A good example is books, every so often a novel comes out and gets trashed for being terribly written; often the writer receives a spike in sales from people buying the book to find out what all the fuss is about. People forget, because it hasn't been this way in quite a while but you can do thr reverse too! I've started up my own Window Cleaning company recently and getting out advertisement with MY face has been extremely important. I'm the only technician working right now, and it's extremely nice as a consumer to know who's going to show up and where they stand in the company youre hiring. This is a pretty niche case but thought I'd share my experiences. One of the fist moves i made was local advertising on news networks and streaming services. Best decision I've made yet.
Feel like guitar brands are a textbook example of this. There are countless guitar brands that are "better" than Fender and Gibson, but Fender and Gibson have the best word of mouth, real life examples, and publicity that make them the most popular.
@@BrodyGrim well and not specifically with but especially with something like guitars and musicians, it's so closely tied to dreams & fantasies that so many guitar customers would go so far out of their way to get the guitar that they saw someone they admire play.

I don't *need* to engage in trends. I don't *need* to draw for other people. I need to present things I enjoy. I need to present myself consistently. I need to present work I can maintain and present it semi-regularly, even if it isn't brand new and unique. In fact, it's *better* to make inspired work! I don't know how that's what I've come away with, but I'm glad I have. You're awesome for that, even though you probably didn't mean for that to be one of your messages. Hell, maybe I got it all completely back asswards. I'll figure that out in due time, but thank you for giving me something to think about nonetheless. :)

Make things you want to make. I’ve learned in my twenties how much of my time has been spent being performative in most areas of my life, and it doesn’t bring joy like being genuine does. My art most importantly makes me FEEL something and brings joy or other emotions when it’s something I want to make. I feel connected to it and proud of it, and others connect with it as well.
This is the first time I've connected how negative advertising actually works. It's not the people who also hate it; it's the person who likes it who would have never heard of it otherwise. In a world of 8 billion people anything can be successful. It's just a numbers game.

The fact that so many people including many of my teachers and peers, close family friends and coworkers, don’t have the mental energy to remember “no publicity is bad publicity” makes me fearful.

You want to make a good advertising impact! Tell them about potential stuff but don't tell them who you are, in fact go to lengths to hide from your target audience.
You are definitely right about that thing where we give time to disgusting negative mind rake, it's called morbid fascination, an unfortunate human quality, people used to like to go watch a hanging back in the day.
i left twitter earlier this year because i realised all it did was make me angry and sometimes i saw tweets that genuinely ruined my day. one day i woke up, saw a nasty tweet that made me upset and decided it was time to leave. one of the best decisions i've made.

Sometimes though you buy things without ads. I have never seen a Dr Pepper Ad but yet if I see it in a shop I'd buy it over any other fizzy drink but then again that's because its rare & has a unique taste. Without that well generic bland coke or whatever will win due to ads I guess.

You definitely can mention products without naming a brand. Drinks brand, candy brands, cleaning product companies that own products like ..etc. I do my best not to promote by not mentioning the search engine brands or the video streaming companies because people will automatically reference whatever they're familiar most with. Honestly, this video has been popping up on my main UA-cam page 2-3 days now. I read the title a few times and it w/ the thumbnail made me want to check it out though the "advertising" word was a turnoff. Why would I want to expose myself to advertising? Glad I gave it a watch though!

As a kid with an intense interest in the paranormal growing up in America at the time the Blair Witch movie came out, I had never heard of the “legend” before the movie.
I think the notion that the filmmakers spread the myth around before making the movie is itself a myth.
