He helped the Stones acquire the reputation of being the greatest rock band in the world. He ‘s certainly not underrated as far as true Rolling Stones fans are concerned. They acquired their reputation as the best live rock band because of his ability on guitar.
@@johnbland3642 He's underrated. Sure he's known to Stone fans but If you ask any non Stones fan who Mick Taylor is most of them wouldn't have a clue. As a matter of fact I think Terry Kath is one of the few guitarists who's even more underrated than Taylor.
@elevenb 1993...Yes, Mick Taylor is underrated, because he never put himself out there, never claimed credit for what he did, never made of spectacle of himself... and his guitar solo from the song Sympathy For The Devil, live, off of the album Get Yer Ya Ya's Out remains as the finest in class, and probably played off the top of his head, on the spot, not planned....I first heard it on 8-Track tape back in AD 1970, as a 12-year old, and it still sends shivers up my 65 year-old spine. Yes, Goats Head Soup, was the last good album from the Stones....after that, the Stones changed, more commercial rock, than the old old rock, which was that what sprang from within them, and made them famous.
He actually claimed credit for what he did but Jagger / Richards would not give such credit, this is probably the main reason why he left the band. I have seen various interviews where he is very nice and does not really speak up, but for me it is clear that he was and probably is very pissed.
Magnifique Taylor
Kieth Richards was definitely the Stones 2nd guitarist during the 5 years Taylor was in the group. And it's no coincidence the band's best albums were also between 1969 & 1974.
@@StevieZero For some reason , on my first reading of your comment, I thought that your "he" was a reference to Mick Taylor, and not Keith Richards. I now see that I misread the comment. Therefore it would seem that we are perfectly in agreement, after all.
After Brian Jones passed, John Mayall of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers told Mick that he had a 19 year old guitar player that could play the blues like no other. Mick Taylor played for the Stones once and he was hired and still is the best musician the Stones ever had. Keith Richards calls Mick Taylor a virtuoso.
Give a listen to "Blues from Laurel Canyon " by John Mayall, Mick Taylor ,lovely riffs ,solos and licks, it was before he joined the rolling stones, so he was quite young
taylor is soooooooo gooooood!!! personally i think he is as good as clapton, but maybe more jazzy, and clapton was more bluesy.. but taylor is more endearingly melodic. He was by far, by a long long long way, the best musician in rolling stones.
kshitij aurora I know you posted that Six years ago, and I do respect your opinion but Mick Taylor was not the best musician in the Rolling Stones. However he was the best guitar player. Brian Jones was the best musician, he played multiple instruments like the auto harp, piano, harmonica, sitar, and of course electric guitar and was one of the first in England to play slide guitar. But Mick Taylor was definitely the best guitar player they had!!!
The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK, to keep Mick Taylor in the band. For starters, they could have PAID him. He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals. In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band. They did not... With all due respect to Keith Richards---on Mick Taylor's WORSE DAY, Keef couldn't hold a candle to him. Make no mistake, Keith Richards is a very good guitarist. Mick Taylor is a GREAT guitarist. A guitar genius. Right up there with Hendrix, Clapton, and Santana. No doubt about it. The five albums he produced with the Stones from '69-'74 are all classics. The band was never the same after 1974.
Saw MT years ago with Alvin Lee. Insane, but the were the BACK UP ACT for Black Sabath! Crazy great set brought the roof down. Sabbath played a couple songs after them as people started filing out. 1981 or so.
He's more persistent that Clapton . Clapton bends better but Mick plays 5 notes while Clapton plays 2. Just different styles. I personally like the machine gun attack of Taylor.
Released with Carla Olson, approx. 1990, but I can't remember which album. I'm not sure if Mick has songwriting credits, or it's Carla, or both. If you're a Taylor fan, you have to get "Too Hot for Snakes". Live performance with Olson and her band. Ian McLagan is on it.
This was'n't ever released, these were from DEMO'S we did in NYC/Euphoria studios 1990. I'm drumming on this and there are 3 others I have here on cassette, someday I'll finish them with Mick Hopefully. 2 we co- wrote while on tour 1989/ Clapton -South America .
Taylor el mejor guitarrista de los Stones cambio el estilo sonidos y los mejores discos Mick Taylor y Brian Jones. Lo mejor y más fantásticos de los Rolling Stones.
No doubt that Mick Taylor elevated the Stones to their highest peak, but the riffs in this song reveal that, at the same time, he might have just picked up one or two things from Keith along the way. I wish he'd never left the band.

His days with the Stones molded and influenced him greatly. I wish Jagger would have done a solo album with Taylor. Keith had nothing to do with Sway or Moonlight Mile. I dont blame Taylor's departure on the Stones never achieving greatness again. They have continued with some good stuff. But every band eventually hits the song writing wall.
