It helps that Seras still has her soul. Proof of this is that she has a reflection. Despite having all the powers of a vampire, she is a human. Pip volunteering his life allowed him to maintain his own humanity, despite his death. Pip is exactly the sort of man that Alucard respects, even if he doesn't know it at the time. An absolute Chad. Especially for being a Frenchman.
The reason vampires didn't have reflections was because back in the day they used silver for the reflecting part of the mirror. Most modern mirrors don't use silver anymore.
The relationship between these 3 is amazing. Seras and Integra being besties and the only main women in a world of men who can be themselves amongst each other. Alucard and Seras having a relationship beyond human understanding that can only be best described as love, family and mutual emotional security. Alucard being the only person Integra trusts as he, and later Seras(we need more material of Seras and Integra during Alucard’s absence), is the only one who always stayed loyal to her even when he returned and saw how old she became.👍👍👍👍👍🦇🦇
Alucard never had a daughter. Not until Seras Victoria. That's why Alucard's story begins with her transformation. That is when everything changed forever, for both of them.
Hellsing has a reputation as being a silly, over-the-top, ultra-violent thrill-ride... which it most definitely is! But I think it doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the subtlety beneath the surface, I genuinely believe it to be vampire fiction at its apex, a celebration of the genre, that asks some deep questions about the nature of humanity and monsters, all without sacrificing entertainment, its truly special. An excellent video! 👏👏👏
I think the reason so much of the subtlety gets lost is because so much of the story feels like it’s just trying to show you the next cool thing. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it’s kinda hard to reflect on the meaning of humanity in world of monsters when I’m watching a literal mountain of zombies crush two armies at the same time.
You can also call Pip Seras's familiar, explaining another way that his individuality survived in her. He's able to protect her from Zorin's mind attacks, guides her through the fight with the Captain and is able to manifest to assist her as well, in a similar outline to how Alucard summons the Hound of Baskerville. He's a very integral part of Seras because he challenges her without the might of a vampire, or the authority of Integra. He respects her enough and tests her limits, only to find that he could settle down with her because he respected her. Seras is indeed the glue for the series. I agree with all your points. I compare Alucard and Goku in how they are teachers and people that nature those around them, but with the key difference that Alucard had more to gain and growth as a person to be had or regained. Whereas I don't see that in Goku. Probably a weird tangent, but I think it's a decent one to think about. This was well done, well thought out, and well put together.
I've read this before somewhere else I can't remember but essentially the reason why Pip survives within Sara's is because he willing allowed her to drink his blood instead of how Alucard gains his familiars by drinking there blood unwillingly.
@@angelsnyder6381 totally why Alucard's familiars are either under Alucard's own mind control or just an extra supply of ethereal mass to form dogs or something
I kinda like how the OG anime handle’s the vampire priest scene, even if it’s very similar. It seems a bit more friendly than “hey you a virgin? Aight dope”. *BANG* “And BTW this vampire thing is sick, you want in?” It also handled Seras’ initial shock to becoming a vampire much better, as well a lot of her characterization. But, as a trade off, alucard is basically reduced to “badass McImmortalguy” and Integra gets very little time to shine by comparison.

Eh? There's plenty of crazy anime out there. Even during the 90s and early 2000s stuff like Hellsing wasn't normal. I kinda like how people always go "anime was cooler and wild back in the day" and name like 5 shows that were spread out over several years meanwhile everything else is safe and bland like majority of the stuff today. I saw a recentish show that had an alligator man eat a man head first and showed he had another dude already living inside his throat and then spat him out asking "what did the guy in there say?". I also like how you say only on the second attempt. Most series don't even get a second chance. Yeah there's plenty of sequel series and reboots now but way more shows based off of manga and books don't get a round 2. It's actually astronomically rare if you take the whole medium of anime into account.
I wouldn't say that Seras put some extra effort into sustaining Pip's existence. We see that Alucard at level 0 also has people he consumed at his disposal. Sure they don't speak in those scenes, but it's heavily implied that Alucard consuming them dillutes his will which would mean that they still exist within Alucard to some capacity. I think Seras in this regard works the same as Alucard with the only difference being that Alucard has consumed millions and Seras only one.
Not quite Schrodinger explains that blood willingly offered is different then forcibly taken. Pips whole being is preserved in Seras and this actually increases his power compared to Alucards people. They are a shade compared to Pip who basically is her Familiar.
