battlefield 1 fan just came by ...thanks for assault rifels
information
I was not aware of the Cei-Rigotti as being considered one of the earliest Assault Riffles. Great work as always.
Wow. It's true what they say, "new inventions don't just appear overnight." All of these started a lot earlier than I thought and advanced at incremental levels until they became viable designs.
Its crazy to think about it
It took decades of experimentation from all across the world to perfect the Automatic Rifle. Very few of these designs rarely saw wide scale production and use. The STG-44 being the first ASSAULT RIFLE to see wide scale production and use.
Even as a student of history it wasn't till I saw some of the weapons in BF1 did I think that intermediate cartridge design came way earlier than expected. This game has given me a stiff education on all types of prototype assault and SMG style weapons and now your video blew my mind with the expansive nature of the prototypes fielded in WW1. You won't learn this in school
I cant find ANYTHING on the Shisei Type Hei! where can i get more pictures and information about it?
Watch his Video about 5 japanese prototypes the needed in ww2. In this Video he explains more about this weapon. I was interested too with same problem
The fedorov looks like a assault rifle just look the range beating the range of the kalashkinov 1947
You left out the attempt to turn the N1 mk3 SMLE into an auto loader. In fact quite a few were made. An Australian Ioan Idriss of the Australian light Horse submitted plans for a SMLE auto loader during the first world war but it never went anywhere. It latter came up between the wars and finally designed to work by a New Zealander named Phillip Charlton in 1941 and was produced in limited numbers. It was made in New Zealand and in Australia by ,of all people ,Electrolux. There aren't many around these days.
what about the BFG 9000?
I really like the Ferodov and the Breda,
Good video :]
Awesome Video!
Jetzt weiß ich woher dein Waffenwissen stammt. ;)
thanks
keep posting!
Man look at how the weapons changed each one that came out ended up with a better design up until the STG-44 was ready for battle in some numbers a number of designs today use some of the ideas from the STG-44.
A lot of these technically are not "true" Assault Rifles, but rather different types of Automatic Rifles. By definition, an Assault Rifle has to be a Select-Fire weapon, meaning it has to have a switch that allows the user to alternate between Semi, Burst, and Auto fire. It must also have an ammunition type developed specifically for it. This ammunition type is called an Intermediate Cartridge, usually a middle ground sized bulllet. Not too small like a Submachine Gun, but not too large, like a Battle Rifle. The earliest weapon on this list that fits this criteria would actually be the Mkb-42, which later evolved into the STG-44. Great video regardless!
I was literally looking for this comment
What about the MKb-35? It's chambered for 7.75x39mm
Wow thanks for explaining,I was confused on what a real assault riffle was.
The M2 is in MASH all the time
Cei Rigotti is probably the first assault rifle ever. Even if it never where adopted by any army, it was produced for testing but nothing more than that. The 1907 SL is also one of the wery first assault rifles that went truh a modification by the French army, they modified it to become one if not the first assault rifle used by an army. Wery informative video!
I would say the intermediate cartridge is one of the most defining factors of an assault rifle which would remove things like the federov from the list as it still uses a high-power rifle cartridge.
I believe the Winchester 1907SF is the true first modern assault as it uses an intermediate cartridge a short carbine length and select fire
Well it was mostly semi automatic and for civilian fox hunting and police but yes I agree.
jmantime you change music?, can you tell me name of older music?
If there's anybody who speaks german, you would laugh loud if you read the Name at 11:53 : Grossfuss-Sturmgewehr (original: Großfuß)
Translated it means "Big foot"....I know thats the Name of the constructor, but its still funny! ;D
Where is the B.A.R M1918? It is considered to be an assault eifle because it is light enought for walking fire and also it had no bypod.
the vollmer m35 was on the point of adoption by the wehrmacht when they got wind of the mkb42h and they switched their interest to that
Source please. I like this gun and thouht all the time about why they didnt adapt it. It vouöd have been the turning aspect in close quarter combat like Stalingrad.
What the song in the background
hey jmantime I saw a picture titled "sako prototype rifle 1956" small arms illustrated. I tried to find more pictures but I couldn't find it. Could you do me a favour and try to find it, If you have some time?
i'm looking into it now
OK thanks
Awsome
Imagine a Wehrmacht with Vollmer M35. It could have been the turning Tide for Stalingrad. Or a Japan wkth Shisei Type Hei. That would have been a big advantage for Japanese soliders against the USA, although they still needed Ressources. Or Italien solideres with the Breda PG. Although here the industrial capcity were to low and they needed capable tanks
Isn't Fedorov Avtomat a battle rifle? It uses a rifle round (weak one, sure, but still), not an intermediate one.
