Being a single father of a daughter, I appreciate these videos. The history that comes with the tutorials make it not so bad learning how to avoid making my daughter look like a clown. An easy "how to" guide video for fathers would be awesome.
Aw, admire you, Jonathan! I was raised solely by my Dad and he didn't know a thing about raising a little girl. He sent me to makeup classes back in the day, (no UA-cam back then, unfortunately) but how awesome that you are doing this for her! Way to go!! :)
Their isn't much I won't do to make her smile, even something I have no clue about and feel odd doing it. I did't grow up with sisters or a mother around, so I am lost most of the time. I am thankful for the internet and folks like yourself that use the KISS method. She learned to bait her own hook, so I can learn how to apply lip gloss. Seems fair, I guess.
+Jonathan Barron wow! i wish i had a father like you growing up. My sincere admiration for you and i wish your daughter knows what a great father she has.
I absolutely love this tutorial! In fact, my husband saw me watching it and he went out and bought me everything that you used and gave it to me for Christmas! Now I can recreate this amazing look! Keep doing what your doing!!
The "cat" eyeliner or heavily winged eyeliner was another defining feature of the 60s as liquid eyeliner became popular. It was influenced by Indian and East Asian heavy kohl eyeliner looks. If you look at Bollywood films from the 60s you can see how popular winged eyeliner was.
00's tutorial? I'd love to look back and see what was popular during my early days of makeup. And I'm sure teenagers and early 20's would appreciate seeing makeup before their time :)
It’s quite fascinating and interesting. My mom and dad were graduating in the 60’s . My dad in ‘64 and my mom in ‘68. This is probably what my mom did, just guessing! Her senior picture was in black and white, but she did the straight, slightly wavy hair with a flip at the end.
This channel is so amazing. You are just the cutest ever, too. Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, and Bridgette Bardot have always been so beautiful to me and I've always wanted to be daring enough to recreate those looks. This is fantastic. Thanks. x
I love, love love your historically accurate makeup tutorials. I am absolutely dying for a 1950's, Please keep up the lovely, and quite smart tutorials!
I'd love to see a Priscilla Presley make up tutorial. She is my biggest 60s icon. I have seen every single tutorial for her makeup on UA-cam and even google, I've even made one myself, and I'm always looking for ways to improve. Your tutorials are always on point so I'd love to see one!
In the mid 1960's you used foundation on your lips. No lipstick. Foundation also had oil in it back then, so it went on very smooth. The shadow was mostly dark, or sparkly green. This is one time I can assure you, that the 1960's actually had three styles in those 10 years, Early was Jackie Kennedy, Mid was even higher teased hair and the above info., and late was actually between collegiate, and a bit of Jackie Kennedy again, and the face colors were browns, and everyone had long straight hair. Most think the hippy started in the mid to late 60's, it didn't in the east, until mid December 1969. It really depended on where you lived. Then again, any 60's teen that graduated in the east by 1967 would choke you to death if you called them a Hippy!!! Remember, there was no communication back then, so it took a year for a "fad' to hit from East to West, or the other way around. Just some information from an old lady, that did indeed, go "Dancing in the Street" in Washington DC! What a blast! I still smile when I hear that song.
@ Shiela6525. True, Most was called panstick in the uk anyway, It was as you claim also worn on the lips, Mascara was also a small square box that was wet or spit on to moisten it so it could be used, High back combed hair styled usually shoulder length with a flick at the shoulder, Happy Days. Hippies was far more towards the end of the 1960s & early 1970s, It wasn't a big movement either like it is spoken about in movies, Very few people went that root, They had far more sense, Drugs was also around at that time but most again had more sense ,Been down hill ever since then with the drugs, Not many could say they refused drugs today, Very sad indeed!
Haha! You're too cute! I guess Twiggy is what everyone associates with the '60s, but I felt like the dramatic winged liner needed a spotlight. You just don't see enough of them! :(
Thank you so much for this tutorial! This has pretty much become my everyday look because I love the way the eyeliner brings out my eyes and its really fast and easy. And when I'm feeling adventurous I use a shimmery emerald eyeliner for a pop of color. Wonderful job!
Ouuu! Gorgeous! I love the idea of doing it in emerald! Wowza!! I'm busy working on the 1930s for November, so I will have a whole new one very soon .. hopefully! :D xoxo!
***** I can't wait to see it! I love the fact that you really research these videos. I was particularly impressed with the Ancient Egyptian video and the research you did for that one, as an historian and anthropologist/archaeologist I LOVE IT when people take the time to really get their information correct.
I have watched nearly every decade tutorial you have now, and I just have to say, you always look so gorgeous! This one and the Farrah Fawcett ones are my favorites though because they're the most natural looks. I just had to tell you you are stunning.
