This is a great conversation and a dialogue between well-accomplished women of very rich foreign policy backgrounds. I remember and admire the work of Secretary Albright whiles she served in government. All these ladies come to this discussion with a level of unmatched insight and impeccable leadership. A lot of relevant and pertinent issues have been raised in this conversation but the overarching theme, that one shouldn’t forget in addressing the subjects raised here is that, a new thinking and approach is imperative in addressing the solutions needed to solve them or at least keep them at bay. One good old adage states, ‘a problem identified’ or if i can paraphrase, ‘ a problem understood is a problem half-solved’. It is only when a deeper and the requisite insight to a problem is attained, that the appropriate remedy can be prescribed. A key take away from this conversation and many others like it, is that many of these problems, with the exception of a few, are inherently problems that did not receive the best and most customized or tailored solutions in their infancy and have as such found a way to persist beyond the solutions that had been prescribed, only for them to come back with a vengeance.
First and foremost, it is indeed true that the world needs America to lead as mentioned by Ambassador Haley. However, the question we should be asking is; in what capacity?, to what degree should America lead? and at what cost to the average American (in what precedence should that leadership take in comparison to the overarching national agenda or the responsibilities the state has towards its citizenry) because believe it or not, America’s need to lead is forged primarily out of its commitment to represent and propagate the idles and values of its founding, among the community of nations, as bestowed on it by its citizenry. So why lead in a way that is detrimental to your survival as a nation both politically and economically? It is this disillusionment (that had been lying dormant in the hearts and minds of the electorate on how a string of campaigns like those in Iraq and Afghanistan had turned out) that Trump articulated so well, to confound the projections that had been made in the 2016 elections. If there were no such reservations among the populace, about the kind of leadership America had championed in the world, and its primary economic implications on the ordinary American, the abrasive nature of most of Trump’s rhetoric should have diminished his chances of winning but yet he won( winning states and counties that Republican Party has not won in decades). Why? Decoding the why factor will not only throw more light on what has been left ajar in pursuit of the ideal leadership America needs to pursue, but it will offer us a chance to fine tune its existing foreign policies and protocols, in order to marshal the type leadership that will not only be the envy of the world, but will reflect the expectations, the American citizenry has for its government. Without this, American leadership on the world stage will seem to be working and meeting the expectations of all other nations; allies and foes alike, whiles simultaneously falling short and ceasing to be effective from the perspective of its people. And it is that kind of thinking that sets the stage for a populist like Trump. His politics and style of populism, though it has an unconventional way of addressing the prevailing geopolitical and socio-economic issues, is not inherently wrong or right but is just a reflection of the vacuum, created over the years, by both domestic and foreign policies, that have always pointed outward and rarely sought to look inward to see how foreign policy can not only benefit allies but the US citizen as well. Because without citizen engagement, as clearly stated by Ambassador Haley, foreign policy degrades from a thing to be cheered as a unifying national agenda (America’s decision to enter WWI & WWII and the Marshall plan) and becomes the preserve of few political elites, who are often out of touch with how those policies affect the day to day life of the common man.So you end up with trade and security policies that should have garnered national support and be unifying, yet often becomes repulsive and degrades into a thing of contention on the ground with business owners and manufacturers, whiles at the upper echelons of power, it is hailed as the best thing to happen to the country ; causing a huge disparity between the perceived reality by pollsters versus the actual reality on the ground.
Moreover, a new way of thinking about solutions require America to learn from the other great powers of the day. In leading, there is nothing wrong with learning the ways of your competitors and devising better and wittier approaches to counter your opponents campaign. For many reasons of deterrence, It is great to have a strong military or command the finest armed forces on earth. However, what you may be missing is why you pursue a foreign policy that’s at its core is against your interests, your closest economic competitor, China has in the last decade, raised more than half a billion people out of poverty (by becoming the sole manufacturing hub for the industrial world, controls more than two- thirds of the global supply chain from rare-earths to pharmaceuticals all under an authoritarian regime that has little to no respect for human rights, cracks down on any form of dissent but one thing is does well is the institution of policies; be it trade, foreign or domestic, that puts the interest of its population first. Be it from the broad daylight IP theft in the policy it has towards companies seeking to do business in their country to the Great firewall which has allowed a lot of their IT companies to thrive with little to no competition) whiles back home, you wrestle with riots born out of a growing belief that the economic system, which made you as nation, is no more working for the majority of the people and are as such demanding for changes that all boils down to a desire to see policies that can help keep prosperity within the reach of the many who are from living paycheck to paycheck. So the question is should the USA go China’s route? Definitely not and neither can it totally ignore the expectations of its citizenry completely (For example, the scenario given by Dr. Rice where she compared automakers moving out of the US to Mexico, to German automakers. You see, that model or aspect of globalization no more works and if we want to salvage all the good that globalization can do, we should pivot and start taking a second look at some of the original ideas with which that concept was instituted. With her example, comparing the move of the German automakers to Alabama to the move of the American automakers to Mexico is on surface the same, but a deeper look will show that you are comparing apples and oranges. A second look at that scenario will show you that the German automakers are really not loosing any business in terms of jobs for Germans or revenue from sales but that move is actually a gain that will help them avoid certain tariffs or importation taxes whiles they can satisfy the needs of their American market. More jobs are created in America whiles the win the goodwill of potential customers who take pride in buying American made goods thereby boosting sales or increasing their baseline. So to them it’s a win- win situation. The cache here no American made German brand car will find its way back to the German market but the same cannot be said about American automakers who move to Mexico. You see to them, most of the time, their motivation is not about responding to needs of the Mexican or Canadian markets, it’s about going where labor is most cheap with the intent to manufacture the vehicles cheaply and ship it back to the states in a bid to keep pricing competitive. In the process of doing that, jobs are lost. Whole communities are ruined because livelihoods built around those industries are no more. The truth is without capitalism, there is no globalization. I’m yet to see a nationalized company from socialist company or regime have subsidiaries in other nations. Or move production to another nation to reduce the cost of production whiles providing jobs for the less privileged in the host country. That move in itself goes contrary to the tenets of socialism or communism. It is only China who has found a unique way of merging the best of both ideologies(communism(socialism) and capitalism) in a way that makes them formidable competitors that any well- meaning policy maker, will not take for granted. So for globalization to succeed, been that it is the poster child of capitalism, capitalism needs to succeed for the greater good. Yes, it may need some little tweaks here and there but as Secretary rice said, “you cannot the throw the baby out with the bath water”.