That's not to say Alucard doesn't have "familiars". You gain a familiar when you drink the blood of a human or vampire. The difference is that Seras doesn't dominate Pip but allows him to retain his personality. Alucard dominates all the souls he takes. After Alucard absorbs Schrödinger's soul, the fact that Alucard had so many souls inside of him is why he disappeared and couldn't retain his physical form and he only returns once he destroys all souls except his.
Wow. Alucard is like a monument to eternal self-flagellation. I think he is a lot like Loius from "Interview with the Vampire", but without the power and combat potential. He's eternally welded to his guilt and self-loathing.
This is such a beautifully explained analysis. Definitely opened my eyes to a lot of details and connections I didn't notice/make before. It's one of my most favorite series so it means a lot.
Alucard is the shit even if he is a monster. Also your in depth analysis of Alucard and every other main character in this video is beyond perfect I really enjoyed this video it was very informative.
I am in disbelief.. you portrayed this piece very beautifully and intellectually, i have become fond and jealous of your consciousness and way of thinking
Oh man this is a fantastic video!! Finnaly put into words all of the shit that’s so hard to explain about this series and why it’s so much more than just cool gore
I've noticed many of these things myself as I took my time watching and reflecting on each episode, but some things mentioned still went over my head back then. Easily the best Hellsing analysis video on youtube, I can't believe it only has 100k views, it deserves way more.
Seras and Integra and Alucard remind me of the Rimworld AI storyteller options. Randy 'Andy" Random as Hellsing. Phoebe "Phebs" Chillax as Integra. Cassandra "Cassie" Classic as Seras.
I love how you used Little Light Of Love from The Fifth Element during your outro, cause in OVA 5 Alucard encounters the spirit of his gun The Jackal, which takes appearance of Bruce Willis, who talks about his well known movies (like Die Hard, Armageddon, Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, AND The Fifth Element)😂😋
Somebody, please, explain one thing to me. Alucard hates monsters. Those who gave up and abandoned their humanity. Then why he is so kind to Victoria, who, basically, gave up? She was afraid to die and accepted the being of vampire, just like Alucard back in the day. That might a dumb question, but...I am dumb myself, so...
It's questionable how consensual Alucard turning Seras into a vampire was; being suspiciously manipulative on Alucard's part, who could have dealt with the situation in a way that didn't mortally wound Seras, and him being ambiguous as to what the 2nd option, other than death, Seras could take entailed. So that's point one: she didn't just become a vampire, she became one as the alternative to death and without really knowing what she was getting herself into. The major point, however, is that after becoming a vampire she consistently refuses to feast on anyone's blood, innocent or otherwise. This may unearth Alucard's guilt, or exacerbate whatever guilt was already there, for having either condemned her to the same monster fate he has been living or, in refusing to drink blood and awaken her vampire powers, become his slave. Only when blood is willingly offered to her from Integra's finger - as another sort of blood-pact, not of slavery but of mutual benefit - does she attain that true vampire status, and she got there without stooping to the actions of a monster. It's not being a vampire that makes one a monster, it's the actions one takes, whether they are vampire, human, or machine.
the scene where anderson dies, and gives a speech about alucards crying always stuck with me the series always provoked questions about what it is to be human, or a monster but in that scene it was the primary focus, not secondary to the action
Really majestic video. You voice is perfect for this type of narration, the choices of the tracks were perfect too, which obviously include the choices of the pics. Quick question, do you think that Walter was only jealous of Alucard's immortal life? Because barring his pride as a Vampire Hunter, the only reason fot Walter to do all of this would have been his desire to prove himself superior in a fight. In fact he couldn't have desired the power of Alucard because Walter proved himself to be stronger, so Walter really threw away all of his life for proving that he can beat him huh.. guess that he did it, but he failed to kill Alucard
I think Walter was more skilled than Alucard in combat, and so his jealousy of Alucard's immortality twisted into feeling he was more deserving of it than him; unconfident whether he could equal Alucard as a mortal man, his prime years long gone. He knew he was missing out on what immortality would chiefly provide him with: a forever endurable, youthful body. He and Alucard had fought side by side for decades by this point, and through that time an aging Walter has had to look on as his rival stays the same. I dunno how old Walter is, but it in some ways comes across like a midlife crisis, where he's come to fully realise his mortality and that his body isn't capable of what it once was. He just wants to always be at his absolute best, and immortality gives him that. When he was payed with his pseudo-immortal body, Alucard was the obvious opponent to test himself against, finally answering "would I have all along remained better than this monster, if only we lived on a level playing field".
