I have an Ariens 824 that my dad bought in 2003 and besides the basic maintenance and upkeep, I have had no issues with it and it still runs like a boss! When it does come time to upgrade, I am definitely sticking with Ariens.

Have the same here. Just routine maintenance, and it serves me well, here in Michigan, on a big corner lot. Do ours and a couple of neighbors that need help too. Just replaced the scraper this year and flipped the skids (friction disc's still ok).

My Ariens 824 is now over 20 years old and still works like new. Don't be afraid to splurge on the model you really want, if you maintain it properly it will last for decades and over that amount of time the price difference is insignificant. My next one may be a Rapid Track...and not because I absolutely need it, but simply because I want it.

How cool is that, and we agree with you 100%. Taking great care of your equipment will do nothing but extend the life and that’s what all of us want.

That may not be needed, a channel by the name of Taryl Fixes All is doing an experiment with 8 fuel stabilizers and 87+93 octane gas. They start the engines once a month, and so far, all except one have proven to be snake oil. K100 failed in the first 6 months.

I have the same model, but mine is a 2016, his is a little different as far as the lettering on the control panel. I would recommend it for places that get a foot or more of snow at a time. It even blasts through the snow plows wash at the end of the driveway with relative ease. I didn't change the original oil in it for 7 years and it is in top notch shape. When you turn it off you should do it by shutting off the fuel line and that will keep your carb clean.

I did buy an Ariens a couple weeks ago....granted mine is seven days older than water and I only gave $60 for it, but once I added a new fuel shut off valve, new sheer bolts, a new eye bolt for the directional crank handle and a new old stock wing nut for the top of the chute it was as good as new. Total spent including the machine itself, about $90. No need for headlights because I have no intention of running it at night, though I may add one to be seen when I'm down by the road. No electric start, but it always starts on the 2nd pull. It's a 1965 Ariens 10M4 Sno-Thro and has more steel in it than 3 new machines, lol. I've always used non-ethanol gas as the nearest station, a CountyMark, sold it exclusively but they sold the station to a Casey's and now it has ethanol. But, my local Ace Hardware sells non-ethanol 93 octane gas for all the Stihl power equipment they sell so I'll just buy it there from now on.

I have a Ariens 32'' professional snowblower and i am very satisfied going into my 5th winter .powerfull 420cc engine. i never leave it outside.i bring it out 1 hours before using it so it takes the outside temp. and when the job is done i clean it as much as possible outside and let the rest melt in the garage. never had one problem to this day. start manually max 2 cranks.Never use the electric starter. but i should use it more often for it has never runned and does not seem to work because of that ? it is new. But this year i will ask the dealer to look into that so it does work and this year i will use it more. GReat snoblowers these Areins. They cost a lot but do the job

I have a John Deere 828D (made by Ariens) I bought in 2000. It has the 8hp Tecumseh engine. Runs great and is powerful. I used to have a stone driveway so this model was recommended because it has a cast iron gearbox. Not sure which current model has that but I would highly recommend it. Also I see the chute now has a notched adjustment. I don't like that because when you are moving and need a fine adjust a continuous lever is easier. I couldn't tell if yours has the locking differential but that sure makes it easier to maneuver in tight places.

Friction disk like Ariens, unless this one is hydrostatic like Honda and I have no idea, you better not shift gear while it's moving.
It's very useful to do that tho for moving the ejection on the go tho.

    • @moog38yearsagoupdated1mont9
      @moog38yearsagoupdated1mont9 3 роки тому

@@Lakecenterlawncare not saying it won't work but it damage it. You force the friction disk a way you don't want it to move. It's like that with most snowblowers that has that.
Anyway, other than to reverse, I don't see why you would need to change speeds that often.
You don't need to go at full speed most of the time, usually go always low to not force it too much for no reason. And only go a faster speed when you are done and moving it into the garage or something.

I feel your pain. I have a 2004 Craftsman. It never fails to disappoint. Check everything in the Fall. Looks great. Second snow wheel drive bels shreds. You can not run it in high snow on the same side as the spark plug as it melts the snow and kills the engine. Electric start is great but you can pull on the cord for 20 minutes without getting it to start. This year the auger belt shredded. Ariens is in my future but I was hoping to get another year from the old Craftsman.

My 2 cents, save your money...I bought my Ariens $1150 new. It's my 3rd Ariens snow blower. The first two lasted 20 yrs each. This new unit is 3yrs old and I've had too many issues I never saw with previous units. When I need it most it either won't start or the drive belt is off. How does this happen....easy, if any part of the drive mechanism freezes and you move the machine, the belt comes off. When it does run, it's a beast. Goes through anything nature can throw down. Just so happens, it's minus 4 right now and it wouldn't start. Pulled plug and it was soaked. Aired out, add starting fluid, boom, started. Went to pull unit out of garage and NO drive, forward or reverse. What a peice of crap.

