I introduced a young lady to Poco and this song in 1975. We will celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary this year. It is still "our song". RIP Rusty and Paul, we still miss you.
Sitting here in Bogotá waiting for the Parker House Rolls to rise. Listening to Poco. Gosh! How many times have I seen them play? Dozens? My family here thinks I'm a great chef. Low and slow pork ribs....rolls. They've never eaten food like this. I saw where some people wrote how listening to this song made them cry. I can see that. In February I'll turn 70. What a great time to grow up the 60's and 70's. Wonderful music. We thought the world was changing for the better. Then I read a few more comments. One in particular said that Rusty had Passed away. I looked at the date. Two months ago. How did I miss that? The song ended and I played it again. After a minute or so I noticed tears running down my face. Those people were right.... Thank you Rusty. What a great ride..
What a soft gentle song What A Love Song I just love the way Poco puts this together Rusty young and Norman Paul cotton my favorite of the whole band None can compare to Paul and Rusty I miss them so you don't know I listen to their music almost every night here in Northeast Iowa sincerely Harvey they were Immaculate in every way second to none it makes my day to listen to their beautiful sound and a beautiful guitars and the steel pedal guitar what more can I say just keep listening to their lovely music they brought to us
I am from New Orleans. I played a tour around the U.S. in the summer of 2001. I opened up for Poco at a 4th of July show in Commerce City in Denver Co. In the middle of our show, Rusty Young approached us and asked if he could sit in with us (being a New Orleans band) and if we could play Jumbalaya...we did and he played a few more with us. Their bassist had trouble with the rig supplied by the rental compay, so he ended up using my bass rig for their show. Very nice gentleman. They sounded amazing. I saw them the nite before also in an outdoor performance in a park in Denver we were invited to. Amazing performance!
This is the most beautiful version of jjcales Magnolia. So pretty it makes me cry. Nothing have Ive ever heard better. Thanks Paul for all the great songs you have written
Magnolia...the State flower of Louisiana...mesmerizing, only Rusty can make a pedal steel cry....listen to this on an expensive set of headphones and feel euphoria...so lovely real and touching....long live Poco.....
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It takes me back years, and I am there all over again. Dear Lord, this is so smooth and just a wonderful song.
Went to an open mic night once and heard this for the first time. The musicians just jammed so beautifully and kept this piece going on forever. It was almost hypnotic, incredibly mesmerizing, and I asked my friend Mike (who'd been a studio musician for many of the bands I so loved) whose song this was, and he told me. I loved Poco anyway, but hadn't heard this before, and when I found THIS version it took me right straight back to that small smoky club with candles on the table, a glass of wine sitting abandoned while my husband and I danced...perfectly attuned, just one body. We weren't married very long then and hadn't learned to dance so well yet....until then. Even now if he hears me playing this, he comes in and pulls me to him to dance slowly, just as we did then. One of the best memories ever, and I love that I get to re-experience it again and again. This is the most perfect arrangement I have ever heard.
This song by this band brings it all home for me. I loved this song in summer of 1973 and it is still one of my all time favorites. Thank you Paul, Rusty, Richie and George for this ultimate expression of longing and memory. (and thanks to JJCale for writing it!)
Great Version Paul was quite influenced by J J Cale it was something he and Eric Clapton had in common it might have been the reason why Eric had asked Paul to come up and play with him at one of his shows. EC Was a friend of the bands for years. Got to know Richie and Jimmy while they were in the Springfield. Then they shared producers for a bit and the friendship continued throughout the years.
We just played a gig a couple weeks ago , and we played Magnolia, its suprising how many people havent heard that song, and when they hear it, they REALLY like it a lot.. There is something about that song that really gets to me and the rest of my band, and I think those feeling are projected when we play it.
Jesus, POCO made such a beautiful song, remember way back when I first heard it, over 40 years, hope I got that pretty close. LOVE, LOVE LOVE THIS SONG! LOVE POCO! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR MUSIC!!!!!!!!
ma fille de 24 ans etudiante vient de découvrir POCO en écoutant mes anciens vinyls .l la magie opère toujours et POCO reste ce fantastique group !! RIP Paul et Rusty forever young
Each time I listen , it gets better. It s been awhile but nothing stirs my soul more than this amazing version. Paul Cotton can sing this and Rusty can play this so beautifully. All the instruments and their creative implementation are in a class of their own. Just an incredibly wonderful ballad.
that is simply ONE BEAUTIFUL SONG, and it was performed so WELL. ! Nothing over-done, not to dramatic, not too loud. Just beautiful and tastefull. Wish more musicians had that kind of talent and dicipline.
