It's domestic slavery and should be illegal. They should be given every chance to access education and training. They end up trapped in abusive marriages with a clutch of children and no earning potential beyond being a cleaner and not even that if they can't read.

It was GREAT advice that Jimmy got Paddy to do do more years of school. He definitely needed more baseline education, and his big brother was there to advise him correctly.
I consider my 7 year old to be struggling in school, but he's more knowledgeable and knows more mathematics and English then that 9 year old. The 9 year old is on par with my 5 year old in education 😭
It is so upsetting and just sad to see how he knows his little brother look up to him and how mature he is for his age. He understands things adult men do and you can also notice he probably didn't wanna leave school.
@@EmmaChapman-h5s Yeah it's sad to see how much the parents just don't care of their children education, also I think they start at like 6-7 instead of the set age.
My dad taught in a school with a significant traveller population. They would often arrange for children to be kept behind a year so they would get to stay in education longer as leaving primary school would be the end for most children in the community.
I grew up in the United States. Every year the Gypsy's would come to their "camp" next property over from my Aunt. Most of them were extremely smart and very well traveled. We loved it when they came. I learned about their culture. As long as you respected them they were good to you. My aunt would find home baked goodies on her porch often.
Jimmy ia a great kid and fast learner. I think Patty has learning disabilities. It’s not even just numbers and letters he struggles with. He struggled to learn machinery too. It broke my heart when he didn’t know 9 + 2 = 11. Jimmy has a lot of patience with Patty. I know he called him an idiot, but that’s bound to happen when a brother is expected to fill the role of a father for his sibling.
I don’t get it - most of them live in a trailer and the girls lives seem to be completely consumed by cleaning everyday? What the hell is there to clean 7 hours a day 7 days a week? Imagine a life defined by cleaning.
Well if you have that many kids it’s going to get messy fast. Especially if you want it too look so nice. Plus if they have farms they probably do something with that.
My husband has been in the Trades for over 35 years. He's a Stationary Engineer specializing in knowing how to repair just about anything High Rise buildings. He has to know how to read, and understand, technical manuals. How to safely mix dangerous chemicals safely. How to read complicated schematics, as well as remaining up to date on local laws and how to stay within said laws. He knows how to work through all sorts of computer programs, and much more. Gone are the days where Trades People could get by with little to No formal education. Now most jobs require some sort of education beyond high school. The world has changed and they are sadly setting up their children to be left behind.
@@amandab8433 school also teaches "HOW" to learn. Do I need to know how to write interpret a poem in French in my job now? No. I don't need to know a lot of stuff I learned in school. But I acquired skills in school that I need now in my job and day to day life.
I think that schooling traveler children needs to be more practical for them. Teach them why reading a cleaning bottle will help them clean better. Have classes on sewing or 4H geared programs to meet their needs. They will value school more if it values what is impotent to them. Working hard to make money is very important to the young men and caring for the home and family as important to the girls.
Excellent point! Make education applicable…the same could be true for all children’s education…most are not built for doctors, scientists and scholars!..in the US trade education is lacking…and we need more of that…we are seeing a serious shortage of skilled tradesman like builders, mechanics, farmers etc.
@@YOLO-yx2nz there are very few schools offering home Ec and shop these days. These classes and the arts were all drastically cut 20 years ago so that the schools could afford computer classes. It’s time for the pendulum to swing back again

