Once you want to return to the 512GB SSD, you have to clone the boot partition from the 1TB drive. Otherwise, it's not going to work. For example, the Xbox One X had a chip on the motherboard with that bootloader, and you could simply put any SSD/HDD inside your console and install Xbox OS from a USB drive. With the Series X, Microsoft placed that bootloader on the SSD, and it's now encrypted. So, whatever happens to the drive bricks your console, and nobody except Microsoft can fix it. In most cases, they don't repair clients' consoles and instead provide a refurbished one for more than 70% of the price of a new one.
thanks for the reply .so if any of the drives die you would have to try and repair the ssd components if possible ,microsoft really love to make there hardware obsolete and this was a smart move by them definitely. i miss the old way using Master-9 was so ez . just to put any 2.5 sata or ssd drive in upto 2tb .
If you clone entire disk, everything will be just like you left it on that 500GB drive. If you perform a clean install and then install your games all your saves and game progress will be back ones your console syncs with your Xbox account.
Thanks for the great, easy to follow video! Does this prevent you from updating online? Also, am I understanding correctly that every time you update you will need to repeat this process?
My method is based on Microsoft's instructions. Your console will receive all online updates and function without any problems. I've a bunch of Series S consoles to a 1TB SSD, and no one has ever reported any issues. As for updates, what I mean is, for example, once you clone the original boot partition and then install offline updates on a new SSD, your previous boot partition from the original SSD becomes irrelevant. So, in the event you want to upgrade to another SSD or revert to your original one, you'll need to clone the boot partition from the new SSD. If you've been using your console for some time and have received new system and firmware updates, you'll need a fresh copy of that boot partition to replace the SSD. Unlike previous generations of Xbox consoles that had the boot loader on the motherboard chip, requiring only a new drive and offline updates without cloning, Microsoft has decided to make the process more complicated with Series S and X.
@@ElectronicsComputers Ahhhh okay, that makes much more sense. Thanks for the detailed explanation! I was actually under the impression Microsoft didn't want us doing this, surprising that they have instructions lol

If the original SSD is unrecoverable or completely dead, the console is literally worthless. We buy such consoles for donor parts for about $30-50. The Xbox One X didn’t have such issues because the bootloader partition, which exists on Series S or X SSDs, was located on a dedicated chip on the One X’s motherboard. If the drive died, you could simply replace it and install offline updates from a USB drive. With the Series S and X, Microsoft really messed things up by making them extremely unreliable and not long-lasting. Another bad decision was using small form-factor M.2 2230 SSDs instead of full-size M.2 2280 SSDs. These smaller SSDs operate under extreme temperature conditions and almost always fail within 2-3 years.
Well, in our repair shop, we try to restore or fix that SSD. If it's impossible or the process will be too time-consuming, then there's no way to fix that console. We buy them for $50-70 for donor parts. The best option is to just buy a new one. The previous generation of Xbox had a bootloader chip on the motherboard, and you could replace a dead HDD/SSD without any problems. The Series S|X doesn't have that chip. The bootloader is now on the SSD, and that partition is encrypted for a specific console.

Ive been trying to do it every way possible for the last 2 days and I cannot get it to work, I made a backup of the original drive but the original drive stopped booting as well and xbox turns straight back off, console works without ssd and both new and old ssds work too, only installing bootloader partition doesn't boot either, it booted once off the new 2tb drive with data partition missing but offline update kept failing, idk what to do, online says that there's a hidden encrypted partition which ties the ssd to mb but it has turned on up to offline updates from the new ssd so Im just lost, I have no clue why it stopped reading original drive too..
After each offline system update you get new encrypted boot partition and the old one won't work anymore. So if you want to return everything back you need to copy the boot partition from the 2TB drive onto your original one and then perform offline system update. Did you buy a modified 2TB SSD or just a random one?
Sounds like you may have used an incompatible SSD. In turn attempting offline update has changed the MB encryption key. So it no longer matches with the one it paired with on your original SSD. I am not sure how to resolve this but for the most part it's currently bricked and might require MS to fix it unless someone else has a solution.
@@akop87 Yeah exactly that happened so device is bricked, I then got a cheap series S with broken HDMI to repair instead, but it had like 12 missing pads, I rebuilt the traces but then ripped off the remaining 4 like a dickhead so I just got a series X .. 🤦🏻

