A mate of mine was drinking in Largs a few decades ago. He couldn't get the key to his Capri in the door. A cop spotted him and asked him if he'd been drinking. Of course I have he said- clearly blotto and outside a pub. Said the cop 'be very careful then'.
Thank you for writing in with your interesting story ! The thought did occur to me with my story was that the police did see him stagger out of the club and chose to follow and observe his driving. I was wondering if they could have perhaps intervened earlier than they did, for example when they saw him getting into his car. During my career as a Probation Officer I did interview a number of Police Officers for Court reports following them breaking the law. Some were for Driving with Excess Alcohol. Some of them told me that they had previously been stopped by the police when he had been driving with excess alcohol and no action was taken and he was advised by his police colleagues to drive home carefully!