Some traveller communities have recognised the importance of education to a degree. My dad was born into the showman’s community and he finished school at 12 but since then a lot of his family have realised that allowing the girls that want to remain in school is a good thing, not so much the boys though. There are now a good number of girls with bookkeeping, accountancy and law education, largely because they’ve realised they can benefit the community with their financial and legal skills
This. I'm a female Irish Traveller and a doctor. I was given the choice of whether or not I wanted to stay at school at 13 (when everyone else chooses their GCSEs, and so kids of every background are starting to make decisions about their future) but it had to an informed choice. I was the first of us to go to university but many have followed behind me. We have accountants, nurses, and midwives, to name a few. A lot of the lads have chosen to go to college and become qualified plumbers, electricians, carpenters, plasterers - so staying within the trades, but with the qualifications to be able to run solid businesses that are in demand. It also stops a lot of the people who would usually refuse to employ Travellers dead in their tracks when they see that they are fully qualified and insured. Stops a lot of prejudice.
I will say everything I’ve watched about travelers and those I’ve met (since they had caravans seasonally where I grew up and came to my school) the mums really do keep impeccable homes and let the kids play without being stuck affront a tv all day. It is a shame the girls leave education early though because you can learn domestic skills and finish high school.
I wish the children stayed in school longer. With current technology some schooling could travel with them. They need to be able to read and do math well enough to keep track of their money and read a simple contract. Course work needs to be obviously relevant to their lives, but practical skills are good for all kids to learn.
Thank you! I do wish the kids stayed in school longer but, I can see how in the past, that would've been more normal. But, they seem like lovely people. As with any group I'm sure there are bad apples. But, overall they just seem lovely.
That’s so true! I feel like part of it might also be because the parents need the help. I wonder if these children feel parentified. Being responsible for child care and income could feel quite burdensome, but maybe since it’s normalized in this community, it doesn’t feel as burdensome to them.
Sounds like the hood I grew up in, only marriage was uncommon and a highchool diploma was only encouraged if you had a career plan. College was considered an overacheivement. This was in the USA, New England. The hood I grew up in had this as a culture: 1. Childhood was short (ended at 13, when parents stopped parenting). 2. Get a partner and get pregnant asap (between 13-18) 3. Apply for benefits and housing once pregnant. Or stay at your parents' place until you qualify to apply (age minimum Is 16). 4. Men hustled/dealt drugs or found a way to get money from "back injuries". Getting and keeping an honest job was not favored. Hustling/dealing made more money. 5. Women stayed home and had/raised kids. Maybe worked, often just collected at home. 6. Everyone had low expectations for life and found happiness in a shared love of drama and parties. Glad I got out as a teen and never went back.
Additionally, upper- and middle-class liberals in both countries support both “lifestyles” and deem anyone who speaks out against it as “racist” (even if they are of the same race/ethnicity), yet the people who are harmed the most by the “lifestyle” are the women and children from that lower-class group who have no power or voice. They are incredibly susceptible to DV and s*xual violence. #MakeItMakeSense
They are safe, clean and are cared for in a respectful manner. Today children are given everything can’t clean, cook or care for themselves. I do wish they had a stronger education to protect them. But compared to children today who are being exposed and preyed upon by media and strangers they are safer. 💕🙏💕🙏

I’ve watched SO many of these episodes. The travellers have weird ideas about non Travellers. They are just as prejudiced as non. It sounds like they have it drummed into them by their parents that they are far luckier than non gypsies. My Aunt married a Romany at 18, he was 23. It was the 1960s and my very middle class grandparents said no. So she promptly got pregnant. My GPs held out… she made it down the aisle with 5 weeks to spare. She had four live babies out of nine. None went to school after 12-13. They were fantastic horse riders and show jumpers. We loved visiting them, but it was rare as they were deemed wild - but we always had so much fun. They had lots of animals and we went on adventures in the surrounding countryside, 7 cousins just paddling in streams, catching fish, tadpoles, frogs, riding ponies ( and falling off) playing with dogs, cats, kittens, ferrets and a foul mouthed parrot. They were just our cousins, Aunt & Uncle.
I can understand the boy's education: Working with animals, learning a proud and effective special craft from their fathers and grandfathers. I can see they thrive on achieving these skills and earn their honors for their communities in a highly respected traditional way. - But on the other hand it is absolutely heartbreaking to watch these little girls struggling with basic academic education, not because they would be slower or dumber as their classmates, but just because they missed out so much of schooling and lessons and therefore feel inferior to their classmates. -So they pull back from any basic education and "learn" about housekeeping, a skill they probably pick up in a few weeks. Nothing creative about it, nothing really interesting, only dull, repetitive actions serving their families and their husbands and sons. Every day. Over and over again. I feel so very bad for this fundamental loss of girl- and woman-power, their natural abilities, their intelligence, creativity and abilities in every form ... It is just devastating to watch this power fade away with cleaning houses (or vehicles), bearing and raising kids, and obeying men. What a waste of human power!
seriously. they’re teaching the little boys that women shouldn’t be working, that looking after children is a “woman’s” job, and that men shouldn’t be doing those jobs. it’s heartbreaking
As a stay-at-home mum (with a good degree), sadly I agree with you. The boys are thriving with the physical work and I think many in our school system would be the same. But where are the skills the girls are being given? Running a household isn't for the fainthearted but give them some other skills! Unless this programme has been deliberately designed to hide the skills they're gaining, like accounting or food preservation?
@@scdl-m2z Isn't this exactly what the new "Trad Wife" thing promoting? Look at all the Influencers who are getting popular and racking up followers because they stay close to home and hearth.

