CHEVY TAHOE TRAC OFF LIGHT STAYS ON DTC P1571 & P1689 DIAGNOSIS & FIX

  • Hello everyone! In today's video we take a look at a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe w/ a 5.3l V8 engine. The owners complaint originally was that the brake light, ABS light and Traction control light were all illuminated. They had a trouble code C0267 stored in the EBCM and found that the module was faulty. They attempted to repair the module by opening it up and re soldering some of the contacts inside the circuit board. After the initial repair, the truck drove fine for a few days before all of the lights came back on. When they reopened the module to inspect it, they found that it had been completely burned and fried. So, they decided to replace the damaged unit with a used replacement from the salvage or junk yard. Now there are no trouble codes in the ABS module and no ABS warning lights on the instrument cluster, but the TRAC OFF light on the button stays illuminated. With our scan tool we find the trouble codes P1571 and P1689 stored in the PCM or engine control module.

Very excellent video! The takeaway is: Always ask yourself "Is this the correct replacement part?" before installing it. Rock on, Eric!

I'm jealous when I see how clean vehicles in Texas are underneath. If that truck was here in the northeast you would probably have to replace all of the brake lines too. Rust issues are responsible for cars here being junked more than anything else.

That wouldn't be hard to miss. But it usually turns out to be something simple. I have to give everyone credit. They didn't just keep throwing parts at it hoping to fix it. Test and prove answers the questions.

i just went through this on a avalanche and found out there is many different modules out there. some with traction control, and active braking control, others without traction control but with active braking, and others without both lol. the RPO codes in the glove box will tell you the options it has and try to go by that. mine was a nw7 with traction control but no active braking.

I suspect during the soldering process they created a ball of solder on one of the joints which later dislodged and shorted something cascading everything to failure. If it was a short when they repaired it would have likely occurred right away vs days/weeks later.

Hate these things - bad designed to be putting these electronics under the chassis and / or exposed to the elements. Also, this is what happens when electronics-ignorant people try and fix electronics... I agree, that looks like a shorted solenoid (big current short) - a competent tech would check all the solenoids before randomly touching the solder joints; if it was a stray solder redo, it would most likely just blow the stray solder trace itself.
