    I absolutely love listening to you talk about books. Especially when you talk about your own collections and experiences. I like the process of looking at and acquiring books almost as much as I love reading them. Those RD editions look gorgeous. Looking forward to your bookshelf tour! 🤍

    I finally read "H is for Hawk" by Helen Macdonald. It sat on my shelf for at least two years before I picked it up. I loved it. I can't believe it took my so long to read it.

    If you're ever trying to get a UK edition, Blackwell's which is an indie bookstore in the UK ships to the US and shipping is included on the price, so they don't charge additional shipping.

      Those Night Circus books are genuine works of art and absolutely I can see why they are so expensive reading about them, but NOPE.... i do not have that kind of money and if I did I couldn't bring myself to spend it on a book. Thrilled for the people are getting themselves one, because I'm sure they will absolutely treasure it!

    Year-round library book sale sections are fantastic for inexpensive, great condition books. This week I found a signed copy of Amor Towles' A Gentleman In Moscow for $1!

      What a great find! Yeah, the bigger, more popular books you can find in great shape & for a low price at sales (or in used bookstores) a few years after they have their moment in the spotlight.

    I cannot imagine paying over $1,000 for a book. I find so many cheap books, that sometimes it's hard to pay over $5, haha! Fireflies, Honey, and Silk sounds so good! Need to add that to my bee collection.

    • @abookolive
      @abookolive  2 роки тому +1

      Right?! After coming home from a book sale with a bag of books that only cost $5 for the whole lot of them, it's hard to imagine paying that much for a single book. Like...I've got student loans to pay off! 😂

    That was a great phone call mom made! I think my most expensive book is the Waterstones exclusive Lord of the Rings bind up, it has Tolkien's' illustrations in it as well as gilded edges and it came with maps of the world as well. I'd been wanting a pretty collection of those for a while so even though it was over $100 plus shipping I just had to get it.

    There's some really beautiful books I want from Folio Society but with the CAD prices and shipping, they'll be over $400... my plan is to save over a year or two and pray they're still in stock lol
    At those prices, it's definitely not an impulsive purchase :D

    • @launchedathousand

    How cool that Emily D was the first book you remember buying. I could see her being a good first poet for a young woman. A lot of her poetry is the observation of nature. Not all of it is deep and complex so to read all of them provides a variety and can actually be a gentle intro to poetry. A more condensed collection of her poetry wouldn't have that effect.

    I thought you'd have more tbh
    I totted mine up a few years ago and i had around 1500 then.
    Every time i ran out of shelf space i just bought more shelves 🤦🏻‍♀️
    Then i moved to a smaller house and.... oops!!! I've had to be ruthless and am still weeding out ones that i won't ever read or reread.
    It's a constant process 😲
