On March 8th, 2013, Snarky Puppy and a host of special guests convened at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke VA. The project was to record a series of live performances in audio and video that would bring attention and benefit to the ongoing work of the center. The Jefferson Center is a non-profit arts organization that is revitalizing a key neighborhood in Roanoke with the restoration of Jefferson High School and the renovation of the Shaftman Performance Hall. The hall brings world class music to the local community through the Music Lab, providing education and recording space for local children.
The Music Lab at Jefferson Center is working daily to pull from every social and economic class of the Roanoke community and create the next wave of real, human musicians. They host low cost or free after-school programs for any interested young people filled with visits by guest artists, private instrumental instruction, and recording training. Wafting out of the little studios and rehearsal rooms on the third floor of Jefferson Center, you can hear Afro-beat in Swahili, hip-hop in Liberian Kreyol, the blues coming from the guitar of a 13 year-old prodigy, and the undeniable sound of young musicians growing. It's a thing that needs to be supported at all costs across this country, and by purchasing this record, you've done it.
A portion of every sale will go to the Music Lab at Jefferson Center.
So it's May 2024 and I'm loving this song even more so now than when I first watched it, Magda does such a wonderful job and gives this song a refreshing sunny tone with her joyful personality that is infectious and never fails to make me smile every single time I watch this.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Michael League and the incredibly talented Snarky Puppy group of Maestros who provide an eargasmic wall of sonic brilliance that whilst amazing, paves the way for the Incredible Magda to weave her magic.
Kudos to you all and here's to another 10 years of this great song.
It's literally impossible to listen to this without smiling.
I agree
actually im crying
Exactly what I was just thinking!
Literalmente. Y más por el toque que le da cada artista. Es impresionante
Big smiles here
10 years later this is still magical
"Your the boss" THAT was adorable xD
Samba from Brazil! Love
Yerdabozs
I can't really explain why, but this has to be my all time favorite Snarky Puppy collaboration.
Have you seen this John? ua-cam.com/video/bTx7lNr9uBw/v-deo.html
@@patrickfitzgerald2861 Ooh, that climax! This one is really good but it didn't give me chills like Magda did
same!
Same! I think it's because of her joy in singing. It's beautiful!
Same 😊
Holly shit, is this Brazilian samba played by Americans and sung in french? Beautifully donne
By a Greek woman no less. And I think it's bossa nova
@@thomaskaranatsis9034 its like bossa nova + samba, perfect combiantion
Actually it's a Brazilian samba played by Americans and sung in french BY A GREEK GIRL thank you very much.
@@peetey3 holy mother of god I could swear she was french.
Lol
Snarky Puppy! You made me quit my 10 year long I.T. career to study music.
So amazing! I'm a musician, but I'm studying... diplomacy ;) But now, after the
snarky Puppy concert (it was yesterday in my town) I'm thinking about sound production :D
Anwyll Music and MissAmeria good going guys. Wishing you the best of luck!
@@MissAmeria I know how that feels... Been a singer/musician for most of my life, but graduated from Law School. I want to study music bad tho!
Well, where I am from there is not a music school in which I can graduate with my instrument (electric guitar) so im studying by myself. Been almost 15 years !
Get ready for a financial crisis
If you close your eyes while listening to this, you can see a beach, palm trees, koopas, bananas and Toad screaming "AAAA-WHOAWHOAWHOA!!"
Exactly what I was thinking starting from 00:36sec
Definitely one of the top five comments I have read on UA-cam.
Is the Bossa Nova power
Who would've thought a Greek woman could write the best French song I've ever heard?
this makes me happy inside
me too :)
is your kidney happy? :)
haha yep and my heart
if this song was an egg it would be a good one.
Are there other 'happy' songs/performances like this? :)
Who else cried to how beautiful this is?
this healed my depression
I'm French and I'll try to translate the lyrics. Sorry for the mistakes !
Bouquets of roses,
Songs that speak of one thing,
Love, love
An earthquacke
A neckpiece that holds my hapiness
Love, always
Love, are you there ?
Love, I'm looking for your figure
Love, is that you ?
Love, why are you hiding from me ?
Dreaming of kisses,
Of two words caressing the neck,
Love, love
World's upside down,
Who will bring my hapiness ?