So children who lived in a very similar way back in the day were all abused were they? They’re fed, they’re cared for. That’s not abuse. They’re just instilled with different values. Is the quad biking reckless? Yes. Is it abusive? No!
@@nadinehart8624 Fed and clothed is no longer the standard and for good reason. Yes this may have been the life their family before them had but it was in a world where that kind of lifestyle made sense. You should not treat your 10 year olds as second moms and secondary incomes for the home that absolutely is abuse.
One thing I can't stand is the carting. To anyone that is non horsey, trotting on concrete for a horse is so damaging for their joints. Research has shown that roadwork results in forces on the hoof around 20 times higher than working on good grass or artificial surfaces. I can understand why it might be hard for them to hire somewhere to do these events but there's just no need for this blatant neglect. The horses shown in the show are fairly well looked after but this is just showing the very best side of travelers horses. Just think of the amount of times you've seen a horse tethered to the side of a busy road. They can also easily slip since they're trotting so fast on concrete, metal on a smooth stone surface means there just isn't much friction.
The horse part was a really hard watch for me. Blatant abuse making them run on concrete who tf thinks that's okay!? I'm not even around horses and I know that's not okay... common sense.
Why is the narrator going on and on about Shannon's ' choice ' to leave school at 10? She's too young to think that through and is just parroting her mom & relatives. She will have so much regret later! 😢
I disagree that it's parroting. HOWEVER, she has the mentality that being out of school would be better for all the same reasons a normal kid would. "I won't have homework", "School is boring", "Home is so much more fun" are all things you hear ALL THE TIME from kids her age. She's thinking of it as summer holidays times the rest of her life. To a kid, that sounds pretty awesome. Unfortunately, I don't think she'd be able to keep that mentality for long after it happens. We saw a little of the same situation from young Paddy. He didn't like sitting in a boring classroom all day. He LOVES being outside, something a classroom setting doesn't really allow for. Now, he has the opportunity to leave school for good and skip all that boooring work and be outside, driving cars and creating irl building blocks. Fortunately, Paddy had an older brother to point out his flawed thinking. Jimmy was SPOT ON. Unfortunately, I believe Jimmy's own mindset from when he left is the contributing factor there. Jimmy doesn't want his little brother to make the same mistake he did. Shannon doesn't have an older brother or sister who she looks up to and can tell her it's not all sunshine and daisies leaving so soon. She knows it's tradition and sees a way out of school and thought "HECK YEAH! NO MORE HOMEWORK! PERMANANT VACATION!". They're both just so young and naive.
I agree. It's the parents' choice to enroll their child or children into the school or home-school them in the first place, so it's also their decision as the *parents* to pull them out of the said school.
Of course a 10 year old does not like the feeling of meat and washing dishes. And that poor girl cannot do subtraction. She thinks basic education is not needed at home, but how will she read a recipe? Handle money if she ever loses her husband?
I think it’s a great idea to have a school specifically for traveller children. I used to teach a traveller boy who was constantly bullied by the other children. At least they’re getting some education which is better than none at all. I do feel sorry for the girls though whose only aspirations in life are to become wives and mothers.
I wonder why she wants to leave school… Everybody in her household is telling her that it’s a woman’s job to cook and clean the house and she complains about bullies at school. There are other factors, causing her to neglect her education that need to be addressed because this will affect her for the rest of her life.
I have so many questions, for one, if the girls leave school without learning how to read properly, how do they get around in the real world, like reading road signs, important family documents like tiles, wills and bank statement, what happened if the husband dies young??
Their reading skills are likely sufficient. My father was an idiot and also severely dyslexic but drove for a living. So he could understand road signs no problem. Regarding wills then the family likely has their own setup and many travellers I knew didn’t have bank accounts anyway.
@@jinaratsoma9306 They don’t have anything to do with wills or bank statements, the husband has control of everything. I have no idea what they do if he dies young though.