A few of my snow customers figured out that $20 per visit x 4 plows was far cheaper that $1000 and worrying if it would star, throw too light or too wet snow, heart attack and so forth,. Nope. I DO MY OWN...MY WAY. MY STANDARDS. I had ONE truck come plow me out ONCE & it took MONTHS to repair my driveway & lawn... he tore it up by NOT LISTENING(but you men NEVER listen to a woman!!!): I told him to drag backwards FIRST, from the parking pad as a blade drop-guage & he plowed forward, gouging both the driveway & lawn... Exact same problem and I have intermittent back muscle spasms when working stooped-over, for extended periods of time. After MUCH looking and measuring handlebar height, I finally found the perfect machine for "extra-tall" operators and purchased in 2018 (link:) www.cubcadet.com/en_US/snow-blowers/3x-26inch-snow-blower%C2%A0/31AH5DVA710.html

@Gage snowblowers use a magneto(hopefully I got the correct word). It's under the flywheel. If you already have a light or grips, then you know your blower has one, if you don't have those features, your engine may not have one. Also, when adding load to it, you need to find out its max capacity. Most have very limited output capability.
You can buy snowblowers with onboard battery start, but I think even those all use magnetos.

Question for ya, I also own a deluxe 28 although its not labeled SHO. I got it second hand. Its a five year old unit and Ive had it three seasons now. With the unit warmed up, throttled and choked properly (off) , it hunts on the rev limiter when idling but runs and thrown snow fine under load. Ive been told this is normal, yet yours doesn’t appear to do that. Whats your thoughts?

      r2d2326
Thanks for watching & have you been running recreational fuel through the tank? It’s very possible that it’s slightly gunked up inside....maybe...
An additional thing that people run into as their snowblowers age is the vibration leading to issues.
It’s very possible that your choke is slightly less tense as it was when new and the vibration of your snowblower while running may be slightly adjusting your choke ... which leads to an unbalanced fuel-to-air mixture thus you get that hunting as you mentioned.
      Keep us posted.

    • @lanfin3644

You have the Deluxe model. The Deluxe SHO is also a Deluxe, but slightly better with the performance. People say it's normal, but it is not. Even the old Tecumseh engines with clean carbs don't surge like that. It is second hand, so the carb gunked up a little. Clean the idle jet in it will fix idle surge most of the time.

Large wheels is the best feature, my 22" Ariens has small wheels = little ground clearance, and gets stuck in the snow thrown by the city plows. Be sure to remove the wheels and grease the axle every 2-3 years. Unfortunately, all later small Ariens snowblowers (and other brands) use friction discs for traction which wear very fast, inferior rubber band quality. My friction disc lasted 5 years, you need some tools to DIY. Older Ariens made 20-30 years ago had much better traction discs. Also, the OHV engines don't start well after summer storage, although there are some things you can do ua-cam.com/video/FxZFRYCaEDs/v-deo.html

I had this issue a bit but it's perfectly fine once I switched to the poly skidshoes ones. Some snowblowers are slightly misaligned, ariens did a vid on that, two bolt to unscrew a bit then flatten the auger scrapper bar on a flat surface then tight the bolts again. It help greatly. I would suggest to do that each year to ensure it's perfectly aligned. Takes 5 minutes.

I have the same machine. I grew up using a Jacobsen... That thing chocked down everything upstate NY had to offer. The Ariens is a total POS... Let me say this again A TOTAL POS! First off, the auto-turn, turn assist, whatever they call it - it make normal operation more difficult because it engages at the slightest hint of a turn.. like when you hit a small imperfection in the driveway, compacted snow the tires, your feet or a car made. The front end is so light it rode up on the snow instead of through it which, was exacerbated by having to hold the retard handles down to keep the POS auger and wheels engaged. Yes you can let go of the auger handle but everyone you let go of the wheel handle... You have to repeat the interlock process - just make the auger stay on or some other way to engage each system so you can manipulate the rest of the machine. I have a 40' x 15' driveway... It took an hour to blow and I shoveled most of it. My neighbor bought the same model... Same issue and his stalled with every attempt to engage a small drift of snow. Overall, I'm stuck with this PoS, so I'm going to 'modify' this thing into something that really works, or will fit neatly into my garbage can for a Thursday pickup.... It is that bad. For the money spent and the agrivation and modification I'll have to do... I'd rather hire someone and sip hot chocolate while watching .

hahaha foot per pounds. Good lord, can't Ariens put the correct lb ft measurement on it? Ariens, are you listening? Your customers believe the Chinese LCT engine has 15 foot per pounds. I recommend E50 with a Nitrous shot. Don't forget to spray oil/was/lithium grease on all parts before operating. E10 is fine, and it doesn't require non-ethanol gas. Just FYI bc some ppl might think it does after watching this vid and probably will have a hard time finding a non-ethanol gas station.

Yes you should buy an Ariens if you want to pay to have the carb cleaned every yr. Or if you want to pay $35 a gallon for special gas. Or deal with it only starting when it wants to. Or the terrible customer service. So yes you should absolutely buy a TORO.

Or you can but Stabil for 11 bucks. Works perfect. Carbs are easy to clean anyway.