Love, always
Love, are you there ?
Love, I'm looking for your figure
Love, is that you ?
Love, I don't really know
Love, why ?
Love, why are you hiding from me ?
Every morning I get up, I get up very early,
To go to work,
This morning I have the feeling that
Someone will answer to my question
Love, are you there ?
Love, I'm looking for your figure
Love, is that you ?
Love, I don't really know
Love, you're crazy
Love, I'm looking for you, where are you ?
Love, why ?
Love, why are you hiding from me?
Thank you.
Thanks Florian x
Thank you so much!!!!!
God bless you man!!!
Florian NOURDIN Thanks, Florian.
..was playing this version of the song with a band to Jazz clubs around Athens. Nobody knew the song..by the end ,everybody was dancing.
At the end they would ask it again for an encore. Amazing song by an amazing songwriter.
I am Argentine and I love this mix of styles! murga, Brazilian samba and French opera... ufff amazing!
"Sounds Greek ta me" and whirling with this classic French fusion delight. Geeshush! Y' all, percussion awesomemen, calm down, my heart! 🎶 "Aaah, AAah", Ladies, your tight harmonies make this ginger pause and pray for talent like yours! 🎶🎶 Miss Magda-Greek princess-Giannikou, you and Snarky Puppy just make folks happy!
The craziest thing is they don't rehearse this. Everyone from the Puppy just gets an MP3 of the song and learns it at their leisure, they get together here, and just do it. Amazing.
Mike DeGroff thats freaking amazing
Where did you read that? Isn't there at least one reharsal before the show?
I went to a Q&A with Micheal League and explained that he sends the band music files of the song mocks made on GarageBand, but they do then come in to rehearse as a band and add new ideas once everyone's learnt the parts.
Ollie Heron That's so cool
Oh man...Garage Band for sketching....Amazing what it turns out!!!
4:28 gave me CHILLS. Cory has such SOUL
Women in my dreams have this voice.
My goodness, I love this live recording.
Michael League gets my vote for Producer of the Year - every year! He gets consistently phenomenal performances from not only his Guest Artists, but from himself and the Snarky Puppy musicians, which, individually, are the standout player in other bands. True trandscendant musicianship is not playing everything you know on every song...hats off to M League!
Magda's voice has aged beautifully. Honestly love her voice. There are no words to describe the feels from this Snarky Puppy take on such a fusion of culture.
God dang, 3:09 to 3:45 is so sweet and moving it brings a tear to my eye. Magda is so dang awesome, I could listen to this all day. Easily one of my favorite pieces of music in years
Agree.
+SuperHobbit89 agree to timing is spot on
Gotta give it to Cory Henry on those keys too. My man was killing it
I don’t believe in love at first sight. If you add my EARS to the equation, though... *swooon*
I've hit the replay button so many times I feel like I owe it an apology.
this song will actually help you to fall in love over and over again
The very best love song from a genius musician ever been heard in the history of mankind. Period.
that energy is just incredible, to have so many talented musicians come together to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts,
Wow! Never knew a language could be such a turn on. That was absolutely beautiful.
The breakdown with Cory on the EP is like top 5 musical moments of the last decade.
Whenever I put my headsets on Snarky Puppy takes me to my own little world. a world without boundaries or limitations.
These guys should be named the Best Musicians in the World
the musicians and the listeners are all so jubilant. it makes me jubilant as well to see people enjoying such a stellar moment that will never repeat itself, the way it should be.
You could have not said that any better.
Merci!
Brazilian bossa nova sung in french by a greek woman, now this is fucking awesome.
Anyone knows how to be one of those people who are just chilling on the couch listening to this great music?
This song has a 100% success rate of making me smile every time I hear it
Mama Magda! Look at those legs! You are EVERYTHING! I love you so much! Snarky Puppy, thank you for introduction this unstoppable force to me.
I am so happy....all of you musicians were BORN, I really do. I love you guy's parents, for birthing such amazing musician specialists into this mundane world of hell. Life became tolerable from just experiencing this intricate musicianship and master class contribution. I don't understand why music does to the brain and spirit as it does. But I NEED it and can't balance out my life without it. It's another language another form of LOVING someone if thee creators want it to be. For my mental health.....please stay safe and healthy.
