- The parts of a compound microscope include:
Base: The U-shaped or horseshoe-shaped foot that supports the microscope's weight
Pillar: Connects the base to the arm
Arm: The curved structure that connects the base to the head and provides support and stability
Stage: The platform where you place the slide
Objective lenses: The lenses closest to the specimen that magnify the image for the first time
Eyepiece: The lens closest to your eye that magnifies the image produced by the objective lens
Rack stop: A mechanism that limits how far up the stage can go to prevent the objective lens from touching the slide
Stage clips: Small clips that hold the slide in place
Coarse focus: A knob that moves the stage up and down to roughly focus the specimen
Fine focus: A knob that makes precise adjustments to focus the image
Mirror: A concave mirror on one side and a plain mirror on the other that focuses light on the stage
Condenser: An optical part of the microscope
