Just for funsies, I made two "monocolor" teams based on official colors. The pink one was bulky but didn't hit hard enough (Tinkaton, Scream Tail, Blissey, Slowbro, Flamigo, and Bewear before the HOME update). The purple team was made up of several competitive Pokémon and was kinda good (Corviknight, Great Tusk, Gengar, Mienshao, Indeedee, and Cloyster).

For Gligar being classified as purple, in the original gen 2 games (GSC) it was purple and then changed to a more pinkish color in later gens. The older Pokemon's color classification will always be the same as they originally were, regardless if their colors have changed over time.
Even now it looks very similar to Espeon which they knew was purple from earlier. I was very surprised Mikey went for Gligar, it's always looked purple to me.
Colour categories were added in gen 3(technically, as you could search the dex using this method, but officially it wasnt added til DPPT/HGSS), so sneasel's crystal change saved it's category. @@Lokear

i had the pokemon crystal guide book so i already knew that gligar was purkle long ago >_< but not everyone was exposed to that and newer pictures show a much more ambiguous close to pink coloring in the artwork.
Fun fact, Tatsugiri was among a handful of Pokémon whose colors were different depending on whether you looked at the mobile or Switch version of Home. In December 2023, the mobile version was updated to match the Switch version. Curly Tatsugiri being pink and droopy Tatsugiri being red was how it appeared on mobile, and they got swapped when the update happened. In other words, John was the rightful winner.

Rabsca's body is teal, so it counting for green isn't that outrageous. What is outrageous is the freaking *red and orange* worm counting as pink; that has absolutely no excuses.
If John and Michael did battles in Unite competing for who gets the higher contribution score with a roulette deciding their pokemon, that could be fun.
On a hunch, looked up Gligar's early sprites, and it's... confusing. In gen 2, it was pink. In gens 3 and 4, it looks purple. Only from gen 5 onwards does it become pink again and stay that way. I checked when the sorting by colour mechanic was introduced and lo and behold, it was in gen 3, when it still looked purple. Gliscor is also classified as purple btw (despite clearly being gray) so at least Mikey's theory of giving the same colour to evolutionary lines is holding up. By that logic, I guessed that Lotad would be green because Lombre and Ludicolo are primarily green, and I was right! It is classified as green. So you guys really did learn something from this challenge and helped us make more sense of this nonsensical classification.

Thinkatink is pink, but the hammer is purple. So is a clear gamble between red and grey.