I watch makeup tutorials almost constantly and her series is by far my favorite. Doesn't take itself too seriously, a lot of fun, incredibly detailed and works with a wide variety of brands. What more can I ask for? Great work!
The history lesson is why I watch these. The 20's look was the first reason I watched your channel the other day, I was very curious to know the difference between what make up products were like/packaged back then. Now I've started watching other videos, including a Naked Palette look that I tried out and got a big compliment on at work. =)
I absolutely love how much research you put into these videos. I really like seeing people do historically accurate makeup instead of modern takes on it. Love those lashes as well, perfect shape for a 60s eye.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been very curious about makeup from the 20's to the 80's. Could you please continue the makeup tutorials to include some more of these years. Thank you so much. I really enjoy your tutorials.
i luv brigitte bardot makeup looks and never get tired of them. i like the dark eyes and toned down face so classic. i am going to try those mac lipstick combos it look so nice on you and i'm pretty fair skin myself so hopefully it looks as good on me as it did you.
Very well done! I was there in the 60s and cake eyeliner was thee thing. It was easy to carry in our purses or pockets for easy touch ups. It was all about the eyes. And let's not forget that Cher was a huge influence at that time too. Can't believe it was all those many years ago. :)
Maybe that was 60s makeup for the US, in Britain we followed twiggy with hard socket lines and eyelashes drawn on under the eyes. Also our lipstick was pale and mat. Miners makeup " the Palest" was the mods favourite shade. Dont know what rockers wore ...axle grease probably !
I love all of the history that you provide, and the ad clippings. And it's really cool to see my mom's era of how they wore their make-up. My mom really rocked this look in the old pics I see, she was stunning! You look great too, Zabrena :-)
Literally just now finding your channel and I am so addicted. I love the history that you're finding. It really brings the look to life by painting the picture of the time frame. Also, your skills are amazing!
OMG! I was very skinny and cut my hair very short like Twiggy and wore makeup in bright blues with thick eyeliner in a wing and sometimes a double wing. I wore so much mascara on both upper and lower lashes. There were false eyelashes everywhere, including on the bottom. The lipstick was very pale so the eyes popped.
Gorgeous!! Another favorite one! This more what I wear as a makeup choice when I have Fancy events that requires that classic and classy look, even though I love red bold lipsticks and burgundy colors too, I feel more comfortable and myself when I wear this kind of makeup look... and that’s the beauty of makeup, that just like clothes you can change and select different styles for different occasions... have to mention that you look stunning with both looks! 50’s and 60’s!!! Like STUNNING 😍
This look looks absolutely stunning on you! I love your Historically Accurate series, it's really fun to watch and *learn* about different decades from the 20th century, and how much things changed from decade to decade; it's fascinating! ^w^
I love love love this style of videos!!!!!. The history on the make up products, how they were used and worn is so exciting to learn about. Keep it up please! I am extremely interested in each era of make up!
Liz Woodby Hi! You're welcome! ;) I have done tutorials like this already for the 20s and 40s you're welcome to check out! 80s is next! Happy to hear you enjoy them! xoxo!
I've been binge-watching your history of makeup tutorials all day....absolutely wonderful! I truly appreciate the historical tidbits you provide along with the tutorials...and p.s. your Lucille Ball look is especially stunning on you. Really glad I subscribed!
I gotta say that I love following you. Not many good beauty gurus have blue eyes and lighter skin/hair. I have a hard time imagining how a look will be on me when I see a brown eyed darker skin toned person doing a look. So thanks for everything!
i definitely side with the feminists you mentioned who embraced makeup. In fact, I think if the sexes were truly equal, men would accept makeup as a form of expression and wear it often as well. But that's just my opinion
Sarah Perez What she means is that when men DO wear makeup, they get heavily ridiculed. She thinks that true equality is allowing the men that wear makeup to do it without getting ridiculed.
Hi, I just discovered your series, amazing and beautiful. You mentioned in one of your videos that we could ask for an era, what about the Marie Antoinette era? both men and women would wear make-up. Thank you in advance. p.s. I am also digging your Frugal Fridays, yay!!!!!
You-Go-GIRL!!! I have been enjoying ALL your period looks, once again as I review some videos for my three daughters who are finally taking an interest in makeup. They are between 18 and 21. I am just about to introduce them to your channel and website. Take Care...Teri