Came here because of John Mayer's version. I must admit this is spectacular. Paul Cotton's voicing is just incredible, not to mention his guitar playing. Rusty's pedal steel, beautiful! Great band doing a great song. Thank you JJ!
Earlier this year we lost Rusty. And a couple months ago we lose Paul. So glad I was able to see Rusty, Paul and Richie at Wildwood Springs 5 -6 years ago.
God I love these guys. I sure wish I had seen more of them back in the day. They are the best of the absolute best. There is no one like Poco for good music and good feelings.
God this song kills me every time no matter how many times Ive listened to it over the past decades. Love it by JJ but Poco goes over the top w it. Makes john mayers version sound like a lounge act
@@davidbergin6184 RIP Rusty Young Im so sad he passed about 2 months ago. Great musician. I had the opportunity to speak w him a few times. A really nice guy
I just read a recent article about Poco coming up with a new style of music and then getting it "stolen" by The Eagles... no it didn't. No one does like Paul (vocals and guitar) and Rusty (very good, and also incredible sounds.. like the beginning of this, and an 'organ' sounds on "Nobody's Fool".. back when Jim Messina was w/Poco), and George and Richie had unique contributions. I don't know much about Timothy B with The Eagles, but he added a LOT to Poco (see a live version of "Rose of Cimarron" on youtube.. that voice.. I've also read he seemed happier with Poco vs. The Eagles [don't know if true]).
Many moons ago I saw, at the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ, John Sebastian,Poco,& Billy Joel,in his 1 st across the river performance, all one one billing, talk about a mind blower… oh to be young again.. when there was music…
Had to be great. I had the pleasure to see Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars in '64. Headlined by the Byrds, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Bo Diddley, and others. I too miss the good ol' days mom & dad used to talk about.
I have been listening to Poco for 50 years. The absolute best country rock band ever. Saw them for the last time on their last tour. Rest in peace Rusty and Paul.
One of my all time favorite songs! Listening to Poco ALWAYS brings back great memories of my youth :) Thank You Poco, and thank you for posting the video! One of the best concerts I've ever seen was Poco and America at Red Rocks in 1977 :)
Rusty passed away this week. Sudden. Heart attack. I found myself going to Magnolia - live - first. Might just stay there a minute. So many are leaving that were/are the soundtrack of my life, youth, and always the undertone to what/who I am. RIP doesn't even begin with the ones who will live on because of something as simple, pure and sweet as Magnolia.
Rusty at his finest!! So beautiful...sounds like music you would hear in Heaven. Everyone sounds awesome here. Rest in Peace, Rusty.....one of my all time favorite pedal steel players.
As I have been digging more into Poco's music, I realize how underrated a guitar player Paul Cotton is. Thanks for posting this. Of course, you also have Rusty Young (RIP) doing his amazing slide playing as well.
I read where george had a very serious stroke some years back. If I reacall it happened while he was playing. A long recovery but I believe (and hope) he is better
What a beautiful song, I love it!!! I have been and still listening to Poco since the late 60's and they still sound Great!!!❤️🌹👍🏼☺️ why does nobody write these kind of songs anymore...
My favorite performance from Poco's 2004 concert DVD. Bought it at Tower Records (when there still was a Tower Records). John Mayer also covers this J. J. Cale classic brilliantly.
Poco Gold (the album) needs to be mass produced. This song is on it, and it's so beautiful! What a great band. Just love their creativity, unique sound, and use of instruments! They had me at "Crazy Love", which reminds me of Key West, FL! From there on, I went crazy buying all the albums! Can't get enough of exceptional music-what can I say!
this Poco song is a timeless classic. I can sit back and the tears start to well up. I don't know why it just happens. There maybe someone I don't know maybe got away in my younger years. Great song.
way too fast! :0---but trying to enjoy each year....56 really crept up on me---when people ask my age -just to ask--I tell them 60 & enjoy their surprised looks---plus when I reach that age--it won't feel as shocking??? I hope :0
Leyenda/Legend.
This song is the greatest love song ever written. Also, for my Son's and girl friend's. Hope you like it as much as I do. Sincerely, Mom. I miss all of you. Happy Labor day weekend. Stay Safe. Always and forever Mom!!!
Just had Crazy Eyes on in the car today. The rendition of this song is fabulous, and they more than delivered here live. I miss Tim's harmony and the sax line, but this is still pretty perfect. Poco always makes me happy (:-)
You're the best thing I ever had---- I remember these words so secretly. so wonderful= so beautiful, my daughter does not know who he is-- but it is so beautiful to those years in that era
