Will it start? Abandoned Ferguson TO-35!

  • I found a Ferguson TO-35 loader tractor with a twist, the transmission broke on the owner years back and now I’m gonna take on the project. And, there is yellow paint under the red. Could it have been an industrial?

I noticed the Ford fenders? I spent a lot of my childhood on a Massey FERGUSON 35. We did a lot of work with that tractor that should’ve been done but we made do! Love all Massey’s. Thano

Having an 8-N, an NAA, or Ferguson around for little jobs is a good idea. This one runs and doesn't knock. You're well on your way. Replace that generator with a one wire alternator while you're throwing money at it.

JT, it would be cool to see you do the Ferguson TO-35 in MF red, that would be so cool. Maybe the loader off the TO-35 might work on the MF-165, but I thinking maybe not. You might be better looking for a loader that would fit the 165 and finish the TO-35. It would also be cool to see you paint the "Mr. Lifter"!! LOL!!

I love what you're doing with all these machines. Fixing the new one would be great, maybe putting the loader on the bigger tractor would be a safer unit to use especially if it's that oversized. BUT. I think that amazing forklift is due for some lipstick, even in the commercial yellow, it's factory. That I'd love to see! It's proved its worth and you've said that a few times.... just my thoughts...

Hey JT Nice deal for the M-F 35. I've had my 1959 M-F 50 for 27 years now wouldn't get rid of it for anything; I had to put a shifter fork in mine as well I couldn't get a new one so I had to get a used one. Since I was going to that I went ahead put in new piston rings valve stem seals, & did a valve job on it; Along with a Pertronix electronic ignition in not to mention new tires. seat cushion, & rewired the whole baby along with putting in a rear remote hydraulic switch in. Of course the later Items came after awhile; Oh and a vertical exhaust on as well. If You end up keeping M-F 35 the one thing you'll like about a gasser is how easy they start up during the winter, & those Z134 Continental engines are very reliable. Mine has the M-H-F stamp marks on it as well, & I believe they had them till the early 60's. I did notice your 35 has wheel weights for the loader so it looks like it came with the loader when it was new. Again nice job getting home , & running. GET THAT MAN A BEER🍺🍻!

It’s not a bad little tractor, not the greatest loader tractor in my opinion, due to no power steering, short wheelbase and light in the rear, but it’s yours and you can do whatever you want. I do like your idea about a loader on your little Massey, you already have and know. The design of the old loader is less than ideal and not the most streamlined. Be interesting to see what you find inside the little Massey, I think the hunt for a decent loader tractor continues. Thanks for the Videos, JT. I’m down by Ann Arbor and it was hot in the neighborhood this week. Hopefully the crops are enjoying the weather and occasional rain. Have a Good Weekend.

I thought it sounded like something was rubbing while it was running, but you never know what the microphone is picking up. Gotta split it anyway, so you will find out sooner or later.
That's one generation of tractor that never made sense to me. Ford... Massey... Ferguson...? Retired neighbor had one. Used it to move snow in the winter. Well he passed away and I jump on it to clear the snow for his wife. Bad exhaust leak, and running so rich the three point arm and blade were black. I take back to my place in the spring. Get the exhaust leaks sorted, and the exhaust properly supported with something more than bailing wire. Go to adjust the carburetor and it doesn't respond at all. Crank the fuel screws down... zero difference. Pull the carb to find it didn't have a single jet in it anywhere. I was stunned that it ran as well as it did. Tossed a couple jets in it and took it straight back before I found anything else...

Wow JT brought back some happy memories of the old Grey Ferguson we had on the farm. It ran on petrol and paraffin or TVO as it was called ( Tractor vaporising Oil). You used to start it on petrol, then when engine was warm turn tap over to the tvo tank but leave it running all day as tvo was cheap.
Hope you work the JT magic on this old girl.🇺🇸🇬🇧👍

JT you might check the front axle pivot pin and bushing. I know on the little Fords it tends to be forgotten there is a grease zerk so the pin wears out the bushing. I was called upon to weld the pivot pin bore because it had gotten egg shaped. I used 7014 and some torch heat. Machinist bored it out to original spec and pressed in new bushing. AL B.

JT if it helps you in the future. We cut holes in the end of the forks that way you could use a couple Clevis to hook the chain to. Or if you hook the chain like you had in the video you can put pins in the holes so the chain couldn’t slide off. Plus we would use a 3pt lower pin to bolt to the fork to move tractors around by going under the drawbar up through the hole and pick up on the tractor and move them around. Just some ideas that always made my life easier when I had to move around dead equipment. Love your channel and keep up the great work.

Have seen the end ball of the shift lever worn down and it jumps out of the notches in shift rails. Lift boot. Pull side pin. Remove lever. Reach down with screwdriver. Move all into neutral. Weld a little add on to shift lever. But then if rail is broke. That’s a different story.

If that deal was mine I'd fix it up as cheap as possible hope to sell it on the right side of a profit and go buy a proper loader to fit the 165 or put the money to another better loader tractor project . I've converted loaders to fit different tractors before some were easy some not so. Now the steel and parts costs a fortune to, and that old loaders a pig of a thing on what it fits properly by the looks of it. Take care

The 135 MF were bad for jumping the fork and leaving it in gear. Take the oil filler cap off and you can jump it back with a bar to neutral.

The old Massey Forkuson sure comes in handy even if it's the wrong color.
