Don and Glen wrote and sang the bulk of Eagles songs but I always looked forward to Randy’s songs because they sounded different and because of his singing. They always had great harmonies but Randy’s higher key floated above what the others sang and gave it an extra sparkle and energy. I always loved listening for his voice in the mix.

... yeah, Glenn and Don H appointed themselves as the bosses once they learnt from the two veterans who co-founded Eagles - it was Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon who delivered the professional and class act with their super harmonies and superb instrumentation which gave Eagles their characteristic sound. So the Egoes were on a self-promoting drive and they made sure that they got most of the lead singing and the song credits - relegating the two band meisters (Randy and Bernie) to looking like “backup musicians” for The Glenn and Don H Show - which is when Bernie left, as he said in an interview with John Beaudin. Imagine how many MORE hits they could have had if Frey and Henley had “played nice” with both Bernie and Randy... BTW Bernie wrote the entire music for Witchy Woman, and Henley wrote the lyrics.

It is truly sad, that people with so much talent are seemingly randomly dismissed or forgotten. We can't all be stars ALL OUR LIVES, but lets not forget people when they seem to be passed their prime or "usefulness" . Randy is just another one of those that have fallen hard. Sad but true....great music reminds us of EACH OTHER and good times in our lives. We all need each other to get through this damn life. It's hard , sometimes and we can't do it alone! We all have something to give. Lets try to be less critical and more appreciative of others!

I have always been an Eagles fan and Randy Meisner was the best singer of the group especially when singing Take it to the limit. I have heard other singers do this song they don't even come close to Randy. I would like the Eagles to take this song and retire it from their act. The song is Randy's and his alone.

Look up Harry Nillsson.. he was too. Voices of angels with shy souls.

    • @ingfig1
      @ingfig1 3 роки тому +4

.. he wasn’t nervous of singing in general .. but his huge hit Take It To The Limit was a notoriously difficult song to sing, and not one of the other Eagles could hit those high notes. Even when they changed the song down a few keys they *didn’t even try* to hit the high notes! When Eagles were on an 11 month tour to promote the Hotel California album, Randy missed his wife and 3 children. He also had a cold and an ulcer when Glenn Frey tried to bully him into singing TITTL live on stage .. Randy knew he would probably not hit the high notes so he refused... it would have been disappointing for his fans and it would have been humiliating for him to miss those high. .. like pulling down his pants in front of a live audience. He was not shy to sing in the earlier days .. listen to him singing Midnight Flyer on the Don Kirchner show, and Certain Kind Of Fool in Voorburg ... and Anyway Bye Bye .. definitely the best singer in the Eagles ... he also sang several songs with other bands after he left Eagles, such as Poco and Silverado’s .. and he’s so *happy * singing without bullies. Watch bis awesome bass riffs at the end of OutlawMan on the Don Kirchner show..

Randy was fabulous. But the Eagles were fabulous with him and just as good with Timothy. They were just a fantastic band until Glenn passed. The Eagles ended when Glen did. I have no idea what they are trying to do now. Vince Gill is not an Eagle. Not in any way.

@@pbhoidale .. I guess we all feel differently. For me, Eagles lost their characteristic sound when Randy left them, never to be the same again. Bernie Leadon was also a big contributor to that special Eagles sound - the superb instrumentation and high harmonies. Those two of the four co-founders of Eagles were the class in the act.

He went solo for a while but missed the camaraderie of being in a band, - it was all he’d known from age 15! So he did various gigs, had his own band for a while (The Silverado’s), played with Poco again, with Meisner-Rich-Swan, Farm Aid, etc, also did session stints in bass and backing vocals both in studio Nd on stage for several Hugh caliber artists. Most important: he was **happy** away from the domineering Egoes. There are some great interviews with Randy by John Beaudin on his YT channel ‘History of Rock’. It’s so great to hear Randy chat in a relaxed way .. crooning about the cuuuute skunks that he feeds on his porch in the California hills.

Wish he was able to sing this song with the Eagles in Las Vegas here in September 2019 as they do the entire Hotel California album in concert.

Randy listen to your own voice and read all the messages left on you tube by your fans. You were the FAVORITE Eagle. By doing so you will feel better. I wish you well.

I didn't like the raspiness and longed for the crisp clear voice as only Randy could deliver. He is my favorite Eagle but I was looking for something closer to the record. Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks Randy and best wishes.

This is definitely Randy Meisner, but not with The Eagles. I could very well be a live performance with Swan & Rich, recorded in the early 90's.

As a bassist I always thought it a shame Randy moved away from P basses. His tone and presence on the early Eagles songs were fantastic and really glued the arrangements together. His bass work seemed to get more and more lost in the shuffle as the 70s went on. His playing was still spectacular, but the his tone just didn't sit the same in the mix. Seems odd given how much Glenn said they wanted to be more of a Rock band as they went forward that they purposefully moved away from a stronger low end.

I would imagine if Glenn and Don cannot make money on it it comes down. He certainly does not want Randy to make money since he has nothing to do with Randy and has not since 1979.

They should have let Randy harmonize and lead more. Why they were jealous and angry makes no sense. Let his talent show through and it helps the band look better.

I think *anybody* would have been nervous about hitting those high notes .. very few made it, Nobody else in the Eagles could do it for sure. Even in Miley Cyrus’ new cover she doesn’t go anywhere near those high notes ..

I am not sure that this is Randy....I realize it's live, and live sounds different than studio version. However, whoever is singing does not have Randy's typical smooth and clear tone, and misses some notes. Could be Timmy B. or any of the other Eagles. But, I the more I listen I am 99% it is not Randy. Sounds more like Henley or Frey (to me)

First I want t o say what bunch of nice comments about Randy. Yes, he was abused by the GODS,GREEDY MOTHER FUCKERS. Randy Meisner 's voice was iconic. The Eagles would never, ever achieved greatness if it was not for Randy Hermann Meisner. I love you,Randy. Let Frey and Henley rot in Hell.
