahd?”
Tulok: “well yes, but actually Y E S.”
Characters I would like to see in future episodes:
Gollum (Lord of the Rings)
Killik (Soul Calibur)
Talion (Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War)
Zeratul (Starcraft)
Jack of Blades (Fable)
Freddy Kruger (Nightmare of Elm Street)
Sokka (Avatar the Last Airbender)
Tulok you can now go ahead and make Byakua Kuchki, that would be a wonderful addition to your list of " guys with swords and magic...with Caligraphy!"
Ah at last a Vampire build.
(or at least a half-vampire)
Thank you!
I want a Talion build: I envision gloom stalker ranger/ undying warlock
Was not expecting the slightly obscure mass effect reference, got a good chuckle out of me!
Honestly Tuloks videos are some of the best parts of my week
How about another swordsman like zoro from one piece
Or Zorro... From Zorro
This! My only thought is that he's gonna have a LOOOOOT of reading/watching to do unless he calls in a lifeline from a friend lol.
@@joshyfox1 he's already done Zorro
@@CastellanMaben Sorry about that, I'll have to look that up.
Funny enough, I think that a lot of the straw hats would make good monks.
Zoro: Kensei monk/Battle master fighter
Sanji: Open hand monk/ mabey sorcerer
Luffy: Open hand monk/ Barbarian
Wow, writing this in early August? Props to you
Hearing you joke about a Krogan killing someone named Fist makes me REALLY want an Urdnot Wrex build...
Congratulations, you get the best build award just because you used Plane Shift which kicks ass.
With this build, I think i've seen all that I've needed to see of the blade films. Hope you didn't lose sanity making this Tulock
This build, with some changes, could also work for Angel from the Buffyverse. You should make that! Love your channel!!
As a non-Eric accountant who's also starting a youtube channel. I look forward to counting all of the comments complaining that i've built yet another Rogue because in Pathfinder its the class that gives us the most anime abilities.
A Sun Wukong build from journey to the west would be really cool
KENSEI MONK! I HAVE ONLY ONE THING TO SAY!
Not sure how I would have made it, but this is a cool way of making it.
I don't think I can physically be mad after that intro. You are a treasure.
In my current campaign (a sequel to the last one I ran years ago) one of my players is a Kryptonian vampire and the other is a combination of Agent Venom and Blue Beetle.
So Lex van Helsing is sending Blade Wilson, also known as Sunstroke, after them.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING THIS SINCE EPISODE 40!!!!! AMAZING BUILD!!!!
Blade was my favorite character when I was younger. This is fucking dope
Thanks for another great episode! Always awesome to see another horror related character
Amazing build!... haven't watched it yet, just love Blade.
happy birthday to me! and also that is by far my favorite intro youve ever done
As an Erik, math is not a fun puzzle.
It’s hell.
And Blade is still one of my go-to Halloween costumes
Re-watched your "Pokemon Master" build a day or two ago. That video's still good, but it's amazing just how much you've improved since then, with more snark and faster & snappier speech.
I can't believe you didn't make Blade the Barbarian/Druid/Wizard multiclass that he clearly is. My rage fuels the algorithm.
For the complement of the sherlock character, maybe a "how to play Moriarty in dnd will be amazing"
Now I need the Urdnot Wrex build I never knew I wanted
Kensai Monks are Fun and absolutely enjoy all the videos with a build of or multiclass into one. Kensai are excellent and this will be the hill I die on with ALL my honor! Also, shout out to all the other Eric's' (and Erik's'; Erick's here; accountants and non accountants alike)
This was a great build, good job!
"Eric is the name of an accountant who got into accounting, because the numbers are just a fun little puzzle for the*m"
* Erik Killmonger leave the room in anger*
I've been waiting for this one!
Thank you for doing what you do here. I love your videos.
Also a Bonus Buffy the Vampire slayer build here. Nice.
God damn that Fist reference was a deep dive
Why on earth did you make this martial arts using sword wielding vampire a martial arts using sword wielding vampire? Honestly it's like you don't even know the characters you are trying to build. I am so deeply disappointed.
The algorithm thanks you
Yes
But at least he included calligraphy
The sarcasm is strong with this one I believe I like it 😎
Like the build! I mean, everyone’s going to be different. I have a ‘sub-zero’ I played in Descent to Avernus and absolutely loved it, but I did customize it for me. After all it is my character, but I appreciate your videos for the inspiration. For instance, I’m thinking I might want to add fighter levels, but I would never criticize a fellow player for building their character a certain way.
Thank you
You know one of the coolest BLADES in fiction is definitely the tessaiga owned by INUYASHA.
Nice video as always :D
I know you put a lot of work in wither its a Kensei monk or a multi-classing nightmare. So, fight on Barbarian. Fight on.