Not really a fan of the Japanese dub (something if a rarity for me). Hearing a bunch of Brits, Germans, and a Scottish guy speaking Japanese is weird. On another note, Hellsing is surprisingly deep on the character study. Despite all the flair of monster mayham, it's a great character study on people who are in power and what they do with it. Alucard wants a good fight, Integra wants order, Millennium wants violence. It's interesting. Integra Hellsing is probably my favorite female anime character. Her never say die nature is what makes the show for me she's like the end result of what Hollywood tries and falls to do with female characters. There are narrative reasons for why she' the way she is. She's cold because she's the only woman, besides Seras, there, she's the first and only female head of the family, she's also the master of Alucard. So her being a cold hearted "girl boss" is what makes narrative sense. She's supposed to be this way because she has to be.
I love this video, and am sharing it with friends of the show, I will have to disagree on your take with the major to a slight degree. I personally took it away that he hated Alucard, for as you said, sacrificing his humanity, and as he, and Alucard said in the show, it takes a man to kill a monster, the Major just looked at the task of killing Alucard, from another angle, as he already came to the conclusion that "taking his head, like one of the teutonic knights of old?" was doomed to fail. And took it upon his own way to slay the monster without selling or sacrificing his tarnished soul. also from a cultural period perspective, he was a German of the post WW1 era, and held the most utter disdain for 'defeatists' which he views Alucard as, someone who just gave up worthy of nothing but his loathing and contempt.
I just wanna say, thank you so much for touching upon the whole sexuality deal, seras/integras relationship and how so important consent is when they take blood. (Also imagine, what if Integra gives the organization to Seras, ik she said her death would be the end, but still )
You talking about vampire feelings when drinking blood- if anyone here played Shadowrun, drinking blood as a vampire is described there as having an euphoric high almost undescribable
Genuinely curious I'm halfway through right now and I totally understand why you say Sera's is the actual main character. Would you also say that in say Dragon Ball Z Vegeta is more of a main character than Goku? Seeing as how he goes through much more character development and growth than Goku.
I haven't watched Dragon Ball Z so I won't comment on that, but when it comes to Hellsing: I think Seras does actually go through 'more' character development than Alucard does, partly because Alucard is, as we see him in the present, at the final stages of his development (having already gone through a long history that we only see snippets of, such as his defeat at the hands of Van Helsing). However, whether a character goes through more development than others isn't indicative of whether they are the main character. At least in the way I mean it in the video, even if Seras went through less development than Alucard she would still better suit the main character title, because the development she does go through better suits those archetypes.
I would say Gohan is the main character of Z. He is the main focus and has the most character growth. Dragon Ball Z as a whole is about Gohan taking Goku's place as Earth greatest warrior and his unique struggles in doing so.

That's not to say Alucard doesn't have "familiars". You gain a familiar when you drink the blood of a human or vampire. The difference is that Seras doesn't dominate Pip but allows him to retain his personality. Alucard dominates all the souls he takes. After Alucard absorbs Schrödinger's soul, the fact that Alucard had so many souls inside of him is why he disappeared and couldn't retain his physical form and he only returns once he destroys all souls except his.
this analysis is very underrated, this video definitely deserves more views and likes
23:28 integra, integrity... haha
the scene with the Queen was so sweet.... very sweet....
seriously this the best analysis video ive ever seen on hellsing
Alucard is the shit even if he is a monster. Also your in depth analysis of Alucard and every other main character in this video is beyond perfect I really enjoyed this video it was very informative.
That finger scene had made me feel things going when I had first scene it.
Ah someone who sees past the massive amount of bloodshed for the masterpiece this series is. With characters as deep as the night sky
As deep as the night sky. That’s some beautiful shit.
Nice to see a serious Hellsing video focusing on more than just the fights
If alucard can’t stand those who can’t bare being human he would have fucking hate Dio
This was absolutely fantastic. Thank you for your hard work and time sir.
This was such a pleasure to watch. Thank you
Your review its perfection sums up all the words I could never string together. Even the abridged version can't escape all the thing u pointed out.
I've noticed many of these things myself as I took my time watching and reflecting on each episode, but some things mentioned still went over my head back then. Easily the best Hellsing analysis video on youtube, I can't believe it only has 100k views, it deserves way more.
Splendid work, you have a beautiful mind and this Analysis is the best Hellsing analysis that I have Seen so far.You have my sub definetly!
Hands down my favorite anime. And it's funny how I still learned something by watching this video lol. Nice one!
Well done! Fantastic video essay. Looking forward to more of your thoughts!
masterpiece.. working while playing this in the background makes my brain making its own scene..