The democracy is find the common ground and support each other and work on issues together to solve issues, because nothing can’t be solved after voice are heard by efforts of togetherness, I guess. Don’t be mean and don’t be nasty to each other’s service and mistakes, but to unite each other by principles of Foundation and Constitution laws from learning experiences and our own generosity forgiveness and kindness nature toward each other’s service and mistakes as decency this time and reunite together again as one nation for one America’s future by our principles accompanied with our own generosity forgiveness and kindness nature this time and together again to achieve America’s continued greatness of freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities forever. Thanks for the former President Bush 43’s effort to provide us opportunities to learn more to understand more. I learned some important points from the former Secretary of the State Rice and the former UN Ambassador Halley. They are very knowledgeable for many things that we don’t know or know less. I also believe free trade, but by fairness and the principles of America’s greatness, deficit balance as well as for long run of America’s principles, prosperity, safety, freedoms and patriotism altogether. Often our country America’s own wisdoms by sufficient communication as the fairness, principles and sincerity for mutual better understanding for better results to avoid severe conflict as well as standing by America’s principles, patriotism and fairness and mutually beneficial as scratching backs by America’s strategy nature may produce the better results to boom America’s greatness of the job creation, financial balance, recognitions and values of America’s principles of the Capitalism systems of freedoms promoting, entrepreneurship spirit continuing and equality of opportunities as the fairness altogether. Also balance of the peace of the world as America’s respectful world leadership experiences. I guess I understand those former Governing leaderships’
Thinking logics and experiences. I also believe that when we have must think about one day we may don’t have. When we are safe, may assume one day may not save to do our best for our country America’s greatness and peace of the world. Always being prepared the strength in both economy and defense capabilities as our peace of the mind for any in case as unchanged principles to face or encounter variety of the sudden unexpected experiences as 911 incident. Fortunately, we were lucky that the former President Bush 43, Vice President Cheney, Congress and high leveled Generals as decision makers made all of safe at the time. Let’s forgive each other this time and unite together again by our generosity forgiveness and kindness nature this time to each other and unite together to focus on getting things done by our learning experiences from mistakes and get things done quickly together again afterward. Thanks President Bush 41and 43 again for our chance to learn more to understand more and do better things always together.

It is absolutely intriguing to hear Mrs Haley talk about the American leadership and what approach is taken against countries outside of the USA that interfere with the American elections. I couldn't help but examine the USA leadership stance in the DRC, a country in which for more than 2 decades estimated 18 million innocent women, children and men have died and continue to die at the hands of untrained Congolese leaders. These atrocious onslaughts are taking place under the watchful eye of the American leadership. What will it the USA to exercise sanctions against Kibila government? Hasn't this man committed enough crimes against humanity?

Thousands if not more die yearly due to this . Nothing in this world is FREE someone has to pay . I had great insurance before Obama Care , and I was one of millions who lost their healthcare completely , and I personally paid for my insurance through my company.

John Robinson-First I want to thank you for joining the discussion. The monetary and the emotional cost dealing with our medical system is tremendous. I was in Italy as a non citizen and I had a cat scan, saw 3 doctors including a urologist, blood test all within 2 hours and it cost me 175 euros, on the way out they gave me a type written report with the test results and the related computer disk. The best part is that I was waiting for the same test in the states, unfortunately the earliest appointment was the next month. Our medical system is based on a broken and corrupt business model.
We live in the richest country in the world that has a socialistic system for the rich only . Make America Smart Again.