Alt-build if your dm is lame and doesn't let you play as a vampire:
- half-elf (which would be consistent with other Tulok builds, since Alucard from Castlevania is a High Elf)
- Way of the Long Death Monk to get the spooky scary vampire flavour and life drinking powers
- Searing Smite from ranger (class feature variants) to make up for not having a magic sword
Thank you so much this is glorious
TULOK THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!! IT IS AMAZING!!
Hi, I'm an Eric. And I was okay with that dunking. I did really like algebra in high school.
I’d like to see Guts and potentially Griffith from Berserk made but that show is so ultra violent he’d need to censor it all 😂
I would love if WOC created an official playable “Vampire” race for (standard) 5E.
They had the Vrylocka race in 4e which where half-vampires, or basically blade. So already have done the race at one point.
As a secret Eric, I feel exceptionally dunked on
That Song at the start made the soup go up my nose!
If your dm won’t let you play a vampire, your next best bet is a Tiefling. I recommend either going Glasya or Dispater, though Dispater is certainly the better of the two. Don’t get me wrong, Thaumaturgy Disguise Self and Detect Thoughts will make you better at finding your prey, especially that last one, but Minor Illusion Disguise Self and Invisibility will let you hunt them more effectively while you come up unseen and stab them in the back. I know blade can’t do this but it’s super vampire-y
Shout out to Vampire race from Ixalan! yes!!!
Awesome video. Have you considered creating a build for The Crow?
Knew thered be some ranger in there.
A good idea if your dm wont allow vampires would be going with the drow variant of the half elf.
If you DM won't allow you to play vampire as a race I'd say half-elf fits, say that the elf half is Drow for flavour as they have a lot of the same drawbacks as vampires and are weak to sunlight.
hot damn I love these movies. This video is such a great tribute to them
I mean, there's no better proof that most characters in pop fiction fall into few of the D&D archetypes than this channel. And you're usually pretty accurate and fair, so if anything, we should blame pop fiction.
Don’t want to make another monk? Michael Weston may be a secret agent, but his Wisdom is just so low. Seriously, every bad guy gets him to work for them at some point.
I'd love to see a Michael Weston build. Great suggestion!
Hell yeah, do this
I wouldn't say Michael has low wisdom, just bad rolls while his DM keeps throwing him into bs situations
I love this suggestion! I'd probably go with a rogue/bard multiclass, for that Charismatic skill monkey who can still get the upper hand in a fight.
@@misterdanny5421 Considering his general proficiency with weapons you might need a fighter level in there.
Neverwinter Nights is now on PS4. I've been trying character builds, in this d&d 3rd edition, as well. I've already made a homage character, based on a symphonic metal siren:
Name: Chiara Malvestiti.
Female Elf.
Class: Bard.
Prestige Class: Arcane Archer.
So far, so good. I might try to come up with other odeas, later. We'll see.
Day walker! Yes! Hope to see Buffy someday also. And Ash. And the Winchester brothers- maybe when they air the Supernatural finale we can get Dean on Tuesday and Sam Thursday or vice versa?
Tulok the Trailblazrian - Trailbrazerian, -brazen, 🥴 you have the picture - making Kensei monks safe to play.
I've got a character I'm playing who is a rogue (inquisitive) 1, and ranger (monster slayer) 1 he hunts all kinds of monsters and he refuses to kill them because as he was traveling he learned not all monsters are inherently evil so he is trying to use his alchemist tools proficiency to find cures for vamparism and lycanthropy and the like. He has the noble background and he will strictly use his weapons non lethally (i plan on asking the DM if i can make clubs with the finesse property so it makes more sense than just light stabs with my daggers and shortsword and shortbow) i plan on since he is in a party with killers and not in his home town i will create a secret identity like the silver shroud or something
I really want to see a custom talisman thrower class that scales its abilities off of the calligraphy skill, just to have the strongest character Tulok has ever made, actually be the one who masters calligraphy. Maybe as an April fools build, so he can go all out with it without people getting annoyed about it.
Maybe add in a permanent true strike effect and a jump attack that gets super boosted by the jump spell, just to push the joke even further.
I'd love to see a video on how to play Kenpachi Zaraki.
May I respectfully request builds for Jon Snow and the Night King from Game of Thrones? Jon would let you show off the new rules for the Beastmaster Ranger, and the Night King would be a fun martial necromancer!
Im just here to further the algorithm.
Calling the MtG stuff the "half-vampire of official content" was golden.
"Maybe they'll call you Fist, but then you'll get killed by a Krogen." LOST IT there thank you!
For vampire, use the Planeshift Zendikar rules, it really lets you have fun compared to the Ixalan one. You can look it up.
I'd like to see a predator build. I think that could be really cool.
I was actually going to suggest Blade the other day, work in some comment about ice skating uphill.
Inb4 video: Probably a Kensei Monk. Hopefully not, but probably. Or maybe a Ranger?
After video: *Pleasantly unsurprised*
i was hoping youd use the vampire race. finally morepeople will know about it
