- After Eskom announced unprecedented stage 6 load-shedding on Monday, BusinessLIVE reporter Mudiwa Gavaza provides insight into the causes of the latest blackouts - as well as what stage 8 load-shedding could mean for South Africans.
The ailing power utility said the move to stage 6, which has never been implemented before, was due to a "shortage of capacity".

This is a really good case study for students. "How people can ruin a country within 25 years."
Interesting that no one mentions Eskom selling 300 megawatts to Zambia just 2 weeks ago.
They must give the money back and take back our 300 wats
Other countries wants to help south Africa with our electrical problems and come and run the power grid for us and keep the power on but like we all know that our government is f.up I have no hope for this country anymore
It's time to leave this sh...t hole moving to CANADA my dudes! !!!!
We are all fed-up! We should stand together as the majority and remove the incompetent minority. Time to start moving forward again
So guys I'm gonna start running on my treadmill to power my house.
Hehe come join me
Why was the coal never wet while the previous parties ran South Africa
You know why... Lol
@@jujuzuma2481 No rain where coal was stored - easy to work out by 6 year old child.
@@snymanjd4063 Exactly what about silos or Bunkers?? I mean steamships had this down to a fine art more than 200 years ago 😑
Honestly, South Africa should allow competitors and new businesses into the Water and Electricity sector. Some competition would do good in ensuring that there isnt crap like this going on
That would mean Less Stealing from the public coffers --- not going to happen ...
They would lose all their client within a year. They would also have to play the race card to force people to use their services!!
Exactly what I’m saying. If you can’t fix it yourself, someone else will. Fact is that any American or European company will come and offer 10x better electricity for 1/3 of the price. Same with Vodacom and MTN. We have the most expensive Data prices in the world, and they don’t want to change that. Thing is, someone is going to come and change that. Obviously if SA became free market we would hugely be disadvantaged mainly because majority population needs those free services paid by government and taxes, but some sectors, like Electricity and Water and Cellular would hugely benefit from competition. Lower prices for us and more profit for companies. This is definitely a statement that needs to be addressed to the ANC and other parties.
Well I'm leaving South Africa.
Only way
Fuck yes take me with you
Get me outta here
Same! Application is in for USA
ha, who would've thought? stealing money? massive debt? nice one, Eskom.
Hello weeb. I am also a weeb. I see you've watched JOJO
Oh so you dont have a roof for the flippen coal
Stop Blaming the rain and lack of dry coal...!
Blame your government and the people running it...!
That's so true
Small businesses are suffering terribly.
I don't care for the reason for the blackouts, we, as tax paying electricity bill paying citizens, should not be having to "make plans" around bloody load shedding. Why are the honest law abiding good people of this country having to suffer
How do we cook if we spend most of the time at work, then get home in darkness. please man
Don't blame the rain, blame the changes people has made. Previously coal was supplied on a need basis. When Eskom needed coal it was supplied. Now they ask Eskom in the beginning of the month how much coal do you need for the month and then dump everything outside in the rain. It is time to change back to the ways it worked in the past. Rain come from God Almighty, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Blaming the rain, you blame God Almighty, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit because They give it for free. Stop the blaming game, the rulers of the country must start taking responsibility. When making decisions, the rulers of the country must realize it effects 60 million other people and not themselves only. They get the big bucks, but millions can't feed their families.
it's a mess
Is water wet? No, but the coal is.
EXCUSES EXCUSES !!!! REPLACED ALL MY CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS WITH CANDLES DEF. CHRISTMAS BY CANDLE LIGHT LOL
Stop paying tax guys and buy solar and inverters with the money.. What we paying tax for?
We pay tax so that our government can live a A LIST life
Give me a working schedule. I have tried multiple sources but all of them lie with the loadshedding coming in without warning
"Please don't use our product that we grossly overcharge for or actually supply"
With all the sources of electrical energy South Africa still runs on coal ! Come on man !
Very informative.
It means we're all fucked. Worse than before.
For about 8 months we had no problems...Now we have wet coal and no goals
Why not store the coal in bunkers or silos? why is it outside?
THE single most critical resource for a coal fired station and it's in the rain 😑
If they were running their boilers properly the moisture in the coal would evaporate instantly, steam trains run in the rain with coal completely soaked in water, they don’t have breakdowns or loss of power generation because the water in the coal evaporates as soon as it enters the boiler
@@trainryan2837 Yes, this was a debunked excuse a while back, but obviously PR didn't get the memo, still lying. At least the Eskom COO tells it as it really is.
IT MEANS....................WE ARE FCKED LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are not going forward in life we going back to 10000 BC bros lmj!!!
"The coal got wet" is the most stupid excuse I have ever heard
This is the New South Africa that all ANC supporters voted for.. Make you think...
Shut the fuck up
@@tennrand9822 Truth Hurts???
mediocrity embraced by mediocre people.karma will forever rain on them because they don't belong in SA
What a load of crap. Wet coal? that's a joke right?
Sad isn't it? How on earth did SA get to this 4th world status? We were such a vibrant country until the ANC took over. 😢😢😢😢
Time to spent R 2 million for solar panels and batteries!
yeah i’m outta here
EISH MAN 😡
Luckily I spent all my "white privilege" on some solar panels... I literally could not give a fucking rat's ass, what ESKOM do or don't do...
ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!!