Ive seen these poor girls when their men leave them or they leave bc of abuse and they have NOTHING and no education and cannot support themselves or their children.. your basically hoping to marry somone who wont just leave you or abuse you... so sad!
The culture is slowly changing. The women get stuck in a cycle of being raised to think the only important thing in life is to find a husband get married, have a extravagant wedding and kids. Husbands are always abusive, never let them go anywhere. the woman get hit and leave and then their daughters start all over again at 14 for the wedding, and they abuse them
I can see technology (especially wifi) making a huge difference in these children's lives from now on. In Australia we've had "School of the Air" for many decades- for children in isolated or transient situations. I can see distance education creeping into Traveller lives. Hopefully it will make the girls realise they can do so much better.
Lmao i am from Kentucky and the thats the most interesting version of blue moon of kentucky i have ever heard. On another note I am sad for these girls lack of options because of lack of Education. There's nothing wrong with learning trades but cant the kids go to school for a few hrs a day and then go to work? Girls who are going to raise children at home still need to know Reading Writing and arithmetic as well. What happens if something happens to her marriage or her husband and he can no longer be the breadwinner then she either has to rely on other people or the government to take care of her and her children
I understand the thing of wanting to keep traditions alive, but don't just pull the *children* out of education as soon as they hit 10 or 12 years old. Even one of the boys was talking about wanting to leave school and work with his dad, but you would never legally be allowed to go up on roofs or do near enough any of the things until at least the age of 16 or 18 and only then if you have the appropriate training and certificates and things.. Can we say child labor?
It’s not that they’re expected to be stay at home moms. It’s how the men treat them. There’s no greater joy than being housewife with a loving respectful supportive husband. Trouble is that he is extremely rare.
“Shannon’s decision to leave school (at 10!) has the full support of her family. ‘We like the girls to stay home, learn how to cook, clean.. just learn how to be girls.’” Wow. To expect so little of your girls, that their only purpose is to cook, clean and look after children. That they don’t have any choice to be something else. 😟
How does the UK actually allow this? School should be mandatory until 14-16, like many other European countries. Other than that, I think kids working with the family is great, they all learn how to feed their family and make money, many other kids bever learn that at a young age.
It is mandatory until 18, which is why it's still so strange to me that this community seems to be exempt? I'm wondering if it's just easier for our authorities to turn a blind eye in the case of travellers. But I do agree that doing real work can be good for teenagers too. I started working at 16 (part time after school) and I actually do think that was hugely important, it contributed to confidence building and learning how to talk to people who aren't friends my age!
I've seen so many of these Gypsy shows now. It makes me so sad that they aren't ensuring their children get a decent education. I understand many of them left school early, so homeschooling would be tough, but they have to have the wits to atleast get their kids some tutoring instead of just working. Let the kids be kids so they can have a better chance at a future. Like the 1 brother explained, even in trade work, you need to understand how to read, write & comprehend ATLEAST basic math. These are some of the brightest & well rounded children I've seen on these shows. Seeing how much worse it is for the majority, is somewhat disturbing. The culture is more or less animalistic & all centered around catering to men, bc they're literally trained/brainwashed that their lives are about homemaking, which fully keeps them dependent on the men. I would hope that more traveller girls gain some dreams bigger for their futures. Atleast so they have the skills if they ever do need to get away & can then fend for themselves. If they were smart, all the females would marry outside of the community, so that it could safetly end the sickness within their "culture." Seeing the amount of abuse & young girls dressing & acting like baby prostitutes, is genuinely distubring. Odd that they aren't showing that side of it on a lot of these children's episodes.
This is absolutely mind blowing. By 11 I was more educated on every front then that girl pulling out of school. I did well in school. I loved cooking shows, so I pushed myself to learn to cook to the point that by 9 I was competent enough to used the oven on my own unsupervised. My mom loves fiber arts so I also learned kitting, crocheting, tatting, weaving, etc. I was teaching 18 year olds how to use a sewing machine when I was 12. I got a science degree, got married nearly a decade ago at 25 and now have 3 kids and a stable marriage, with a kind and respectful husband. My mom has a master's and my parents are approaching their 50th anniversary. Education only helps moms be better moms and I don't see any how they think you have to give up basic education to learn how to cook and clean. You absolutely can learn both academic and domestic skills at a young age while still having a full and lengthy childhood. And the boys learning nothing but trade is such a disservice. My dad and brother are more respected at work and the community BECAUSE they can cook and sew etc. I'd consider myself a failure as a mom if my boys didn't learn at least the basics of cooking and sewing as well as my daughter. I started cooking with all of them around 2 and they've all held at least a plastic darning needle in hand. Before they move out I also expect all 3 of them to learn how to change the oil of a car, balance a check book, be well versed in our religion, and get minimum a highschool diploma, and I don't think that's too much to expect of every kid. Childhood should never end at 16. They argue that those kids are more mature, but that's not what I'm seeing at all. I can't believe all the 14, 15, 16 year olds that LOOK like they're in their early 20's but still act like immature young children. This whole things is really tragic. Ignorance is not a culture.
In Ireland travellers have less of a mortality rate than in the settled community and the rates for domestic violence is higher too. They should not be allowed to operate outside the law, leaving school early, illegal horse racing on the roads to name but a few!
You might want to be a roofer but an education can keep you from being cheated, ensure you know what money is coming in and going out. As for the girls Good Lord teach them ! It is not a waste of minds if someone wants to stay home and raise their children. BUT, if there are no other choices in life you are limiting them.
I understand that gypsy community value their ways of living, but the world is moving on, and you can only sustain your ways but adapting. Younger generation is your future, and they must choose your values not being groomed cos this is the quickest way to resetment and end of your community. Education is a must have if you want your young generation to help you survive. Education provides options, new ideas, and self-respect. I have two degrees, and I'm stay at home mum by choice. The difference is I always have a choice.
Maybe people dont like the lifestyle. But… the kids seem like hardworking kids. They love family… and help out. It’s impressive really. In a world where a housewife is looked down upon… raising children is not high priority…. And a man taking care of his family is harder to find. I like that they follow traditions. I’ve watched a few of these. And depending on the family… some of the girls do decide to go work and get education. And family supports it. Not sure how many “allow or encourage this”…But I have seen a few and love this for them. And though not always known for modesty… they have high morals. It’s interesting really. 10 does seem ridiculous to leave school…I know I would have done that as I did not like it back then… it limits their choices forever.. as it would be near impossible for them to catch up educationally at 19… not impossible but hard… but I do appreciate the love and hard word they have. Plus the boys being boys. Makes me smile if I’m honest. No sitting around watching tv and playing video games… the boys want to work with their dad! It is impressive in the days of a bunch of entitled young people out there

