It's mapped to come in smoother, k20a2 engines normally kick in really hard at 6k rpm, and you can hear it tonnes, but mapped k20a2 engines have the crossover at around 4500 rpm and for it to be a bit smoother.

Vanos isn’t like that and nor are most other variable valve timing systems. The only other one which is like Hondas vtec is Toyotas but that was never as good as hondas.

Had a dc2 gsr with bolt on and a tune and when vtech kicked at 5200 you felt it all the way to 9000. I get the newer ones have more of a linear climb, but imo that kinda takes away from the enjoyment