You are a cool dad!
Jonathan Barron how sweet. Learn on UA-cam. Women who know what to do with younger girls makeup.
I absolutely love this tutorial! In fact, my husband saw me watching it and he went out and bought me everything that you used and gave it to me for Christmas! Now I can recreate this amazing look! Keep doing what your doing!!

yes!
Omg this!
I'm really enjoying going back over this series. I like that you chose Bardot for this period. Her smoky eye makeup is still my favorite to this day.
The most beautiful makeup era by far.
Do the 2000's!!! Britney, Christina, all the pop artists of that era:)
Thanks for telling us the time to get to the tutorial! But who wouldn't want to listen to the history of the 1960's makeup?
Haha! Oh you know, there's always one! ;) I appreciate you saying that! :)
It’s quite fascinating and interesting. My mom and dad were graduating in the 60’s . My dad in ‘64 and my mom in ‘68. This is probably what my mom did, just guessing! Her senior picture was in black and white, but she did the straight, slightly wavy hair with a flip at the end.
finally a makeup channel worth watching!
This channel is so amazing. You are just the cutest ever, too. Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, and Bridgette Bardot have always been so beautiful to me and I've always wanted to be daring enough to recreate those looks. This is fantastic. Thanks. x
What a look! And no detectable eyeshadow! I do love the 60's.

oh, I agree!
that would be the greatest thing ever!!

I was just thinking about my older sister's cake mascara!
I love how u don't just look up images on ur makeup look you dive deep into it finding out the tricks and making it better!
I was a kid, but remember Twiggy's amazing look on t.v.
Great job!!
This has to be my favorite hair and makeup look you've done in your time period tutorials.
Love Brigitte, this is fun love the 60's all the best music etc.. I love Sharon Tate also for the 60s also.
I LOVE that you do so much research on these looks and not only show us the tutorial, but also share what you've learned. You're wonderful! Thank you!
Haha! You're too cute! I guess Twiggy is what everyone associates with the '60s, but I felt like the dramatic winged liner needed a spotlight. You just don't see enough of them! :(
You should do a 2000-2010 makeup, I would love to see the comparison to the other eras.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! This has pretty much become my everyday look because I love the way the eyeliner brings out my eyes and its really fast and easy. And when I'm feeling adventurous I use a shimmery emerald eyeliner for a pop of color. Wonderful job!

Your natural lip color is so beautiful! Jealous :)

Would you mind doing a Twiggy tutorial next in your Historically Accurate series? I'd love to see that!!
I absolutely love how much research you put into these videos. I really like seeing people do historically accurate makeup instead of modern takes on it. Love those lashes as well, perfect shape for a 60s eye.

Could you do an early 2000s tutorial? Like until 2010?
I know that I'm looking at a lot of your older videos. But it's fun traveling thru time!
Literally just now finding your channel and I am so addicted. I love the history that you're finding. It really brings the look to life by painting the picture of the time frame. Also, your skills are amazing!
Thank you for all the time and research that you put into these videos! Such a treat for all of us interested in fashion history!
I LOVE these videos and so appreciate all the time you put into them. I watch them over and over!!

