Of all the Grand Designs, this has to be my favourite couple and house! 🎉 Well done to the owners + builders.

The contractors are the real heroes here, they really delivered a unique and gratifying home. Wasn't sure how this was going to turn out but those studios alone were worth it. My only real hangup are the bathroom fixture colors, the husband-partner seems a bit spineless; I would've never let those be put in 😅

Absolutely loved it. The best part of this project was the builders they chose. Those guys were above and beyond what you find today. They reminded me of my dad and I and how we worked. You take care of the materials and such we will provide the labor and the odd advice on what you architect may have suggested. My dad and I built 22 homes together in the late 70's and mid 80's and it worked wonderfully. Really enjoyed the contractor section of this video, even though the were fliberdegibitz. Sorry couldn't resist. Kev, I hope this show continues, even after you may retire. Love it to pieces. -Mike

Hi, may I ask a question? How do they insulate a home like this? That is particularly important issue for young people who are still growing. And secondly, does the roof just become a cacophony of noise when it rains? Yes, it’s quite creative and lovely, but does it really work to protect them from the environment as a home also should?

Was so waiting to see their home at night. It’s definitely a warm-welcoming multi- dimensional“ lantern” that encloses the family during their night time existence. Why even wanting to leave for the unsettled chaos out in the street. It’s a great space creating its own soul…

    I LOVE IT !!!
    But then,
with 2 artists who gel so nicely together, how could they go wrong!!
    Just Amazing!
The wall of licorice IS a treat!!
    The high ceilings are worth
    EVERY PENNY!
The mirror finish on the kitchen counter simply requires a handy collection of cutting boards when cooking!
    OR
A GREAT excuse NOT to cook!
    &
    The night views ARE spectacular!
Even the multicolored bathroom is pretty neat!
That dark wall color is a stroke of genius!
    It WORKS!!
    The courtyard-
I don't know what plant seeds are floating around London,
but if I had that here in the States,
(and I have seen a few here)
it turns into a high maintenance feature!
Makes me wonder how it looks now... ?
(They've probably figured out some great way of making it look good - no matter what!)
    Bonus:
If they ever want to celebrate a holiday season via lighting,
    the possibilities are ENDLESS!!

A beautiful home. They have such good taste I must say! The vintage bathroom fittings, I thought weren't gonna work but it's gorgeous too.

A house that will stand the test of time, though it has 21st century sharpness. I think It will age well and appeal forever. How lucky to live in something like this wonderful dwelling.

I imagine the polycarbonate panels have been painted or replaced by now due to UV damage. Those "insulated" polycarbonate panels are not as inexpensive as one might think. Their decision to use the panels was born out of a misguided notion. They believed these panels would save them money, both in labor and material costs. The upfront cost for the panels actually matched traditional wall costs. Then there is the cost of replacing the panels with much more durable materials as they yellow and disintegrate.
Nearly a decade on from seeing this on the telly, I still fail to see where their £600,000 went. After taking to account the roughly £100,000 in extra site works and unexpected expenses, £500,000 was reportedly spent on an industrial shed with a kitchen and a charity shop bath. At the time I remember being convinced they either grossly inflated figures for the program or had been scammed by the trades. Most of the materials are basic building materials meant to be covered up by finish materials. So where did all the money go? The figures simply do not add up. For a couple with self professed building experience they failed miserably on this project.
Did they include a sprawling Mayfair rental home, holidays aboard, and the childrens education in the final build figure? Today this property is more valuable as a vacant plot. Perhpas it has since sold for redeveloped or was converted into a car park.
I understand this build required a lot of hard work and sacrifice from the family. Honestly, despite my reservation, I do hope the family was rewarded for all their efforts.

I find it very odd. Nothing really gels well together, from the outside to the inside to the decor. I'm a bit surprised how naive they were about the mortgage
