So meaning from a USB it will never work unless you have an Enterprise License..Ive been sitting here almost the whole day trying to Figure it out...BUt if the image is loaded on a DVD drive will it than work?
Wow, no USB stick support to supply an OS and no method to automatically install all drivers when you choose (or not because there is no alternative) to install Windows Server 2016 by yourself. If will NEVER buy another dell server product. This is just ridiculous and costs way to much unnecessary time.
Hey I'm all for using the Dell Lifecycle controller with the Server that I bought But it seems like this video, here in this how to, I need to have an Enterprise license to use the LCC through the iDrac. But what if I don't have the license and I prefer to install Windows Server 2016 manually from the rack?
Servers are such a pain in the arse. Every step is so painful. In saying that, I never had to do anything like this on an HP server, just bung in a USB drive and you're off to the races.
You might do it the same way with your Dell server, the option to install it via LCC is to include all necessary drivers, so you're not bothered to do this after the installation.
Hi Sadarax, while Windows Server 2016 is not qualified on a T420 server, we offer drivers for it, and you can manually install it. You may need to install Chipset and PERC driver manually during the installation. As it is not qualified for this system, you can not use the deployment feature of the LCC. You can find the Windows OS Support Matrix here: dell.to/3bvhZNo While it may be possible to get other Windows Versions running, Dell has not tested those and can not support these options. If you need further help, please contact our support staff on the Dell Community at dell.to/39VFQFi Thank you
Dell changed the way the iDRAC licensing works. Before when you ordered the iDRAC hardware with the server Enterprise License was included. Now the hardware is included free but with "basic" license only. So be careful just checking the "iDRAC" box when ordering servers. I have more than a few now with fairly useless iDRAC's and no budget until next year for the licensing.
i am suffering with the same issue its not showing up my os media in lifecycle controller in direct F11 it shows my USB drive but its not continue the booting some error but DVD is working in F11

Hi Pedro B, this sounds like a more complex issue, could you please contact our Support via the Dell Community Forums on this? You can access the forums here: www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-Servers/ct-p/PowerEdge
Dell EMC Support i already manage to install the OS. If the server has AMD Epyc cpu ( Rome family), one has to disable logic processors option in bios for the install to succeed. This should be somewhere in the the server information. I ve installed HP servers with the same cpu family and didnt had to do any of this.
Hi @user-gf8fw1qe1s, you can use the Virtual Media feature of your iDRAC as described here: ua-cam.com/video/k-ZF-55ylOM/v-deo.html If you need further help, please contact the Dell Support directly at www.dell.com/support/contact Thank you.
