Jokic is having the best season by numbers, and I agree with Shaq. It’s an individual award not a team award, it’s not one players responsibility for how an entire team is doing. What is more valuable, a team to be in 3rd instead of 4th? Or a team to be in 6th instead of 15th?

    • @user-xe5fz6se9j

Jordan basically got looked over time and time again for MVP his first few years in the NBA because his team didn’t win and even during the mid years when they were winning. What that tells me is it isn’t all about numbers. It’s about effecting your teammates production as well due to your presence on the floor.

@@im_kwamz Not trying to shift any goal posts. The MVP award is really meaningless, and is intended to be ambiguous. I am just going off how the award has been historically awarded. Had Steph managed to take that undermanned team to a sixth seed or higher last year, he most likely would have gotten it over Jokic in my opinion.

Jokic has the potential to be the new Tim Duncan, the guy who is incredibly skilled, goes unnoticed but consistently gets it done & is immensely appreciated by basketball heads who don't buy into only the hype. The organisation just has to find a way to build a spurs-like organisation as they did with Duncan, TP & Manu otherwise he'll be out of there. LeBron missed too much time so I would replace him with Morant. I think Joker and Giannis should be top two and then Curry given who they haven't had due to injuries on their team. KD has Harden. Derozan had a stacked starting 5 right now and Embid also missed too much time. Consistency is important not just getting hot for the last month or so. I would put Giannis over Joker given record so both record and numbers count. I put Joker over Curry since you need to be a two way player adding to your how important you are but Curry is having an amazing year with 2nd and 3rd best players out with Klay just coming back which is why they are my top 3. He gets doubled most of the game and is still getting past 27 points. He more important than KD and Demar who don't handle the ball as much.

If you actually understand any of those analytics, you would see that those methods are flawed and can be manipulated. Jokic is manipulating them very well.
Jokic goes fishing for efficient shots, that's why his field goal percentage is high. He run the offense, he can pick great shots for himself and then pass it to the other guy if he doesn't feel like it. That's different from Giannis or Embiid who plays according to their point guard running the show. If the guard made a bad set, it forces Embiid or Giannis to take the tough shot, because they're the best players. And they play like that for a reason, both Giannis and Embiid don't have the skill of a point guard.
Jokic efficiency relies on the Nuggets catering to his style of play, you put for example Chris Paul on that team and Jokic efficiency will drop, because he has to play according to Chris Paul running the team, less assists, his field goal will drop because he'll have to take tougher shots depending on the sets that the other guy run. Jokic is a good player, but he's manipulating analytics.
Last year he averaged 27, this year he averaged 27. Same assist stats, a few more rebounds, not that impactful for a center. Everybody who plays know that if your best players are out, you have to score more points, because you're the best. Jokic didn't do that. He stayed the same, because only that way, can he be efficient.
We see this all the time, good players stepped up when needed.
2020-21, Steph Curry stepped up when both Klay and Durant is out, averaging 32 from his normal 25
2018-19, Chris Paul came back from an injury, so James Harden stepped up, scoring 36 from his normal 29
2021-22, Lebron James have to carry the load due to Anthony David being out and Russel Westbrook being bad, he averaged 30 from his last year 25
Jokic pad his stats in a modern way, he does it discreetly, refusing to take tough shots , refusing to change, you keep your efficiency high but your team suffers, that's modern stat padding.
