In this video we're taking a look at all the main parts to the Queensryche classic "Queen Of The Reich" (except for the guitar solo to be covered in a later video).
The song comes from the bands 1983 Self titled EP, which also contained another classic song "The Lady Wore Black."
In "Queen Of The Reich" you can clearly hear the bands metal roots, especially Iron Maiden on the musical side of things. What really sets this apart from other bands is the amazing vocals of Geoff Tate.
Although the band would move on from this straight up metal sound in favor of more complex and progressive arrangements, the song remains a staple in the Ryche live set and is a bonafide classic.
Guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton work together here with complimentary guitar parts, sometimes playing different parts and other times doubling the same riffs.
As you begin to tackle the riffs make sure your picking and fretting hands are in synch and that everything is clear, especially on the faster sections.
Standard tuning. Enjoy!

Great tune..the beginings of the band.. crusing in my 1970 cutlass playing this EP on casette wearing it out.. lady wore black also a classic
🤘
Such a kickass song. DeGarmo was really the lifeblood of the band. Great choice for a lesson Nick.
Agreed 👍
He and Tate had such great chemistry.
Nick doing Queensryche is the best!
Right on, thanks…more to come!
Thanks for another great post Nick. Really well done! Look forward to learning this one.
Thanks bro!
Seein em tonight! Can’t wait!
🤘
Bought the album in 83 ..still have it . Yes , please do 'The Lady Wore Black' or 'Speak' . Thank you ! Love you boss man !
👍
Killer lesson Nick, Queensryche is an amazing band! This is one of their greatest for sure. Great explanation of the main riff. Never learned this one by ear, so it was very helpful 👍🏼. Rock on!!! 🤘🏼
It’s tricky to hear everything clearly on this tune. Even the solo is a little wacky…but awesome!
This was such a heavy song when this ep was first released! I can remember it clearly as a 13yr. old. Wow...we are old aren't we Nick?? Lol!! After Queensryche came onto the scene out of Seattle, not long after...many bands with similar sound and vocals were poppin' up from all over like Fates Warning and Lizzy Borden to name a couple. Awesome lesson as always! I'm still working on "The Last in Line" solo ha ha!! That one is giving me a little trouble remembering the long phrasing. Sending you some Aloha from Hawaii!!
Aloha bro! 🤘
DeGarmo,Wilton killer duo, Like Downing,Tipton
🤘
Man, I keep waiting for Tate's voice to kick in.
Haha, stay tuned, I’ve got a full cover of this coming with vocals very soon.
Ciao Nick, great job! Please do also the solo!
🎸
wow, awesome lesson Nick. This is one of my favorite songs from them, I was 12 years old when this EP came out, and a year later I got the itch to start learning to play guitar, now music has been my lifelong passion and hobby, so glad I got to see the original lineup in the early 90s for the hear in the now frontier tour, their still a good band. Wish goeff would go back with them, but at least now we have two versions of Queensrych right we can enjoy.
🤘🙂🤘
Saw Queensryche March of 2024 in Oklahoma City, they KILLED it on the older stuff w/ Todd on vocals, best concert of the year for sure
Awesome!
Killer job as always Nick!

Badass my dude! I love it! Any chance you'd break down Dissident Aggressor by Judas Priest and Can U Deliver by Armored Saint?
I will add those to my list. Great choices!