I'm in a Mennonite area where the girls only attend school through 8th grade. It seems to work out well enough. There are many home schoolers here and they are generally well educated, but I have met home schooled daughters of mothers who only went until age 13 and their writing and arithmetic skills were maybe at 4th grade level, so....
I think they need to wait until 15 to leave school if they want, but they need to learn more than just 5 years of education. Mother are no capable to teach kids to write and read and it's going generation to generation.
Ps as many have said i admire the work hard ethics they teach their kids, the genuine love, friendship and respect these kids give the parents and each other as siblings. Like these children, I remember my male cousins parroting their father's disdain for educatiin, assured the life skills they learned outside school were more important because they would be farmers and inherit the farm.

Well said!!!
So sad they can't see it bc they've been so brainwashed. It's the only thing they know!
It's extremely misogynistic depending on the males financially & the females don't have any place outside of catering to everyone else. How anyone can't see how problematic this is, is beyond me. Seen little kids dressed like prostitutes.
These little girls should be able to see marrying outside of their "culture" would be the best thing for it.
It was GREAT advice that Jimmy got Paddy to do do more years of school. He definitely needed more baseline education, and his big brother was there to advise him correctly.
If he would have stayed in school, he would’ve been at least a college graduate. You can tell he’s intelligent.

Jimmy is extremely mature and switched on. Unfortunately, he had to learn at a young age that wishing to grow up so fast is not so great!
I don’t get it - most of them live in a trailer and the girls lives seem to be completely consumed by cleaning everyday? What the hell is there to clean 7 hours a day 7 days a week? Imagine a life defined by cleaning.
they are pretending like they are cleaning buckingham palace. it is so boring
Preserving their ancestry is more significant than ensuring a stress-free, enjoyable, educated childhood for their own descendants.