The old style of Albright and Rice is past. Now it is time for some butt kicking and so far Haley is the right person for that. Having been over a decade with the UN, I can tell you that its top is all about position, approval levels (power), salaries, per diems (DSA) and meetings in lavish expensive hotels. Reducing funding for the UN will not impact its operations, they will just need to look for a 4 star hotel instead of a 5 star hotel. When introduced, it goes like this: This is Mr John Doe, he is a P-5. P-5 stands for Professional level 5, which brings him/her in budget salary scale $124K and his funding approval level may be up to $100K for example. He goes by his last name and his wife works in another department using her maiden name to avoid nepotism charges. It is a corrupt system! The auditor's wife may be the head of HR and he audits your operation. Sadly laughable!

Nikki is probably the best thing that Trump did. But she isn’t in the same league as Rice and Albright. I think she knows that and I think she may have 2 new friends in her speed dial.

....However, America cannot stay on its current trajectory when it comes to foreign policy, without making the requisite amendments to ensure its influence does not wane among the community of nations. Remember Rome was not conquered from outside but it crumbled from within, under the weight of the excesses of its over-indulgence, in pursuits that threatened its very existence. I believe foreign policy does not only encompass diplomatic relations, security accords or strategic alliances, but encompasses everything that has to do with the advancement of the American course on the world stage. There are so many things we can learn from China, Russia and other great powers to have a bigger and better outcome for every dollar spent on foreign policy.
For example, it’s often assumed that all China want to do is business in Africa and is not seeking to export any of its values or idles. This is far from the truth. Through the numerous university campuses in Africa(and even here in the USA. President Trump recently signed sweeping legislation aimed at suppressing the institute’s communist influence on college campuses), it is subliminally and in a non-confrontational way exporting its values, politics and communist beliefs to the future leaders and lawmakers of the next generation whiles preserving all their business or economic interests on the continent with little to no military confrontation or threats of economic sanctions. On the other hand, through trade deals that on the surface does not seek to impose or enforce any internationally recognized treaties on human rights, democracy, health or the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as strings on its loans, whiles it quietly gobbles up strategic infrastructure or assets in third world nations that when the time comes to propagate a foreign policy that will ensure the consolidation of their interests, they have the economic clout to go along with it. In 20 years, it is possible for a few of the budding yet shaky African democracies to fall back into the doldrums of communism because they can see the Chinese model works. I’ve heard Dr. Rice a few times and for the first time today, Dr. Albright sound a little too confident on the viability of some of these democracies in Africa. Most of these democracies mushroomed overnight from prior military dictatorships in the late 80s and early 90s, around a time where IMF and World Bank ‘conditionalities’ or structural adjustment programs, made it impossible to maintain a dictatorship and still govern in a way that will bring development; so most of these dictatorships transmogrified overnight into democracies lacking two Major things. An impartial constitution(not written to centralize power in the hands of the former dictator) and independent democratic institutions, that could work without interference from the head of state. So you ended up with democracies on paper, but still dictatorships in practice. The benefits of democracy the electorates were sold on, remains a fallacy. On the flip side, nation’s within the EU and USA alike, who demand some metrics or indicators as evidence of democracies, were gladly presented with those indicators oblivious of the reality on the ground. You then ended up with a facade that by demanding such human rights, corruption and other indices, you have successfully instituted a democracy, which is untrue. Most of these democracies are as strong as the economies in which they are. A strong economy empowers the people to exercise their rights within that democracy in a manner which those who are of a poor economy, can’t. When you are poor and hungry and do not know where your next meal is coming from, the last thing on your mind is how well you can participate in governance to your benefit. An example of this is it is the same system of governance being used all over mainland China, so why were all those riotous protests in Hong Kong originating from. It is because Hong Kong is financial hub and economic gemstone in the CCP’s sphere on influence. Because of its economic prosperity, ushered forth by the observation of principles that of democracy and free society, the citizenry armed with that knowledge are willing to die to keep it. Wherever there is poverty and economic subversion, intellectual darkness persists. Creating a background for the rise of the same social ills, America’s current foreign policy seeks to alleviate. This brings me to this; that Africa is ripe for its own Marshall plan from the USA. I was elated when Dr. Rice said Democracies don’t fight each other! and watched Dr. Albright reaffirm it at 40:15-40:20 . However, the overlooked fact here is that the European democracies like Germany and the Japan economy used to support Dr. Rice’s example are highly industrialized and wealthy economies. If indeed America wishes to see democracies become entrenched on the African continent, come the next generation, then that should be the new or revised foreign policy approach towards Africa. You see the twist here is, as compared to the European Marshall plan, if it is well orchestrated, it holds the promise of not only ameliorating the social and economic woes of the continent, a greater economic return and promise for the United States as well. The question is what is China seeing, that America isn’t?

22.26 - "Does the liberal democratic order have traction in the UN today, and how do you assert that"? Haleys answer had no substance what so ever, just a general rant, aka Trump. I like Haley, I think she's a nice woman but it's almost like she didn't understand the question. Forward to Condoleezza Rice 24.38. This woman gives you a sense of control, knows the history, even if you don't like her politics.
