love, Love, LOVE! Learned something while watching you with the foil that will help me with my ... um, not as successful as I'd like projects. Not failures. No failure in art, just lessons. Thanks!
Julie - thank you for this demo. I love how you enjoy experimenting and playing with the watercolour. Your smile as you unveil the different paints, pencils and foils on this project was so heart-warming and encouraging. Thank you.
I love how this piece turned out! Now I want to try not only the paints but the gold leafing as well. I live in Asheville so I will stop into the store to see what I can get!
Gold leaf is made by tirelessly beating out and stretching alloy of pure gold with minuscule traces of silver and copper. An alloy about the size of a 10 yen coin becomes the size of one tatami mat with a thickness of 1-1.2/10,000 millimeters, so thin that light seems to penetrate right through it.
I suspect it’s not real gold cos she dust it into bin,if that would be real gold I bet she would take rests and would reuse them somehow in some crafts, anything than simply bin it.There is also Cooper plated paper,in all possible colours ..Buy the way that one also can be not only used in crafts but even eaten,as it contains so little cooper and we need it really in our diet,it’s really more beneficial to eat than gold,so we can use fake gold leaf on foods and all over the place too😉
When I was young I watched my Dad apply gold leaf to signs, he used the static produced by rubbing his brush on his hair to pick up the individual ‘leaves’ of gold.
That is so cool! I just saw a video the other day of ladies preparing metal leaf and placing it in packaging with static and a wooden wand! It was fascinating! I’m afraid I don’t posses that level of finesse... 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for watching!
thanks for the demo. I wonder if using gold dust would be easier or gold granulating paint. I really enjoyed watching the different products and how they add to the painting.
At 8:25, you say, "we're going to punch this up a little bit", and you add a green color from your palette. It's just before the Zoecite. Any chance you know what color that was? Thank you, I always appreciate your videos.
Can anyone tell me which Fine-tec pearlescent gold Julie used? She said she punched a hole in it she used it so often. There are several sets available when I followed the Fine-Tec link and I’m not sure which one to get. Thanks and Happy Painting!
Hey Ernest... well, oil pastels are basically like a partially air dried stick of oil paint. You can blend them with typical oil solvents or just a blending stump. They are very user friendly and a lot of fun! As to which one to choose, it depends on where you are in terms of experience and what you are comfortable spending. I would say if you have some experience under your belt Faber Castell is a great brand, super quality for the price. If you are really serious then look at Sennelier... its what the pros use. Luxurious feel and they have papers, fixatives and all the stuff within their brand that you will ever need! Just go to the search field on our site and enter “oil pastels”... they all pop right up! I hope that this helps! Thanks for your question and thanks for watching? 😁 Julie
Thank you for this awesome video. It addressed exactly what I needed. But, I do have one question. I love granulating colors in my water, my forest, and my earth, but I would like non-granulating colors for sky. How can I find a blue whether it is cerulean or Ultramarine that doesn’t granulate? Am I crazy? Help?! P.S. Julie, you are the best. I look forward to your videos during these stressful times. You bring me peace.
Hello Anne... well, these aren’t sky blues really. But, I really like the AJ Indanthrone Blue or the Schmincke Delft blue. They are not granulating blues and are kind of wonderful because they work so well with so many other colors! I hope that this helps! Thanks for watching! 😊 Julie
Hey Jamie... I agree. I do get people who are concerned with me wasting material... so I don’t know what to do sometimes. It’s against my nature to waste perfectly good “art stuff” but picking little bits off piece by piece is weird too. I try. 🤷🏻♀️😉 Julie
Thanks for a great demo! Do you find you get similar texturing/granulation using i.e. W/N granulating medium as what you got with the Schmincke, or is there a difference in results? Thank you.
Yes, we do! Some items have customs and shipping restrictions that are out of our control. Check with our friendly customer service department if you have questions about a specific item (s). They will be more than happy to help! Thanks for watching! 😊 Julie
Just me but I would not be able to brush that large amount of gold leaf into the trash. Seems so wasteful. I do like the look of it in your demo, though. TYFS
Hey Candy... I agree. I know what you mean. It’s against my nature to waste “art stuff”! I kinda have to run a fine line... getting it done efficiently so it’s not too boring vs wasting a bit. I try... 🤷🏻♀️😉 Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback! We really appreciate it! 😊 Julie
I thought that too about waste but understand efficiency under the camera circumstances. I enjoy your phraseology and smile. Thanks for making these videos.
Thanks Julie. I'm so glad I found this video. I bought several of these products from your store and really didn't know how to use them until now.

When I was young in the 70’s my mom would gold leaf statuary. I was fascinated! Now I’m excited about gold leafing my paintings!
@@juliedavis8957 interesting! Do you have the link, please?
I have been recently thinking of adding foil to some work and now I feel like this is confirmation that it would be cool!
Klimpt did it most spectacularly. You can too.
Wow!❤️
This turned out Absolutely Stunning!😍😍
You are just having way too much FUN - I can’t wait to try!
Thank you so much!🥰
I’m thinking that with modifications this could make some really interesting Christmas Cards. Thanks Julie!
Beautiful !
Always love watching your videos. This longer one is even better! More beautiful artistic creation to absorb! Thanks.
Thanks for showing us how to use these new products.
You are so talented, that is so beautiful 😍!! Now I have to buy them too!!
Thank you, Julie! Good to know about this Schmincke's brand. I'll check it out.
Love your demos!

Hi Julie
What up about oil pastel and what are best brand to buy?

What kind of glasses are you wearing, they are so cool! V v flattering!
Love your “bodacious “ colors!

Instead of trying to pick the leaf off the packaging, I just turn the leaf and tissue upside down and slap it quickly into the glue bed. Works great.

@@vidavis8060 you could cut strips white it's still attached to the backing and the apply.
I’m curious. What did you do with the project when it was done? It was too pretty to toss!
Hey Julie, does Cheap Joe's in Boone still have in-store events even though the workshops are all online now?
Thanks for this. What is the large mixing tray you are using?
It looks like a butcher tray.
Thanks for a great demo! Do you find you get similar texturing/granulation using i.e. W/N granulating medium as what you got with the Schmincke, or is there a difference in results? Thank you.

Cool!
🤩
I like your glasses. I couldnt pull those off
Thanks! You can pull off anything you want! Rock them aviators! Thanks for watching! 😎 Julie
I love the painting but cannot believe you don’t save your gold leaf. Makes me cringe. ☹️

How is it that "2-Minute Art Tips" are actually 18 minutes long? Shouldn't it be an "18-Minute Art Tip"?