Well If this isn't the cutest little song there is.. It's so infectous with smiles and promises of good things.. I'm a grown ass man and I feel like twirling right now.
😂😂😂
Pure muscianship, background vocals, timing, rhythm...what's not to like.
Cette musique joyeuse et pétillante est porteuse d'espoir pour les cœurs à prendre, l'amour n'est pas bien loin!
I can only describe this as velvet for your ears and her French accent (from Greece) is so cool / now I want to learn French
Her voice is so perfect..but why nobody is talking about her laugh @3:51?
I did! Thought the grin beforehand and that laugh were delightful.
fr
The collaboration between Snarky Puppy and Magda is perfection personified.
There is so much to love about this ...it's the spirit of music
This is SUCH a fantastic live session. I love all those musicians, this choir, this horn section, the drum solo. Wonderful! Merci beaucoup :)
I love how they are balanced. Not one instrument overpowering another.
As soon as she came in, I said, "Hey"! Lol blew me away!
I didn't understand 1 word...but who cares?! This song was a gift to my musical palate *sigh*
Jason Pittmon it's about love
@@mathysroggero5862 isn't every damn song about love?
I don't understand nothing from this song, i barely speak english, but damn french sounds quite romantic.
@@dianeaishamonday9125 I know one that is about Theresa May
Only extremely beautiful people can play extremely beautiful music!!!
I can not wait to see her next week in Miami for the Ground Up Music Festival! Its going to be EPIC!!! Three days and nights of music on the beach with amazing Latin food. Oh boy.
Papi this one is for you, thank you
Just Great. All we are missing is a live audience to capture the real magic of Magda!
Im soo in love with her she could sing to me everyday.... WOW totally amazed by her voice and rhythm!
how cool is it that the audience is just intertwined with the band
Listening to young people, so good is priceless. A great joy and a perfect execution. You had bewitched me. I do not usually comment, but in your case it was a duty.
She has got too much talent for one person
oneminuteguitarlesson ... she? They all do.
@@danielcongleton2878 True. But she's doing main vocals, and playing the accordion, and the little breaths are an instrument on their own. So, three for one? :-)
so glad i stumbled across Snarky Puppy...love love love them!!
Last Tuesday she was the support act of Snarky Puppy in Amsterdam and since then I'm in love with this song!
Cory Henry absolutely killin it on the rubato section
Who else is here in 2020 still listening to this 🔥
Beautiful, funky, and unique
I told my wife I have fallen in love with this sweet voice! Magnificent!
I remember this song a long time ago.
-she has to have one the sexiest voices I've ever heard
Jesus this song is addictive.
Awesome musicians making beautiful music. One would think that more people would strive for this quality. These are the guys that deserve the headlines.
Music is truly an overjoying emotion. This puppy is really snarky and Magda has an incredibly sensual voice. Thanks !
Its crazy to me how with a 3 count, and one bar of piano intro the whole band picks up the groove immediately. So impressive.
Still love this video. Such a smooth breeze of music.
Right? I keep coming back to this
The Voice of Mongolia 2022 brought me here.
THIS right here proves that music.. just good music has NO borders... a Brazillian samba / bassa nova played by an American band, sung in PERFECT French by a Greek woman. This also shows the pure magic that can be created by artists at the absolute top of their game. Every single musician on that stage is world class in every respect.
Ooooooooh I love this so muuuuch!!! Her voice is so sweet! ^_^
Bouquets des roses
Chansons qui parlent que d’une chose
Amour, amour
Tremblement de terre
Collier qui porte mon bonheur
Amour, toujours
Amour, t’es là?
Amour, je cherche ton schéma
Amour, c’est toi?
Amour, pourquoi tu te caches de moi
Rêve des bisous
Deux mots, qui caressent le cou
Amour, amour
Monde à l’envers
Qui va porter mon bonheur
Amour, toujours
Amour, t’es là?
Amour, je cherche ton schéma
Amour, c’est toi?
Amour, je sais pas vraiment
Amour, pourquoi?
Amour, pourquoi tu te caches de moi?
Chaque matin je me lève, je me lève très tôt
Pour aller au boulot
Ce matin j’ai l’impression
Quelqu’un va repondre à ma question
Amour, t’es là?
Amour, je cherche ton schéma
Amour, c’est toi?