Jimmy is a great brother. Hes going to grow up and be a good man.
It's more to keep them virgins and not be influenced by outside boys
They would leave with more education and exsposure....
I know it’s their tradition but after raising a lawyer, teacher and environmental scientist daughters. I feel sad for these girls.
Exactly. By cutting off education early, they really pigeon hole them into domestic life.
Sounds like the hood I grew up in, only marriage was uncommon and a highchool diploma was only encouraged if you had a career plan. College was considered an overacheivement. This was in the USA, New England. The hood I grew up in had this as a culture:
1. Childhood was short (ended at 13, when parents stopped parenting).
2. Get a partner and get pregnant asap (between 13-18)

Glad you cleared that up, I was starting to think I was a guy 😂

Why is the narrator going on and on about Shannon's ' choice ' to leave school at 10? She's too young to think that through and is just parroting her mom & relatives. She will have so much regret later! 😢
How do you know she’ll regret it?
Because thats their life style, look at American Indian culture, the women were the homemaker/ gather.
The men were the hunters
If everyone in society let the 10-year-olds decide if they will return to school, NOBODY would be in school! 🤦🏼♀️
Even reading safety instructions on cleanser labels, using new appliances!
I think it’s a great idea to have a school specifically for traveller children. I used to teach a traveller boy who was constantly bullied by the other children. At least they’re getting some education which is better than none at all. I do feel sorry for the girls though whose only aspirations in life are to become wives and mothers.

At a certain point we have to stop calling this "culture" and start calling it neglect. leaving school at 10? no absolutely not.. maybe 16 maybe...
The culture is slowly changing. The women get stuck in a cycle of being raised to think the only important thing in life is to find a husband get married, have a extravagant wedding and kids. Husbands are always abusive, never let them go anywhere. the woman get hit and leave and then their daughters start all over again at 14 for the wedding, and they abuse them
You can’t generalise and say that every single gypsy male is abusive.
I like the kid who says, stop for a second there's a spider 🕷 thank you, miss! I don't do spiders
I can see technology (especially wifi) making a huge difference in these children's lives from now on.
In Australia we've had "School of the Air" for many decades- for children in isolated or transient situations. I can see distance education creeping into Traveller lives.
Hopefully it will make the girls realise they can do so much better.
The older kid who said she thinks gorger teenage girls in school is 'disgusting'... what a horrific thing to teach your child.
I respect other peoples traditions but having your kids leave school SOOO young is wrong on many levels.
Depends on what they are doing out of school tbh though. 🤷♀️ Sometimes keeping them in typical school is worse.
Jimmy is an amazing big brother. Hes so smart and patient, his parents should be proud ❤
How does the UK actually allow this? School should be mandatory until 14-16, like many other European countries. Other than that, I think kids working with the family is great, they all learn how to feed their family and make money, many other kids bever learn that at a young age.
They are Travelers the government doesn’t care about them.

If they were smart, all the females would marry outside of the community, so that it could safetly end the sickness within their "culture."
Seeing the amount of abuse & young girls dressing & acting like baby prostitutes, is genuinely distubring.
So if travellers live on a permanent site, they're no longer travelling, so surely they can longer be classed as travellers 🤔
And take part in said crazy so called “traditions”
Not all little girls can sing, its best not to encourage when the talents not there! Dont set up a child for failure!😢