I wore so much mascara on both upper and lower lashes. There were false eyelashes everywhere, including on the bottom. The lipstick was very pale so the eyes popped.
I’ve been watching all your videos and what fun it’s been! It helps to be beautiful as yourself to showcase the eras. 😍
you should do the 00's
yeeeeees
Nooo !! 00’s are just as bad as the 80’s , don’t do it !! Please don’t do it .
Love the history, the adverts and images especially. Thank you!
Gorgeous!! Another favorite one! Wow I am so impressed with your historical tutorials!!!! You look gorgeous!
I absolutely love your videos! I love history and makeup, so this series is right up my alley! Thank you!
Thank you for doing such a beautiful, wearable 1960s makeup look! I finally managed to do winged liner correctly today and I'm so happy about it XD
Very nice video! Accurate. I was a model in SF in the 60's and we did wear two sets of eyelashes! And, yes, bottom lashes too!
Binge watching on your videos! Love these historical videos.. so much fun!!
This look is my favorite that you have done. It looks totally fabulous on you!!
Liz Woodby Hi! You're welcome! ;) I have done tutorials like this already for the 20s and 40s you're welcome to check out! 80s is next! Happy to hear you enjoy them! xoxo!

YAY!! I bet you ROCKED that '20s look! :D I too was born WAY too late, so I hear ya!! :) Big hugs back!!
This is such a unique idea for a video and you do it so well. I appreciate the mini history lessons, too.
I gotta say that I love following you. Not many good beauty gurus have blue eyes and lighter skin/hair. I have a hard time imagining how a look will be on me when I see a brown eyed darker skin toned person doing a look. So thanks for everything!
Me too! She was/is just STUNNING!!
This is really awesome. I love the historical information! And the look is gorgeous!
My favorite decade to replicate!! Excellent tutorial ... I loved recreating this look too.
i definitely side with the feminists you mentioned who embraced makeup. In fact, I think if the sexes were truly equal, men would accept makeup as a form of expression and wear it often as well. But that's just my opinion
Omg....seriously? Lmao this is why I can't take feminism seriously...
Sarah Perez explain?? like why are you watching a video on makeup if you don't agree that makeup is fun and interesting...
i agree with you. makeup is a form of expressison.
Sarah Perez What she means is that when men DO wear makeup, they get heavily ridiculed. She thinks that true equality is allowing the men that wear makeup to do it without getting ridiculed.
men used to wear make up
The 70s hippie look next please!!
Love you bunches too, sister! Liz was SO freakin' gorgeous!
Thank you, Deb! Me too! Can't wait for the next one! :D
Love the mini history lesson, so different. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! :)
Awesome! I love history AND make-up, so this is the perfect combination. :)
Can you do a 70s hippie makeup tutorial and hair?! :D
I keep seeing mid to late 60s tutorials it really nice to see a Early 60s one
Another couple of 60's inspirations would be Marlo Thomas and Dusty Springfield.
Definitely! Enjoy!! :D
Thank you so much for the video! Such informative video and the look is beautiful as always ;)
Luv the history lesson. That's awesome that you give the theory behind the looks!!
This is a stunning look! Love it! But yes I'd love to see Twiggy too :)
Would love to see you do that Sophia Loren eye...
I second this request!! +Zabrena could you please do a second part to this video with the Sophia Loren eye/look?
It’s amazing but you look beautiful in every time period!
@1:06- Jean Shrimpton, not Sharpton. Otherwise, great and informative tutorial. :)

I love these videos and the history part. You have great application control :-)
I love these videos, they are so interesting and you look stunning x
I love the little history lesson in these
1980s. The birth of the punk era. Do a makeup look on that, please! PRETTY PLEASE? :)
Thank you for that appreciation, Grace! :D
What an absolutely beautiful look on you!!!!!!!!! 😍😻
you should do a 50s tutorial!
Thank you for this! I am in charge of makeup for my daughter's production of Hairspray Jr. This is perfect!
Awww! Thanks!
I love this 60s hair style. It would be great to see a tutorial on the hair style.
