    My Mum had a dress exactly like your first one, the brown one, except the collar was full and it didn't have pockets at the hip She wore it everywhere and looked great in it. She definitely had a matching belt, but it was with a self covered belt buckle. That style was worn a bit looser, and was brought it by the belt. I love these dresses so much.

    Wow I have such an appreciation for how much skill it takes to make a garment the proper way in one day. I’m currently trying to finish a linen dress like the red one you made and it has taken me 3 days. I still have just the hemming to do and there’s definitely several flaws. I’m giving myself a little grace since I decided to pick up sewing again after a 20 year break from it and it’s a learning curve to remember what to do. Also, I chose to make something that had features I’ve never done before like shirring, a button placket, fully lining the bodice and a panel skirt to match up with all the seams. I decided to make a princess seam bodice. I know I’ll get better but darn that was hard! Thanks for the great videos and for inspiring me to get back into sewing.

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  11 місяців тому

      Oh that one took me a couple of days to finish, too! It definitely still takes time to finish even simple garments. And it's great you're tackling some of the more advanced techniques! :)

    Oh, these are so great! I also want to thank you for showing me how to approach sewing with linen. I bought a few lengths of linen recently, and pre-washed them, leaving me with crinkly fabric to work with, even after pressing. I knew that linen will do this, and I was sort of looking forward to that relaxed, “summer” look. But it made me a little nervous to be working with fabric that wasn’t completely flat and crisp. Watching you work with it has helped me see past my irrational apprehension. So, thank you. 😊

    Love the vibes both dresses give you: olive is perfect for business and the terracotta is romantic. Both lengths are perfect on you. Your dart markings are wonderful. How do you do that so well?

    They both turned out so great! I love that olive utility dress...that would even be cute in the fall/winter with a turtleneck or long sleeve tee and boots. Thanks so much for showing the hidden placket steps -- I think they're also in the Byrdie Button-up instructions (??), but helpful to see it constructed from scratch here! Also nice to see the shirring on a mid-weight linen...I've only tried it on really light fabrics, but it works so well on the rust sundress!

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! That olive dress would be so cute layered for fall, for sure! And the shirring worked beautifully on the linen 🙌 very comfy and I feel like the linen was esepcailly easy to manage for that step (compared to some of the lighter weight fabrics I've tried it on).

    Those are both great. The olive one has a very safari vibe with the large breast pockets (pockets that are large and on the breast, not pockets that are on large breaststroke, haha) and the chunky belt and belt loops. And I love the straight, squared off button up neckline on the other one. I usually see shirring (which i don't know ow how to pronounce), the top front is just straight across. The top button being open adds so much flattering shape. Thanks for the inspiration.

      @PatternScout it is but am going to buy the iron for sure. It looks like it works like magic/beast, just like those normal iron. It's so small and cute.

      I found that one at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. I've searched all over the internet trying to find one similar and have had zero luck, which is crazy! It's so handy!

    I think it's still better to make my own pattern with my own
    measurements. Just saying!

    Why do you make pattern adjustments look so easy? They are not. 😭