Amour, je sais pas vraiment
Amour, t’es fou
Amour, je te cherche, t’es où?
Amour, pourquoi, amour
Pourquoi, tu te caches de moi?
LOL it's "chemin" not "schéma"
it is schema
I hear chemin as well
I'm french and it is chemin
Merci pour les paroles
yeahhhhh snarky .... freakin awesoem puppy and a greek musician .... and yes greece prevails .... nice combo
Magda's voice is just silky. Everything about this is just perfect.
her voice is so beautiful
It's the beautifully breathy voice...shivers!
I love how excited she gets when she starts listening at how great it sounds!
La chanteuse est incroyable, un Français impeccable ! Belle decouverte !
Je remerci enormement Snarky Puppy feat ,car je les ai conue l`annee derniere a Noord sea jazz a Den Haag,Nederlands.
Beautiful.
I have no clue what she's saying but I am so in love with this song!! I've never heard or seen the accordion played so cool ever before! The musicianship is so awesome!!
I've seen Magda and her band live here in Italy, the best experience in my life
Magda is greek, but her french accent is almost perfect
Well, I was just scrolling down the comments to find out what's the deal with that weird accent haha ! It seems to be quite good but she puts way too much emphasis on that "r" sound. No hate though, perfecting an accent is not easy !
Sauf que c’est justement l’impection de ses voyelles trop ouvertes qui rend parfaite la sensualité de son français à elle :-)
My fav part is from 3:12 - 4:08 . Idk what shes saying but i really love how she delivers it!!!!!!! Makes me really like her lol
GOODNESS the percussion going into Magda and Cory having a musical conversation....
Came here from The Voice of Mongolia 🇲🇳
I want to know who the 9 folks were who did NOT like this video...because this performance was SPECTACULAR!!!!
Big dummies with no ears
People who hope to matter more, by shitting on greatness???
Me too!!
J German. n uug1qq121
Justin Bieber fans probably :D
Cory happy @1:19
Like sweet syrup being poured into my ears by an angel.
From this song on I was in love with her style! A few years ago I saw her life in Cologne - it was fantastic
Hearing her giggle at 3:53ish makes me love her even more than when i got to meet her in Boone! Best dancing music! Magda come back to Boone with snarky sometime!!
This is real music. I thought that real music had died listening to the screams and ugly words that accompany them, so much so, that I had stopped looking for new talented artists.
I am doubly proud as an American Greek, to see and hear Magda Giannikou on her way to becoming a household name in the very near future. She is a all round musician.
She will be added to the recent surge of Greek artists too numerous to mention shinning brightly in the US, France, and other countries. ‘Amour t’es La’ will undoubtedly become a big hit and probably Ase me na bo’. Bravo. Nase kala Magda, efcharisto, kai eis anotera.
'real. music is subjective,
Magnifique LatinO ........et puis l'accordéon et la chanson ça peut donner ça aussi ...................BravO
My God. Perfect, all of it. The sound of that Rhodes at the end just slays me. Heaven. Sigh.
Goosebump factor of 10!
This song is soooo cool. Makes you feel so happy!!
What is the matter with me? I'm such a sucker for Pop Music. These people are brilliant.
Sput and Nate are amazing. S.P. presents songs in so many different rhythm styles and they are always so perfect at each of them. I can't think of any other time the band has used a bossa nova rhythm but, they make you move to this one. Their New Orleans beat in Quarter Master - you can't sit still. Their combined effort on the whole Sylva album shouldn't go unnoticed and Nate has one of the best all time cow bell entrances during The Clearing.
I am in love with song!!!
it's not just you!
Such a great groove! I've been playing drums and percussion since 1984 and oh how I wish that I had listened to music like this growing up. Not only music like this with the Afro-Cuban rhythms, but also artists like Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, and others. It would've made me a more well-rounded player, and I needed that jazz/Latin background while playing in my high school jazz band and especially in my college jazz band. What can I say? My parents didn't listen to it, my friends didn't listen to it. I knew my rock and roll and the Top 40 from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I knew that stuff inside out and backwards, which has definitely paid off, so no regrets.
Spotify recommended this to me. More awesome to see it in video format. Great jam, great band, great singer (who's apparently multi-lingual?)! Thank for playing this!