The last modifications of it used 7.62x39 and I'd say its earlier usage qualifies as assault rifle.
@@deeznutz5825 Are there any photos of Fedorov in 7.62×39mm? Or any documents about it in general?
And no, it's earlier (original) usage is that of an automatic rifle, so BAR or Chauchat - it was meant to assault enemy trenches and positions and provide immediate support in case of a rapid enemy counterattack. The main difference is that it was used in two man teams consisting of the gunner and the ammo bearer. Plus it usesrifle ammo, not intermediate one anyway, so even if used as an individual weapon, it would be a battle rifle.
Music is depressing.
An Assault is an operation, not a weapon. Go back far enough in time, and stones were the weapon of choice for an assault.
But an "assault rifle" is a weapon type! So please think about what you're doing before you write your next comment!
It's a made up "type" a creation of the media, not arms manufacturers. You need a few decades of further learning, and experience before spouting off such nonsense.
+beardo52 Not all classifications for firearms we use were made by arfms producers
+beardo52 Dear beardo Sturmgewehr is assault rifle in german, is not creation from media. You are wrong.
German firearms with a catchy name are not the subject of this thread, nor germane to my comment. In the U.S. the Media has managed to stick this shabby and dubious label on a certain type of firearm.(and the poorly informed public has picked up on it. As I previously stated, an Assault is a military operation, and not applied to the infantry Rifle. Just because Reich's Industrie came up with a name that they hoped would beguile Hitler, (he had vehemently disapproved of the program, and they were not sure if they would end up in prison for disobeying their unstable leader.) At any rate Voko, while there is a rifle that has that name, it does not bear weight in the U.S. argument.
👍
BAR should be on the list. box mag, single or full auto fire. it is called the Browning Automatic Rifle, not LMG
Patrick Young And it weight of about 7 kilos/15 pounds. That's usually too light for an light machine gun. :D
Sorry, the BAR fires a full size rifle round, the 30-06 , so it would be a Battle Rifle, an Assault Rifle has to fire an intermediate size round, like the 5.56x45 NATO.
Drew G But the Federov/Fyodorov Avtomat fired the japanese (full size-) rifle cartridge. So the as the "first assault rifle" called gun is NOT an Assault Rifle? ... Weird. :)
But a Battle Rifle is very (very very) similar to an Assault Rifle. (It just has a bit bigger ammunition) =]
+Mister Bone their ammo are shorter
Patrick Young No. It fires a full-sized cartridge. Thirty ought six.
I LIKE U R VIDEOS T6HANKS ...
7,92×33mm kurz , not cofond wit 7,62×39 russian * !
ok so alot of these dont count as assauly rifles more eerly self loading rifles and battle rifles
+caeleb kackowski
no, i already made a video on early self loading rifles and battle rifles, these rifles all fire intermediate rounds and were lighter than the battle rifles of the day , for example the BAR or Johnson rifle
Reply ·
ya but most of these are not assault rifles
alot of these dont classify as an assault rifle
+caeleb kackowski Main criteria for determination one weapon as assault rifle are ability to fire automatically and usage of intermediate cartridges. Pistol grip is nonessential criteria.
+jmantime sorry, but youre wrong. the mist of them shoot fullpowered rifle cartidges, like carcano. but they are so "weak" that they couldt count as assaultrifle cartridges, for the most modern americans and eurpeans.
Mexican Mondragon used by Germany in WW1????
Stanis Ferrari the was a semi-automatic rifle
jmantime it's true!!!! :)compliments, very nice video!!!!!!!!! :)
+Stanis Ferrari It was used by troops assigned to zeppelins.
Wait....did you forget the FG42? And the Johnson light machine gun? Why? They would both count as ARs wouldn't they? Is it the caliber of the ammunition that disqualifies them in this case? Because otherwise both weapons were toggle-fire, handy, relatively short-barreled firearms.
Rare ignorant do as more coming date of inport days!
1st one is STG 43 or 44
What of import information of rare helicopter or attack copter information person not

assault rifles are either semi auto or automatic,
either way u think it good, it still an assault rifle
Yes, but M2 and M3 Carbine are select fire
The Fedorov Avtomat it is the world's first assault rifle
Well it was more like a light machine gun due to the cabirar of projector it fire