Just monitor eBay and AliExpress from time to time. Sometimes, we buy faulty Series S consoles for $50, and the prices of the drives can also range from $50 to $200, depending on the seller's greediness.
Is wd_black sn770m compatible?
Unfortunately, it's not compatible.
hi man, is possible to trasnfer the ssd from an xbox one x to a sereis s? thanks
No, those are completely different SSDs. One X|S use regular SATA SSDs/HDDs when Series S|X use M.2 2230 drives.
Is it possible to fit in a 2Tb SSD in Series x? Found no Video with internal 2 Tb SSD Thanks
Instead of all those commands type:
control userpasswords2
and press the enter key. In appeared window select your account and click reset password button.
Gracias. Me funcionó . Compartí tu vídeo.✌️
Happy to help!
I really wish there were another cheaper m.2 drives that is compatible with this method
Me too.
For some reason my 1 tb ssd won't boot with the boot partition, but the stock 512gb will boot with the same exact files/boot partition
What's the model of 1TB SSD that you used?
@@ElectronicsComputers I got a Silicon Power 1TB UD90 2230 M.2 NVMe.
I know this might sound like stupid question but how do i properly connect the otg adapter to my tablet. I have connected both usbs to my tablet and controller but it doesn't work for some reason is there like a setting or permission i have to put on the apps.
For any Android tablet that supports OTG it works straight away. Also, Android doesn't support NTFS system, so if you're trying to make a bootable USB drive for the console, it's not gonna work.
@@ElectronicsComputers does wired Xbox series X controller work with it I have 2 Xbox one and Xbox series X controllers .whitch is more likely to work. I'm going to tell you my tablet and brand. Can we use any ssd or just work only 2230?
You can use only compatible ones.
@@ElectronicsComputers where can I find compatible guide?
What if the original SSD is broken and unreadable!
How about 2TB SSD internal storage as an option? That is what I do!
Unless you'll be able to edit the drives firmware to make it compatible with the console. 1TB is the easiest and safest option, as of today.
If you did it, show us how you did it please
@@NICKDIAMOND75 I have not done anything like that. I might damage my old Xbox One by accident.
what if the ssd in the xbox is broken
Well, in our repair shop, we try to restore or fix that SSD. If it's impossible or the process will be too time-consuming, then there's no way to fix that console. We buy them for $50-70 for donor parts. The best option is to just buy a new one. The previous generation of Xbox had a bootloader chip on the motherboard, and you could replace a dead HDD/SSD without any problems. The Series S|X doesn't have that chip. The bootloader is now on the SSD, and that partition is encrypted for a specific console.
after I reassembled everything it turns on and off immediately help ma please
Did you replace the SSD or what happened?
Has someone been banned by doing this upgrade or is it safe enough?
Microsoft is not like a greedy Apple, at least as of today. You can do whatever you want with your console. You actually OWN it.
I watched and used your bypass password tutorial and it failed and I can't find cmd file there ....what to do now
Watch my new updated video for Windows 10 and Windows 11 which explains how to reset PIN, password and how to deal with Microsoft account: ua-cam.com/video/-0crAEE-6hA/v-deo.html
So i cant use a sabrent nvme 4.0 m.2 2230 ssd?
Unfortunately not, unless some can modify its firmware for you.

You are the best
Thank you!
can use SN530 CH 500GB is storage on pc ?
Sure! It will work just as a regular SSD.
Can I use the same method on a 2 terabyte ssd?
Sure, if you find one that will work with the console. As of today, there are no compatible 2TB SSDs off the shelf without firmware modification.
Good day, if anyone can help me that be great.
I have a series S, the internal ssd is no good anymore the console is stuck in a black screen and it wont turn on. is there any way to replace the ssd with a new one and make it work again. thank you
If the SSD dies in a Series S or X console, the best thing you can do is sell it for donor parts and buy a new one. Only Microsoft can fix it. Well, they won't fix your particular one, instead, they'll provide you with another refurbished console for about $250 for Series S and $350 for Series X.
@@ElectronicsComputers thank you very much.

@@AM-bq4jb shit that sucks.... What did you end up doing with the incompatible SSD...
I'm wondering if your first attempt of the update wrote to the boot partition and if you can clone that to the original SSD (assuming you didn't wipe the 2tb drive yet)
Might be able to make the S come back to life like that.
@@akop87 I found out that drive gets re-encrypted after a system update only after reflashing the disk in despair like 40 times 😂 so Im planning on buying the CFE adapter and just plugging it into my series X, maybe I'll fix the series S with broken HDMI traces but this is definitely more likely than paying Microsoft to fix the other series S, I'd rather use it for parts
So, could you use the ssd from the expansion card technically as a donor ssd?
Unfortunately, the SSDs in official expansion cards have interfaces other than the M.2 interface.
Time to buy a 2TB Xbox to swap SSD then return it.
Great idea!
price goes up every two weeks
Have you tried this with the Inland Brand of SSD drives?
yo voy hacer esa prueba con el de 2tb QN446.
@@et121978got any luck with that?
Only use the models that come stock with an Xbox. Any other brand and model will not work out of the box.
This is absolutely ridiculous, why have Microsoft chosen to go this route, why cant you use any 2230 drive? Whats the reasoning
Deberias poner subtitulos en español
Wouldn’t recommend, the console won’t identify the new drive and it won’t turn on with the old one. $200 down the drain.
What SSD model did you use? I've never had any problems upgrading the Series S.
Sounds like you attempted this with an incompatible SSD. You're motherboards encryption likely changed in your attempt.
Try cloning the boot partition from your new incompatible SSD to the original SSD.
That's why he clones the license of the original ssd idiot
Hey how w can we chat?
hey, i have a probelm with my ssd, it makes my xbox turn off instantly, so how can i update the xbox to the latest version? any ideas on how to get around this problem?
@damer3016 If the original SSD is dead, formatted, or the boot partition is corrupted, then that console is not repairable anymore. Well, Microsoft will "fix" it (replace with another refurbished one) for $350.