It is impressive in the days of a bunch of entitled young people out there
And the big brother taking his little brother under his wing. It’s really sweet
Taking a child out of education at 10 is not something you should admire
@@Yootuber19 You obviously did not read Carrie’s comment if you think she admired removing children from school at age 10. Or maybe you just didn’t understand it. 🤦🏾♀️
So, other than the religion aspect, Travellers aren't any different than Amish here in the states. They focus on traditional male and female roles, which something can be said for those beliefs missing in today's society.
I agree with a comment i read about education being tailored more toward their lifestyle. This would help tremendously.
There are enormous differences. I believe that the Amish are honest , hardworking and respectful towards others?
@@pburke5274I agree as someone who lives in Amish lands, they are wayyyyyy different from Irish travelers by a long shot. And I respect the Amish way more than a Irish traveler, though I would still give them an equal chance
One big difference is they don’t live on other peoples land for free!! It’s stealing!! They move because they don’t pay taxes or fees like the other people they mooch off of.. it’s not the same world it was 50 years ago.. no one talks about the meth problem or alcoholism!! Breaking laws is not a way to show children “traditions”
I'm in a Mennonite area where the girls only attend school through 8th grade. It seems to work out well enough. There are many home schoolers here and they are generally well educated, but I have met home schooled daughters of mothers who only went until age 13 and their writing and arithmetic skills were maybe at 4th grade level, so....
you should watch the interviews with former amish- sexual abuse is rampant, that's not lifestyle anybody should want its like a cult
I think they need to wait until 15 to leave school if they want, but they need to learn more than just 5 years of education. Mother are no capable to teach kids to write and read and it's going generation to generation.
The little girl tht sings oatsy clibe cracks me up shes so cute 😍
Isn't it legal for children To go to school until 16
18 now
Anyone who dealt with travellers and their horses may take a different view on how some travellers treat their horses
They act like a person can't learn to clean and cook AND anything else 🙄 it's not an either-or. Most people in the world work and somehow eat too.
Ps as many have said i admire the work hard ethics they teach their kids, the genuine love, friendship and respect these kids give the parents and each other as siblings. Helping out, doing your part, family comes first! I admire these morals and ethics being taught here. It's nice to see kids be kids and play outside. I like the school idea. Clearly they need to rethink kids leaving school that young, for both sexes
😂😂😂😂😂
As much as i think these kids are being rushed into adulthood i think the way they cherish and look up to their family members is unmatched
Letting one child teach another child gun safety is ridiculous!
Wow jimmy is a proper big brother
Like these children, I remember my male cousins parroting their father's disdain for educatiin, assured the life skills they learned outside school were more important because they would be farmers and inherit the farm.
13:39 the audio cut- 😂😂
Oh Lord shes just a little girl but take the microphone from her
The lack of respect for education pains me.
I know this is a dumb question but why are they traveling?
😅whAt do you think?
How is it legal that a child can drop out of school at age 10???
Different culture so they have to respect their culture
37:02
The eagerness to exploit child labor is unmatched in their culture! 😮
So sad for all the poor animals 💔
What about the kids?
@@Kalani_Saiko I said what I said ?
Over here in Ireland the cruelty to dogs and horses is diabolical, they dispose without a thought once their purpose is over, leaving animal rescues to pick up the pieces
Mountain holler country singer!! Fantastic!!
These traditions need to be refined because they keep these people in an endless cycle of abuse, ignorance and poverty. It's kinda sad. But it's their way I guess 🤷🏽♀️.
38:58 good big brother ❤❤❤
I'm in Oregon and descend from the Romani people that came here. I didn't grow up practicing any of their traditions, it was just known that's where my maternal family comes from. I've been greatly intrigued to learn more. I do see some similarities in personalities and ideas in their culture to mine, and there are some habits I wish I could imbue more of (like housekeeping 😅). Overall though, I'm a bit grateful that I haven't dealt with the racism/bias/bullying as well as the home insecurities to the extent they have (or the culture of grabbing 😅). I hope you get more of a feel after more ancestry tracking.
Prejudice not racism
"It's fun killing birds"
(over indulged bored young lads)
Makings of a serial killer
It all traces back to Europe I see
@@georginaohara42That's the equivalent to us saying "it's fun hunting" 🤷♀️ it doesn't have to be your thing but its perfectly natural. They are hunting the birds to eat. They said that. It's not like they are out there killing and torturing animals out of boredom or mental illness. So perhaps gain some perspective how's about? 😉😂
@@punkstermom1984 may I suggest the same to you. It’s called sarcasm. You know, jokes? The things people laugh at?
@@georginaohara42 how would someone derive that you were being sarcastic from what you wrote? I apologize that I misunderstood your intentions but there were no indications of sarcasm in your comment so I thought you were being serious. Unfortunately far too many people would be so you can never know anymore unless they marked it " *sarcasm " as many people do to communicate this.
They’re mostly dense and impulsive. Y’all believing they’d be physicists if only they could read is comical.
They're normal kids. That is the point.
MANY kids would drop out of school given the chance at their age.
Those kids would buy and sell you 😂.
Children should not be allowed to leave school at such a young age. In Germany, schooling is compulsory for everyone for 10 years. This includes 4 years of elementary school and at least 5 years of secondary school.
We are all human,! Respect everyone
Anytime you move there will be an adjustment in the schooling either there behind or in front of the average. I think all children should be taught what we called home economics.
Usually I would say it’s sad, but being an adult myself now, I’m like, the kids saying they don’t want to be at school is really how all of us as adults feel about study and work. It’s tough out here haha. So I’m conflicted about how I feel. Condemn the ignorance or appreciate the honesty
These girls need more opportunities than just cleaning their damn trailer and having children. I know they would love to be able to make some moneyon their own
Cantering/galloping horses on tarmac is a no no. Damages their hooves 😢 poor horses. Poor kids. Stuck in perpetual second class citizens 😮
