Dear Carlos, I would like to personally thank you for your hard work and follow through. It takes dedication which a lot of people lack now days. I live in Norther California "FROSTY" to say the least. But with proper root staulk "BACON" and now your grafting techniques which i have used and succeeded 75% of the time. so i'm still learning! All Over anxious mistakes i made! I have grafted approx 20 trees so que mas que decirte y darte las gracias Carlos. Thank You. Ur friend Vicente Rodriguez
Thank you so much for these superbly informative videos on grafting. After a lot of book study, I first did citrus grafting attempt at 14 years old (not successful) in Amazonas, but recently did my first successful ever graft of yellow hibiscus scion to red hibiscus bush at 53 years old. After watching your videos, I'm going to graft on to my mango and avocado trees, and follow a 40 year dream. Deus te abencoe!
Thank you. Perfect post grafting video. I had been searching. I failed my first avocado graft. I now tried again. It's been about 6 weeks and it is still looking alive. I am waiting now for pushing new bud growth. I gawk at it every day. Lol I think I see some green tinge of buds. Fingers crossed. Thanks
Your video's are the most instructive I have seen, Thankyou. I live in Australia and have had limited success in grafting avocados for my garden. My main problem is in sourcing good bud wood however your hints have been very helpful. I live in a temperate region with hot summers and cold winters not especially suited for avocados. I gather that the best time to graft would be late winter just before the buds begin to push out.
Raymond Ceccato Yes on the buds. The buds on "movement" are the best. Now I,m just finishing a video, should be ready in a few weeks where I discuss more option in the choice of bud wood, using a single bud to graft. These are suitable for and extended season.
Thanks for the review sir. Many times one watches a how to do video, follows suit, only to experience failure of the operation. It often makes me wonder, whether the operation exhibited in these videos were indeed successful???
I wish I would have re-tied the top like you did at the 5:00 minute mark. The top is beginning to peel back while the rest is fused and pushing growth.
Nice knowing some new techniques on avocado grafting. However, I have a question to ask, what is the best fertilizer for avocado trees to successfully bear fruits? Thank you so much for thr answer.
That is a complicated question. Depending on your soil, location. You need to evaluate what you currently do via a foliar test analysis and from there formulate what the trees need. If you only have one tree at home buy any commercial formulation for avocado and or citrus follow the instructions
Good question! After extensive research i've found success lies in the placement of the tree. All tree must face south due to sunlight because we are so far north. But you must make sure plant is planted against some type of wind breaker to protect from northern wind example existing local treeline or building. Also all young trees need extensive shielding/cover for first 2/3 years during winter. Example thin sheets or make shift green house. Once established no need to cover
I'm here for some advice on planting saplings. I have dug (the digger man did them really) into hard dry soil which had corn growing on it last year and cassava the year before. I have piled in the old sweet corn stems and any other bits of organic material I could find. Will it be good to burn it and then put more fertilizer in (including cow manure and rice husk)? It will be a mix of root stock and grafted trees. 👍
I water them once a week, I have them in a pot still so I only put three tablespoons of fertilizer per pot. I have a California Hass and a Florida Hass tree. I am located in San Antonio, Texas.
I grafted, my seed grown amazing avocado, to a Hass. It is growing slowly. It has been at least 8 months. I am pruning the hass so that some energy goes to my special Avocado.
Great Vicente, I'm glad you are now grafting. Tell me how do you keep avocados alive in North Carolina? Mexicola may be hardier then Bacon. Buena suerte amigo
Daniel, great question. Some times you get bud wood in the wrong time of the year. What I do is try to keep them cool, away from direct sun and do the best you can. Make sure the seedling is healthy and growing.
Birds are not an issue here squirrels are. I trap them, but they win most of the time. My Catalina and Monroe tree qet decimated every year. That is life in our blue planet. The Florida Hass issue could be many things. Do you have other avocados? Where do you live? Could be over watering, too much fertilizer.
It gets hot in San Antonio. If it is a small pot and a lot of foliage there may not be suficient moisture. All depends the type of soil mix. To give you an example here is So. Florida what ever I have in fabric pots I have to water every day. In Plastic every third day if they are small if the tree in large for the pot every two days. I would not worry to much about dropping fruit until you put the tree on the ground. Ask yourself a question: Does this tree looks good? Does it like it here? I
Hi love your channel provides valuable info for us all, keep up the excellent work!!!!. I do have 1 question is there a dwarfing rootstock for Avocado that works with most varieties?.
Hi there iv grafted a scion on a mango seedling i had two mango seedling and did two different graft on it one was venear graft and the other one was clift graft. I did my graft on the 13 December 2017 the clift graft scion became brown but the venear graft is still green how long does it take for the graft to be successful.
Where is a good place to obtain bud or scion material? I have several seedlings that I started from seeds suspended over water. Can I just click something from a tree that is already bearing fruit or maybe a piece from an immature tree at Lowes or Home Depot?
How do you protect your avocados from birds? I had twenty avocados on my newly acquired tree and now I only have ten left due to the birds. Plus my avocados on my Florida Hass avocado tree are getting to be the size of a pea and then they just fall off.
See what is growing around you, ask around, that is the best way to find out what grows around you. Taste the fruit. If you like it ask for a piece of Bud wood. It is really difficult if not impossible to buy avocado bud wood on line.
If the wedge graft did die completely, but the seedling is still alive, is it worth trying to do a single bud graft on the side just below the wedge later on?
+didanhtennis Yes you can and some times I do put two grafts in a seedling to make sure on takes. On you can train the seedling to have several branches you can graft on to get a cocktail tree. I personally not a fan.
I get them from friend in the business or from my own trees. It is hard to buy on line if not imposible. May be next year I'll start selling. Now I don't have the time.
No creo hay varios Miquel's creo que el San Miquel es the origen Hawaiano que no crece bien en la Florida el Miquel es un aguacate local my lindo y limpio
You do this to clone a particular variety you want to reproduce.. Avocados don't come true from seed. This is one way to clone a variety with particular characteristics, such as maturity times, disease resistance, particular flavor etc.
GraftingAvocados when cutting the plant, what do you use to cover the fresh cut.i have cut, and its fine and I have cut and It seems to just keep dieing down the plant
Thank you Carlos,I grafted my avocado(W.I type) 2years ago and today I saw blossums on it,I hope to get fruits in six months.

Hi love your channel provides valuable info for us all, keep up the excellent work!!!!. I do have 1 question is there a dwarfing rootstock for Avocado that works with most varieties?.
Short answer to very complicated question: I don't think So.
The word Avocado comes from a Nahuatl Indian (Aztec) word “ahuácatl” meaning testicle.
What is the spray you used after cutting off the dead wood?

Hi, nice video! Why do you graft branches into a tree? Why not just keep the branches on whatever they were growing before? Thanks.
Where is a good place to obtain bud or scion material? I have several seedlings that I started from seeds suspended over water. Can I just click something from a tree that is already bearing fruit or maybe a piece from an immature tree at Lowes or Home Depot?