What an amazing video, a pleasure to watch!!!!!
I loved this anime, but now I love it even more thoroughly, so much hidden context I would have never gotten
I've apparently watched this before, but didn't realize it was an hour long
You deserve way more views and subs. This video was so well done and it was an amazing watch. Have an amazing day!!
This analysis is great. This anime is pretty cool. One of my favorites.
Beautiful.
Ima make you famous.
this guy deserves more subs
Incredible video mate
You have a great taste in music.
Your video has a old school lethal weapon kinda vibe to it I love it!😉
Fantastic breakdown!
Excellent video man
Great analysis
This was so damn good!
Seras and Integra and Alucard remind me of the Rimworld AI storyteller options. Randy 'Andy" Random as Hellsing. Phoebe "Phebs" Chillax as Integra. Cassandra "Cassie" Classic as Seras.
You speak of Hellsing, and have Monster profile picture... sub deserved
Thanks for the analysis
I love how you used Little Light Of Love from The Fifth Element during your outro, cause in OVA 5 Alucard encounters the spirit of his gun The Jackal, which takes appearance of Bruce Willis, who talks about his well known movies (like Die Hard, Armageddon, Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, AND The Fifth Element)😂😋
This video was amazing. Although some parts the music could be slightly lower. Still, great work and very underrated channel.
Awesome video dude, much appreciated
This was wonderful!!
You are underrated
Honestly I would really love to see another series with young Walter and lollicard helping take down the nazis is WW2.
Your one of the most under rated UA-camra
Better love story than twilight
Alucard is like Akaza in a lot of ways except that he wouldn’t want them to become a monster. That said he would still respect Rengoku big tine
Thank you for this vid
phenomenal
This is a great video, and channel, I hope you come back to make more analysis at some point. ❤
No mms wey😭😂😂
I loved the Video
This was a masterpiece
@@Ozunoda wow, what a speed
@@Ozunoda oh, and thanks for the answer
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥video. Happy new year from Vancouver homie
Alucard, Walter and Alexander Anderson is my most favorite characters they are very badass
the scene where anderson dies, and gives a speech about alucards crying always stuck with me
the series always provoked questions about what it is to be human, or a monster but in that scene it was the primary focus, not secondary to the action
@@Ozunoda I agree, good analysis. Walter should be around 60 years old, so a little over a perfect midlife crisis
youtube keeps rerecommending this to me after i've watched it and i will comply
It isn’t weird hearing Germans speak English?
The English dub has only one letdown to me...and that is WELSH YUMIE ..gimme that abridged moonspeak 😂
@@docthefaust4519 Same with fighting games for me. Hearing Street Fighter in Japanese when it's international is just off-putting to me
I love this video, and am sharing it with friends of the show, I will have to disagree on your take with the major to a slight degree.
Every good youtube analysis has Death Note music in the background: confirmed
I just wanna say, thank you so much for touching upon the whole sexuality deal, seras/integras relationship and how so important consent is when they take blood. (Also imagine, what if Integra gives the organization to Seras, ik she said her death would be the end, but still )
Great video :)
You really need more subs
Hellsing is the general that began cowboy Bebop and deserve a rework especially now that the brutal graphics are more tolerable and dicentivized.
51:42 .....Am i a Bad Person?
You talking about vampire feelings when drinking blood- if anyone here played Shadowrun, drinking blood as a vampire is described there as having an euphoric high almost undescribable
I feel like hellsing could get adapted for a movie without any problems. Seriously
No. But sadly they will. Hopefully it doesn't suck. At least the brand should get more atention.
@@OpinionatedMeerkat as long as they don't try to force it to be PG like Morbious and Venom did it should not be too bad.
@@Sharkakaka I don't think they will be able to capture the same feeling with CGI.
Anderson makes the situation exciting..
Bruh The Major Is Kinda Like Symbolically What Jesus' Did On The Cross Where Alucard Are Those That Deserve The Power Thru Their Own Faith In Desire To Be Accurate ©😁
The question for me is what happened after Integra gone it seems she doesnt have a heir, now we have two powerfull true vampire without a master
THERE IS ANOTHER ANIME VAMPIRIC IN NATURE IN A WHOLE DIFFERENT TYPE OF ANIME IS VAMPIRE HUNTER "D" BLOODLUST ALSO THESE ARE GREAT ANIME ALONG WITH ALL THE HELLSING & HELLSING ULTIMATE IF WE COULD ONLY GET MORE LIKE THESE YES! WAHOOO
